NEW Apache in the Mold

2 Attachment(s)
Mark just started a new 50' Apache. The boat will be 54' when completed. Power will be 3 HUGE(and I mean HUGE :) ) Teague EFI blower motors. Congrats Mark on your new project ! Can't wait to see it when its done :drink:

Sweet that thing is going to be a monster wave crusher!:cool-smiley-027:

baywatch 11-13-2007 03:32 PM

sweet!! Keep us posted.

jeff1000man 11-13-2007 03:34 PM

Awesome. You should start the

"making of an Apache" coffee table book.

I'd buy the 1st one.

MegaByte*3 11-13-2007 03:35 PM

The pictures don't do it justice. The boat is huge !!

To borrow a phrase: "love the smell of Kevlar in the morning".

Adding a beak to it to get the extra 4'?:D:D

thisistank 11-13-2007 09:56 PM

Whens it do to be finished? And whats the price tag? 1.5 to 2mil?

TexomaPowerboater 11-14-2007 08:38 AM

Sweet, can't wait to see it finished

Any new building techniques such as foam coring, epoxy, carbon fibre etc. going into the new hull?

Mark told me that 75% of the stringers will be foam. The hull is Kevlar/Carbon Fiber. Mark started using Carbon Fiber in the early 90's. I can't wait to see the hull in person :cool:

Cool! How much weight has he been able to reduce in construction? I think OL saved something like 1500 lbs when they switched to Epoxy? I believe they also didn't need as many stringers because it was so much more rigid, further reducing the weight.

BUT, I'm somewhat old-hat in thinking that if you reduce weight too much you loose ride comfort.

Would be cool to see all the Apaches be light weight just like the one El Indio owns.

Bad azz hull, new technolgy...could have a winner again!?!?!?!

That's not old thinking, that's the laws of physics.

DirtyMoney 11-15-2007 05:08 PM

Ask anyone that's ridden in an epoxy boat the ride is harsh.

Depends on the size from what I've experienced.

I'm sure if Benny stuck around the hulls would have advanced like Cig did over the years.:ernaehrung004:

Boat is a monster, good luck to Mark with the completion. Look forward to seeing pictures of the stages! :cool:

I stopped by to see Mark this evening and he gave me look at the new boat. I am awestruck.

The Kevlar portion is completed and he layed in all the carbon fiber today. Fifty one feet of black carbon fiber, shiny from the resin curing is an f'n incredible sight. There's almost six digits worth of carbon fiber that went in to the mold today. Stringers go in tomorrow. The stringers I saw today are rigid structural foam. Pretty neat stuff. As already mentioned, Mark is using a great deal of high tech materials to build this one. He expects to save a great deal of weight in the process.

An interesting thought occurred to me while driving home; when this boat comes out of the mold each of our Apaches becomes a little bit more valuable. As the new one gets finished, our boats become incrementally more valuable. I am certainly biased on this topic, but as was mentioned in another thread, we can be thankful that he has not been pumping out an inferior product, i.e. Bayliners, for the last ten years and subsequently eroding the value of our boats. This one can only serve to enhance the image and value of the Apache brand. We all benefit from that.

Longer is smoother

The lighter and stiffer the boat, the harsher the ride. That's physics.

The lighter and stiffer the boat, the faster the ride. That's physics too.

More physics: If two boats weigh the same, the longer and thinner one is smoother riding. Smoothness of ride increases by L/sqrt(L).

A dimensionless ratio of smoothness (vertical accelerations in waves):
32' = 5.65
40' = 6.32 = 14% lower vertical accelerations that a 32' boat
50' = 7.07 = 10% lower vertical accelerations than a 40' boat.

I knew all that and barely made it out of high school.:D

My dad use to build cars and he always said that if you make a car to light forit's class you can always add weight to it and the weight will be be where you want it.

In our case it was always as low to the ground as possible.

That is going to be one awesome boat when it's finished but I bet I couldn't even afford to insure it....LOL

That things gonna have a huge gas tank.

Wow, Talk about a canvas to work with.

Its really cool to see a new apache coming out of the mold!!
