81mph?
Not to start a war here, although I am sure I will. But 81mph out of a 36 step hull is no great deal.
I have owned 2 37 Active Thunders,1 step,1 non step. The non step ran a solid 82 with twin hp500carb motors. The step ran 89 with twin hp500 efi's. It is my belief that if you are going to compete in todays offshore world you need to step it up a notch.I am sure that the Apache was a great boat in its day But there are just too many boats out performing them now.And Active Thunder is juat a very small piece of the puzzle. And so you know I have nothing to do with the company at all.I am just a boat head. All of this is just my opinion. |
The Apache 36 is about 1500lbs heavier than the at, plus it was run at lake x ,smooth water and still fresh. I would rather be in the Apache in rough water anyday!!!
|
NOT ME!!!!!!!!!
|
It is obvious that you have never been in an Active Thunder.I have been in both the Apache{not the stepped Apache} and the Active Thunder. The Active Thunder is far more boat. The boat flys level and lands soft. After running from Sunshine Key to Key West in 4-6ft waves along with Cigarettes,Fountains and may other boats with them all flying out of the water and me in my Active Thunder flying level and dry,not to mention passing them. The Active Thunder is far superior!!And the cockpit doesnt need to be covered in vinyl to hide all of the stress cracks.
|
I have driven one
|
Me Too!
|
Ike,
Like i had said before,I am sure that in there day Apache was a fine boat. But the technology has changed in the world. You dont need to build a 9500lbs 36 foot boat to handle rough water conditions. There are now stronger materials and better bottom designs available. And for me,after driving many different boats, the Active Thunder did it for me.I just get a kick out of people who cant let go of the past.So they still ride Cigarettes or Fountains, etc.Because that was what used to be cool.Hell I am still stuck on 80's music,Like Journey. But that dosnt make them the best still. So keep riding your Apache, and all of us Active Thunder people will be in the boats passing people like you. |
I guess all other boats are a piece of **** except for the active. Well I have driven one, I have never been beaten by one,I have looked at the 28ft and the32ft and was not impressed, hell I thought the 28 at last years miami boat show was a 25ft because it looked small. A friend of mine bought a new 28ft and turned it back in because it was a "Massive" piece of ****. I think what has happened is that all of you guys got suckered into buying your overpriced sonic copys that you talk them up so you don't look like an idiot for buying one.Don't believe the hype.
Look at the resale value on the a/t in the mags that are for sale, plus one oso member has had one for sale since the beginning of oso. Also are you saying that cigarette , fountian, apache and others don't have new bottoms, what makes a new bottom?, when someone changes the design like adding steps doesn't that make a new bottom? it's differrent so it's new right?. Just like active's 37 they added a step now they are the **** and everybody else is junk i don't think so! |
I agree, enough is enough already, go to the A/T area and pat yourselves on the back some more.
If A/T is so great on its own merit, why to you feel the need to try and convince us over and over again? Dont try to convert me I am happy with my boats of choice, Cigs and Apaches. Now thats my opinion, we will see how many come back to tell me I am out of line for my thoughts. A REMINDER: I am currently in the Apache thread, not the A/T thread. |
I own an active thunder now and I can appreciate each boat for its strong points me personally I would not own a showroom boat I would either have it factory customized as new or convert an old race boat. but that is how i like to boat. I would not hesitate to leave miami in 10 footers in my thunder any more than i would in a 47 apache with triple 1000"s I would probably prefer the thunder only because I cant afford the repairs and maintainence on a 18,000 lb triple engind v but I am sure alot of guys can. I mean we all know a new vette will spank the pants on a 1958 model but I dont think any one on any owners forum would argue with either sitting in their garage.:D
|
:p
|
Massive Thunder,
Why did you even start this thread on this forum? Todd W (Future owner of AT "MONSOON") |
The self back patting continues:D
|
I found it funny that on a previous thread that,I believe the current owner of Apache, thought it was great that there new 36 step ran 81mph on hp500's.
|
Well lets see what their AT's look like after 300+ hours.
But i am still wondering how you 37AVH guys think that your boats are so fast in the ruff if they don't even float yet!? |
Massive Thunder,
I read that post. I believe the speed mentioned is respectable for that boat. In my opinion this thread shouldn't have started. |
81 mph in a 36' Apache is hauling ass .... why do people insist that top speed in ideal conditions is everything???
|
You're right, 81 is fast for an old, antiquated hull. Fact of the matter is, this post seems to be someone who is just trying to push some buttons. BUT, in all respect, there is no way in hell that a Cigarette 36/38 or Apache 36 could keep up with the 37 AVH in smooth or ROUGH water, can't happen unless the AVH has a mechanical problem. I know all of you are going to say BS, but it's extremely accurate. I have "been there, done that". And if you don't believe me, why is Apache out of business?

Would like to "see" a 37AVH in F-2...Then I will believe.
|
I recall that thread specifically stated Apache was in business producing several models. As for the Apache that made the big boys, I'm a little younger, but I think there is even a book that exists explaining why they no longer are in business, and I don't think it was there poor boat design that did it.
I like that Sonic dig, I always thought that to be the case. I'll put my Fountain crew up against that AT crew for who is the fastest anyday, Drinking beer I mean!:D |
WE A.T. GUYS LIKE CROWN ROYAL (SPECIAL RESERVE) BETTER:p
|
End what, what ya mean, just sippin on my Crown:D
|
Can't we all just get along.....
Ok.......Ok.......I own an Active Thunder. My brother owns an Apache(Ike), my brother in law owns a 31 Sonic, my other brother in law owns a Bayliner cruiser, my friends own, Baja's, Cigarettes, Wellcrafts (Nova's and Scarabs and a 47' Excaliber). Hell some of my friends own Cabin Cruisers. Too each his own. I like my boat and they like theirs. Give it a break!!!!!!!!! ;) :D
|
Now let's get back too the board and all you AT people get off of the RESERVATION!!!!!!:p
|
Yes, It looks like this is done with.
MassiveThunder should go back and edit his 1st post to delete mode and this will be behind us.;) |
Hey EndlessBummer and MassiveBlunder ..... come west young men ... but you better be packin' more than HP500's
|
i see that not everyone (cigarette1) can act in a professional manor (Back4More) and get on with things. i applaud "Back4More" and what he did...too bad more can't act like a gown up! i think the twin 350's would make it even!
(sorry, had to say it) |
:D  :D  :D

hi Bob, these guys are running in the lakes and bays mostly. How many would splash at 1st Performance, grab some ice and 93 octane at the 15th Street fisheries and head over to Bimini for a blast, all on a moments notice? I am not knocking the new boats. Lots are built like brick ****houses. And the AT's are fast, but I've made the passage in 12's and had very few things shake loose, but we were in a 35 mph groove and in an hour and a half we could see the Bahamas. And nothing beats a romp at 70-75mph in 4-5 footers for an hour or less and you're there. I broke my '89 38 Fountain Fever 5 miles out. Cracked it right down the side to the waterline, midships. I went over to Fort Apache the following week and bought INXS, the 41 Apache. Yep, they're old, but they were built for the Atlantic and gulf stream. Boat builders have various business objectives. All 41's and 47's were custom built to a buyers specs. Marks business objective was to give the customer what he wanted..
|
RLT, I thought we would hear from you on this subject. Since we talked last I have been thinking about your top speed on the 41, the mileage you get, not to mention what that bad boy can go through!! I think that stands up to todays standards by far, pretty good for an antique.:p
|
Hey r addiction, remember thats your brother in law with the bayliner not mine. LOL
|
There was a brand new 36 at the FPC Spring Poker run to Key West. Bobby Saccentti was riding with the owner. Boat seemed to handle the rough water great.
I can’t figure these AT guts out, why do they make such a big deal about their boats? Let’s see one win an F2 title then they would have something to talk about. |
Brad, what kind of boat do you have? looks good but the picture is to small. Ike.
|
I think someone on the board told me this awhile back
"BULLET PROOF" ;) |
Ike,
It's a Playboy Edition cigarette wiith 500 EFI's. For a better picture try this link.http://www.gcoffshore.com/gco_files/bomjune.htm |
IF THE AT 37 IS SUCH A GREAT BOAT THAT WILL KICK A 36 CIG IN ANY WATER CONDITIONS, WHY IS'NT ANY ONE RUNNING ONE IN FACTORY 2?---- BECAUSE THE HYPE WOULD BE EXPOSED!
IKE WHAT'S UP? HAVE'NT SEEN YOU IN A LITTLE WHILE. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU DOWN THE INN. TALK TO YOU SOON. REGARDS, B.J.MAHER |
Whats up BJ? This is Ike's brother with the Blue and Purple Active Thunder. Saw you down a Key West for the 2nd Race. Kickin' some ass and takin' names. See ya down the bay. John
|
