Mostly just cruised at 3200 to 3500 RPM and still breaking everything in gently.
Question for everyone: What to you perfer to seal up you fittings in the water lines? Teflon Tape Pipe dope |
I cannot wait to get the new props from Brett at BBlades.
If you run the calculations on different speeds and RPM's above the prop slip is off the charts. According to Brett you need to consider the stock props a 31 pitch and not a 32 pitch. I am also playing around with trim and never went more than two steps above neutral. Brett felt I was still trying to overtrim the drives. We'll see how the new props do. |
It looks like your hard work has paid off.

We have seen 88.1 GPS so far with the stock props. I will be very happy and satisifed when I see 93+ GPS. I need some more break in time on the engines and drives and I need the new props. How is your project coming? |

Typically we use teflon tape for the smaller dia pipe and pipe joint compound for the larger stuff (3/4"and above) and anything gas. Teflon tape is easier and less messy to use for the average joe.
I have always used teflon tape with good results but it has pipe dope in it now. These are 3/4 NPT fittings on the inlet and exit of the sand strainers and they are leaking from both sides. I plan to pull them off and use teflon tape and see how that works before I start cutting the water pickups or trying to reduce water pressure another way. They have those pretty blue fittings. Anyone know a good trick to wrench them without marking the finish? |

http://static.summitracing.com/globa...30402erl_w.jpg i have made 100's of AN lines. my race can and the others i have built all have out fuel systems, nitrous systems, tranny lines etc etc all out of AN stuff. i just redid my hole system with the newer black stuff. i picked up those wrenches a few years bac, ive used them maybe 3 times at most. they are way worse then a basic adjustable wrench the best, and i meen best way to mess with those fittings is to put 1 to 2 wraps of electric tape around them, then put a squeeze on them with a cresent wrench do your thing, then take the tape off. this works best from the 100 things i have tryed. heres my stuff here. not great pics, but just to show that it works http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tures/brad.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ures/brad1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...17-08_2154.jpg |

That exact thought had came to mind and I am real glad to hear it will work. I did not want to invest in tools that I may never use again also. By the way you do some nice work those pictures are awesome. |
I personally would have went the tape method figuring Id never need the wrenches again. But, being Offshoreonly I figured someone would mention those wrenches as the "correct" way to do it.

Not bad, up to 82GPS. Wouldn't mind trying some shorties. My X diminsion is very conservative. Looking for some rough water, it has been like glass both times out. I would like to be able to top the 84 that Powerboat ran the Shogren 35!
Where was the Shogren boat tested at? If it was tested in Washington, NC you will NEVER duplicate those speeds. I have several friends that bought new Fountains that came with a certified test speed sheet and not a one of them came close in the real world. Most were tested with one person, minimal fuel, no gear, with the current. You are right about the flat water. I have seen it rob me of 5 MPH. Keep us posted. |

The boat ran these speeds @ Powerboat test
The boat ran these speeds at Powerboat test in Florida and on our own Chain O Lakes in Northern, IL with 525's.

LKN Thursday April 9, 2009
Folks I will be out tomorrow on LKN with Ed Sherrod trying to work out the last few bugs. If anyone is going to be around come over to the Yacht Club and look us up. We plan to be there at 11am and will be at the docks mainly and when we go out to run the boat we will head to the main channel and toward I-77 causeway. The weatherman says 70+ degrees & SUNNY. |
Ain't tomorrow a work day????? Did you ask Tommie if you could have the day off???? :hitfan:

Jay Thanks for pointing that out my friend!:p |
With the number of hours you have been working lately you deserve a day off. I wished I would have worked for a boss that would work so the employees could have an extra day off. Your a class act Mark--both on and off the water:ernaehrung004:

Attn Dave & Adam
Guess who joined us at the lake yesterday? The one and only Mr. Donzi "Blane Aarup'". His smile said it all when he looked at the interior and we raised the hatch. He complemented you both on an excellent job. Tommie drove down and my local mechanic Ed also joined us all for a nice dinner at the Yacht Club. I finally ran lane off at 10PM last night so I could get home. He was VERY impressed. Thank you Doc |

We actually drilled the pick-up holes first, then installed them to mark the leading edge flush with the bottom of the hull. They were cut at 90 degrees to the pick-up tube, so the 15 degree angle of the transom provides the pick-up angle that measured close to 1/4" on the backside. The angle that the photo was taken looks like they are hanging low. Doc, you need some photos taken from a good profile angle to review.
The 36ol (15*) transom angle is more than most Bajas. In comparison the 33ol is 13 degrees. XT Upon farther inspection by Ed, Blane and myself we all believe that you and Adam but the pickups right where they need to be. If you are standing behind the boat it appears they are hanging down below the bottom of the boat bot they are actually almost flush with the bottom. Here are some pictures I took yesterday. Doc |
Okay all water weaks leaks are GONE.
Problem SOLVED! Attn Dave & Adam I have a message for you from Blane Aarup. Forget the Baja rule of using a maximum of only one inch of tape per fitting!:evilb: We pulled the sand strainers off completely and checked them over 100%. Then we greased all the o-rings and the bottom and top rubber seal on the filters. Then we covered all the threads heavy with tape and ran the boat. Not the smallest leak anywhere. The bilge was DRY! I'm going to send you guys some tape for Christmas!:ernaehrung004: Doc |

Ed climbing back in the engine compartment to do his handy work.
The famous words from Ed yesterday where "Grin Factor". This was his first ride on the boat and he was amazed at how easy we saw 87-88 MPH on flat water. His professionally trained ears actually heard the blowers over the dry exhaust once or twice. I still have not heard them! As Blane said with all that was done to the boat the fact we only had a few minor water leaks is amazing. XT Innovations RULES |
Doc, That boat just keeps getting badder. When are you going to have Clayton give it that total custom look? My work is starting to pick up. When I get out of the woods Clayton is my first stop.

I am really getting excited about being back on the water this year with all the power. Everyone that sees the boat is amazed at the rigging Dave, Adam & Doug did. Just a couple of other small details and we will be ready to just enjoy. Hopefully the new props will be here next week and once I see that "90 MPH" mark I can relax and say "Mission Accomplished"! As for the paint job that is one reason I have not posted the renderings. We still hope to do it but this economy is simply not working with us. Clayton is painting one of his first Sunsations right now and the quality of the work he does is nice. As a matter of fact take a look at the bike I am putting together right now. This started as a Harley factory pearl white paint set and Clayton added PPG "Oh-So-Orange" and trimmed it in silver and put the shadows in. I just took these pictures about an hour ago and there was five people in the shop when I got there that are blown away with the paint work. I gave two of them Clayton's phone number. |

Dock, when we are fitting pipe in the landfill or plumbing up anything. Our motto on pipe tape, cleaner, acetone & glue is "Use it like someone else is payin for it". We also say "if a little do a little good, a lotta do a lotta good".
|
Doc,
Wait until you seen Adam's new shop here in Bucyrus. I will let him post all the details when he is ready for business, but it will be first class all the way. He will specialize in rigging, and stereo installations as always. We will concentrate on the interiors, and Kevin Brown will still do the fiberglass repairs. When we did your 36ol, Adam had to take many jobs home to be machined, and we did not always have the tools we needed. That is about to change very soon. XT:cool: |

Well said and VERY true. Blane and I were busting Dave on the tape because we have nothing else to bust him on. They did a hell of a job. |

Id like to stop down and check on the Sunsation but I'll admit Im a little scared of going down there! |
