Update: October 26, 2009
Well Dock Holiday is spending the winter as a guest of the five star resort in Bucyrus, Ohio known as Checkmate. For those that are not aware Adam Shook is in business with two partners renting the back side of Checkmate doing business as “Saccenti Marine”. Adam is one of the most knowledgeable boat people I have been around and a master rigger (with an “R”). I just saw a complete rigging job he finished on a 36 Pantera with new staggered 525’s and it turned out sweet. I delivered the 36 up to Adam a few weeks ago and he is in full swing with a few projects. First he pulled both engines out and took everything off the transom. He will be installing new IMCO extension boxes with the new IMCO SCX outdrives hanging off them attached to the IMCO transom assemblies with a complete IMCO steering system from the helm back with two rams per outdrive. The goal here is to give the new 825 HP engines all the outdrive they need for reliable operation. The steering is probably over kill but safety is the number one concern. Then we discovered an unanticipated problem with the new custom one piece rear sunpad / triple rear seat combo. IT IS HEAVY! The electric hatch actuator will barely lift it and it’s life span is short at best. Adam is a master distributor for Zeiger Hydraulics who is known for quality hydraulic steering systems but they also make a fully hydraulic heavy duty hatch lift system that will handle the load and do it fast. We knew going into this project that outdrives would be a problem but I was hoping the ones I had would last longer than they did. When we first ran the boat I was on the phone with Mark Boos keeping him updated on the engine performance. I was a little speechless regarding how the boat felt with the new power. He put the correct words in my mouth when he said “It feels LIGHTER doesn’t it”? Well that was exactly how it felt because the weight to power ratio had changed considerably. I had a huge smile on my face until it burst my bubble by adding that I must remember that the outdrives are catching hell. The wife and I have enjoyed many wonderful hours on the 36 and we are excited about the final phase that should give us a rock solid dependable 90+ MPH true deep vee Baja. We are planning three poker runs for next year that we have never done before and look forward to being back on the water again. If you need any serious marine repairs Adam is your guy. He has a beautiful shop set up in the back of Checkmate and he knows his stuff. |

The engines are out and everything is off the transom and the boat is at Kevin Browns getting the holes plugged in the transom where the old steering was mounted. I'll keep you posted |
Don't worry Doc my boat is keeping yours company at Kevin's. I didn't want it to get lonely.

Mine is very minor almost out patient. How long are you in for? |
Little things no one else would notice. It just bugs me.

Well all the parts have now arrived at Saccenti Marine from IMCO.
Adam has been extremely busy with other projects but hopefully he will start bolting on hardware soon and will get the engines back in and all buttoned up. Adam has a really sweet shop and after I saw him convert a 36 Pantera from side x side to full stagger I will say there is nothing that he cannot do. We need some pictures Adam! |

Okay Adam and his crew have recovered from the holidays and the work is continuing. Blane with Donzi was in the office last week and we called Adam. I think he has a way of getting Adam going! LOL Thanks to Greg "Team Baja" we have photo's. The first is the new Helm. We are installing a complete new IMCO steering system front to back with a power steering pump on each motor. I fought steering problems all last season. First thought there was air in the system, then changed the filter, checked the helm and we finally concluded that the inner liner (tube) on one of the hoses was failing and acting like a valve. Nothing worse than running 90 MPH and the steering wheel locks up! |
looks good doc, I am waiting for my motor hope to see it in 4weeks, and then the fab work starts on the saber and most likely the 24ol unless I sale it as is. art

P.S. Have you posted any pictures of the Saber? |

Great thread dock... I've been to Kevin's before to talk about an old boat, I take it you were pleased with Kevins work? I might have a couple of holes to fill in on my 21s transom. I had no idea about Saccenti Marine. Looks like first class work...
|
You won't find any better work than Kevin's. He's the man when it comes to glass and gel.
|
he done some small repairs on my boat and looking at the pictures it looks pretty nice

doc those imco boxes will they raise your x or will it stay the same or what
Adam did a lot of calculations and when all said and done we will be 1-11/16 inch higher overall at the prop shaft. The Baja transom is at a different angle than all other brands. I do not remember that angle off the top of my head. The IMCO boxes are really built for the other angle. They are a neutral box and the SCX lowers only come 2 inch shorter than stock. So the bottom line is while I did not raise the "X" by raising the engines I will end up approximately 1-11/16" higher at the prop shaft. The big question for the expert you are is "CG". You and I have talked about this a lot and you know that my 36 is a lot diffferent than the 33 in that I don't see a difference by just adding people to the back seat. Any predictions on what this setup will do? Doc |

Doc, looks great, are the twins getting a little refresh? You keep going and you will have to design a 100 mph club sticker.
Fred How you been doing buddy? All is good with the twins. We only have 14 hours on them and they have run flawlessly. Adam has pulled the oil pans on both and found why we were having oil leaks and with the help of Mark Boos those issues are resolved and I'm confident we will not have to deal with that again. If these drives do as promised and we don't go backwards with the boxes we have have to push the boost up and see if we can be one of the very few 36's in triple digits. I don't think we will have enough but you never know. Take care Doc |

Do some shopping. I got a really good deal on eBay. I've seen these on some high dollar yachts and they are fantastic. I will not be running the light except when parked at dock when we can enjoy it. |

Doc, Adam is putting a set on my boat now. They aren't as high dollar as yours, but I think they will get the job done. He's also doing some led's. That's your fault for posting the pics of yours. I'll let the wife know were to direct her anger for the money spent towards you.:drink:
