A 2001 502 ecu scan will not show hrs by rpm, only total hours.

I have heard of black motors going 1000 hrs. I would be concerned with the condition of the cast iron exhaust, and at 500 I would at least change the valve springs, but would most likely do full compression and leak down, then have the top end rebuilt.

Have you asked the habits of the previous owners? A friend bought a boat with 600 hrs on the clock, turned out the previous owner had the radio set to only be on with the key in the run position sometimes a boat that is used and maintained properly can look and run better than one with low hrs that sat and was not cared for. Overall condition should be a judge for you.

On a side note my friend is selling his 2001 with full rebuild 500efis that have just this past season on them, 55k

If you can access the spark plugs (center ones will be tight) I would just say keep a eye on compression (good maintenance the guys talk about), and since the injectors are easy to get to on the black motors,, lable them, remove them, and send them out for cleaning this off season. Clogged injector can turn into a $3000 top end rebuild or more on each engine. I think OSO member BUD??? or something like that will clean & flow 8 then ship them back to you for $180? Sending the injectors out for cleaning and flow service is good maintenance anyways
Yep, that would have saved me a rebuild.

The rinda/merc scan tool only shows total hours on the MEFI ecm's( 454/502, 500EFI, 575SCI )...it will break it down on the PCM555's ( 496's and 525's )

The rinda software (laptop) might break down the MEFI's...but I haven't played with that.

I had bought my 25ol from Shogren and I am pretty sure they had the hours per rpm range. I went look for them to verify, but I think I gave them to the guy who bought it.

Either way, minimal maintenance and you should be running close to 70! I am running 64-65 regardless of load w/ labbed 24pb1s. If I would have labbed my 25p M+ I could have prob gained a cpl more but 4 blades feel a LOT better and we love the dance floor!

I had a 98 Formula 353 with 502 gen 5 with almost 900 hrs when I sold it a couple years back and these motors ran strong, burned a quart of oil every 150-200 gallons of fuel, but from what I understood that was expected, otherwise I maintained them and never had a problem. I owned the boat for 10 years and just wanted something else at that point but would have continued to run that power if I would have kept the boat cause leak down and compression came back within specs. at time of sale. It comes down to how the motors were maintained and hard they were ran.

Banks are tough over 10 yrs old. Got a bank in Missouri to pick it up, ran credit, all good but now saying "well if you weren't in TX I could help you more....try Essex". Prob is now he's ran our credit through the gauntlet so dunno. Said anything w/in 10 years is what they will loosen up on. Looking at Sunsations, Baja, Fountains.... 30-35'. But no clue what the banks will do, won't "pre approve" to X dollars, says we just gotta submit what it is. I'm approved but gotta find a boat to submit since the one we were looking at fell through. Doesn't make sense. Not looking to spend 70,80,90k.... Prob 55-65k max. But that in a 10 yr or newer is not as common anymore.
