PARADOX 11-20-2007 09:02 PM

First, I won’t hide. Very few of you know me, so I introduce.
My name is Peter and I seen many boat co’s, marinas, suppliers, etc. come and go. The marine/boat business is very volatile. I think we all know that.
Second. While I do not agree with many comments, and that Fred pulling a disappearing act. Trick have business problems, so I do understand some of the issues and reasons.
Third. I also understand many OSO members and Trick customers frustration.
However. Allow me to summarize a story.
I bought a 26’ boat in 1994. Purchased a merc package direct from merc. (OEM price) with Motorola, Motorola check. Merc sends the motor/drive to the Boat manufacturer. (With my name on it). Boat manufacturer puts it into some one elses boat. (in short .. stealing my package). I wait for the boat. Call Co. no response. (Later I found out, it was IRS issues)
I got mad, like many here on OSO now. I fly to SC. To the boat co…., knock on the owner’s house.
(I am absolutely super pissed but I kept calm) After some serious legal discussions and threats we had a possible solution and options worked out. With the help of Merc. Boat done. Boat co. made good on the purchase. Merc. Made good on the possible fraud by one of their “own”.
At the time I did not know the whole story, but later the truth came out about everything. (Pretty stressful times)
The moral if I may.
Please OSO members… speculate as little as possible. I don’t know Fred at Trick, but I talked to Merc. There is more to the story then in the thread.
While I am not protecting Trick/Fred, it is hard to face reality, as a business takes a dive. Eventually we will all know what happened and why. A little patience OSO please, and less unfounded bashing of each other, even with many out of $’s.
Offhore/Perfomance boating is a class by it self. Not many large Sea Rays around here or flat bottom fishing boats here. We have a passion for this. Let’s keep it that way. Keep a family and friendly minded forum.
Fourth. any one wants or needs to be ammoniums, let them. It’s all of our right. Besides there may be some legal issues at stake. There will be a time when the ID will be available, and provided
Fifth. Let’s try not to dwell on the problem and try to figure out how to help the situation. We all have some good experiences and many business areas, (and connections) so if I may suggest to concentrate some of the energy on problem solving instead, and I do hope that Fred will provide some info. to all of you when the time is appropriate.

Sixth. Smilos, it was nice talking with you this afternoon. ( I’l get back to you) :D

Gino ! was that your boat in Holyday with Smiklos? Nice.
:ernaehrung004:
OK I’m done. I have my own problems with ins. Co and accident to resolve.
Peace.

Beating everyone else's price was probably the biggest part of the downfall. No business can be sustained long by giving away product and trust me that's about what Trick was doing. Thats what the arguments with competitors and manufacturers were about - price levels and discounts.

Why??? It has worked for Wal-Mart and the bodies of their competitors are everywhere.

I think I counted 3 of Trick's competitors on this thread complaining about the prices he charged. and saying that suppliers haven't been paid. The ONLY supplier that I see posting here that got taken was Julie at Throttle UP. The rest of you are just other parts sellers. I know the industry is small, and you probably do know what the deal is, but its like Target going out and saying that Wal-Mart isn't paying their bills (and they DO pay chitty slow as I'm a vendor)

Has anyone kept track of how many OSO members got taken? Because the first tread was deleted, I've lost count.

Hello to all. New memeber here. been following this and the other post.

Just wanted to let everyone know that i was out just over 2k and my Visa has refunded my account.

I would call your cc company just to see what they can do.

dwtinc 11-20-2007 09:19 PM

Be aware that just because the credit card company credits your account immediatly dosen't mean it will stay credited. I was involved with a seller which took my money and I never recieved the product and my card company issued credit and after about a month charged it back. I then had to contact them again and go through another process of proving my point. They in turn charged him back again.

If you charged it on Am Ex, you will have a much better chance of getting your money back than if you used MC or Visa. Am Ex seems to be more on the consumers side than the other 2. I've never had a problem getting credit from them. Its taken months to get it from MC/Visa.

Anyone who has charged anything they bought at Trick and hasn't already contested the charge is kidding themselves, and should be on the phone ASAP.

Hey Nick,

Thanks for thinking about me!

I've stayed out of this and the previous thread because I don't know much either. I'm also assuming that Trick is no longer in business. I've tried to contact them to make sure everything was ok, but the phones have gone unanswered.

Yes, I do have inventory with them and they (were?)are a main distributor of mine for OSO.

At this time, I really don't know what to assume or imagine.

Agreed, Fred is a good guy, but business is business. I've always helped anyone that needed assistance and I only expect the same from other business owners. We all make mistakes, but it's how you handle the solution. I have some very particular and needy customers that I always greet with a smile, do an outstanding job on their boats and have earned their continued business with the results.

I do hope everything works out for Trick and every single customer awaiting their order.

On another note,

Fred,

Please understand why I'm doing this. I'm a smaller company that is very particular about who handles my products. I want the same excellent customer service that I provide to be provided by my distributors/retailers. I expect quick replys and communication with any and all customers.

Therefore; I've asked Jim@Top Notch Performance Marine to come over to OSO and lend a hand. He is a hard worker that stays on top of the game and has spent numerous hours educating himself on my history and product line. Please don't take this hard Fred, but the customers can't wait.

Again, I hope everything works out with you and the family Fred and we will keep you in our prayers.

Donnie
