Those are some crazy stats. I know when we went to Havasu last summer for the 4th everyone was drinking including operators of both large and small boats. Lake patrol/cops everywhere which they knew people were consuming. I think they were waiting for any infraction of the law and they would stop you (especially if they witnessed driver consumption). We traveled all the way up Topock sober and didn't see a patrol one but that was just one day. I heeded the advice of all the Havasu patrols and stayed sober while operating, can't say the same once my feet hit land. Just some thoughts. Cheers to safe boating 2011.

Those ARE crazy! These are the reasons I won't drink while I'm driving the boat and wont ride with drivers that drink more then I think is logical. Just sucks everyone doesn't think this way because I can't control other drivers and have to look out more carefully then ever...

Last year at Lake of the Ozarks between July and Sept: 58% of 330 stops had blood alcohol above .08. THAT IS OVER HALF THE OPERATORS DRUNK.

I have a family. Are the rest of you guys comfortable with these facts?
Your LOTO stat is not even close to being accurate.

Default Beer

The one member that said a couple of beers during the day boating won't hurt anybody.
Ok lets say you have that one or two beers and some kid or sombody is out in the water and you dont see them untill its too late and you run over that kid or an adult and you kill them.
You will forever be playing the what ifs for the rest of your life. Ok your not imparied you passed the sobrity test. Can you really live with your self. One drink! I dont care your impaird END OF STORT. What if you hit a rock and didnt serve in time and killed your family? And you survived! Hows that for that one or two beers?
Even one beer will affect your vision and reaction time.

There are a million things that can and do affect you far worse than a couple beers over the course of a day and you can analyze it all you want. What if you were stone cold sober and hit a rock and killed your family? Why in the world would you put your family in that situation??? you should have stayed home and kept them all wrapped up in a bubble!

There is risk in everything we do in life. Obviously running a boat drunk is bad, but responsibly boating and having a couple of beers is ok for most people. It's the ones that are totally irresponsible that screw it up.

That is a little extreme. There is distinction between responsible boating and being negligent.
