I have to disagree, with the right components and a mild state of tune, it can be done. I just finished three seasons of totally trouble free boating (300+hrs) witk my old Top Gun. 700 hp blower motors, 671's Superchillers and Konrad drives. Nothing but basic maintenance, plugs impellers oil changes every 10 hrs.

That is what I was trying to say..
A 600HP detuned SC motor could be more reliable than a N/A 600HP since it doesn't have to work as hard to produce the same HP. I was thinking our friend was new to powerboats and most likely would be better off staying away from SC motors.
