Very true. I wouldn't expect to find a deal like that again and just because it went for that doesn't mean that this other one is overpriced. If your looking for a 28 apache for around 25-30K your going to be waiting for about five years or so.

They made them both ways.....but the ones with BBC have about a 6" lip infront of the hatch cover from where they moved the firewall/backseat forward to fit the BBC engines....
The pic below shows a 28ss with BBC's in it....but the reason you dont see the lip is that the owner has standoff box's on it and the trannies are inside of it. The boat would have originally come with SBC's from the factory

TP,
If you are wanting to overnight a 28 Cig probably isn't the ticket. I use my cabin for hauling beer, life jackets, and that's about it. That's all I need it for though. A Pantera's cabin is much bigger then the one in my 28. Cattitude has or had one of the nicest 28 Pantera's on here with a single 575 and it is for sale. Sweet rig. As far as Pantera's being a better rough water boat, I'd put the 28 Cig up against anything in that length. There is a reason there is so many of these 70's models around....

I think the reason the made the lip was to accommodate the Borg warner transmission when the merctrans was discontinued. heres mine 454mpi's with merctrans. no lip behind seat. I have to assemble all of the pulleys and and heat exchangers after engines are in the boat.

Do apaches generally go for more than panteras?
I've just entered the 28ft market so I only know of the recent sales.
The apache 28 and a couple pretty nice pantera 28s go for 25K or under is what I've seen that have interested me.

Apache, pantera, and cigarette 28 is what I'm after. Good to hear pantera has a nicer cabin. Love the apache since they're rarer and has such great short lived history and cigarette, well they're a cigarette!

Actually, the panteras are the most $, because they are the newest. When it comes down to the older panteras they're about the equal w/ the same vintage as the others, based on the same condition.

Was your 28 a factory big block boat or were they installed afterword? My 86 has the 6" lip on it and it was a factory big block boat. I think it is a poor design. It makes it very tough to get to the front of the engines, the belts, and water pumps. They could have put it at the back of the hatch and it would have been a whole lot easier to work on.
