38 Top Gun questions.
 

There was a 2006 38 Top Gun in the classifieds recently that I was interested in, but it dropped off yesterday. My question is this: the boat had 600's which seem to be very rare. Approx. how fast should the boat run with that setup and is the additional HP versus 525's worth it? Also, I don't recall seeing any of the TG's with AC or generator.....does Cig ever put them in TG's? Thanks ahead of time for the information.

With that little of difference in hp, I'd go for the 525's purely because 87 octane can be found almost anywhere unlike premium.

There have been some Gun's with Generator and air.

Speedwise low 90's

LOW 90's??? That seems a little high to me. I have a '97 straight hull, heavy gun. I have about 540 HP each side running labbed 26's at about 5350 rpm's. I can see 74 mph on my GPS on a good day. 525's may be a little more and 600's a little more still....but low 90's?? Maybe with a newer hull.

I think low 90's is correct.

Might want to reread the 1st post, it's a 2006, that makes it a newer hull which is about 10 MPH faster than a strait hull power for power. I think it's pretty well documented that the TS hulls run low 80-82 with 500's, 86-87ish with 525s and the 575 boats were bumping 90 if not over with light fuel and the right props.

Wilds boat with 575's running a little more boost than stock hit 92.

You're about on with the strait hull, my 93 would run 76 with 525sc's and dry exhaust and my 97 was mid 80's with 640 HP and stock, non-labbed props. Also you may want to check prop slip, my understanding is the 97's were build with a little higher X than others. I know I had a lot more prop slip on my 97 over the 93. I really wanted to put some 5 blades on it and see how it worked out. I could feel them slip, hook up, slip again....

According to some research Magicfloat was doing to sell a 600/382, the 600's are now rated by Mercury to use 89 octane.....

It's my uncle's boat. Boat does 93mph in perfect conditions...90mph everyday of the week. Biggest difference with the 600s vs. the 525s is the acceleration...its night and day. Let me know if you need any other info on the boat. Boat has not sold as of yet...ad needs to be put back up. Thanks

Thanks for the information! I was under the impression that 600's use 87 octane. I couldn't deal with pulling it out to fill up.
