I will be stripping my bottom and take some cores to prove the way it was built.... kind neat
Interesting, congrats on the new project.

I'd kinda rather have a clean bottom to work with, this has just made a lot of work for me.... but kinda neat. can't prove its any thing but a rigged up 19' and the way 1972's are I can hardly prove even that... this kinda stuff rests more with the owner and fan of cigarette than any thing.. it will not add value with out prominence, dose not make the boat stronger or faster. any info or photos I can collect as I move tho this old boat is for my self, I will only be sharing to try to get a better idea of what this boat was built for. may never know.... that's ok also... I like the boat..

so the other 1972 boats that were sold with no HIN one was red and one was black from the factory? were they both jet drive's or was one or both an out drive...

the first advertising for the 19's only offered an out drive.... so I'd think one of the first two boats be factory rigged out drive...

I'd like to know if cigarette had two molds for the 20 jet and out drive or an insert for a jet boat mold to make it an out drive the normal way of doing things...This may be why the boats were "changed" in the 80's the insert was lost or don was shot and the info on how to use his molds was some what lost, or some one if not don before leaving cig for the last time just re thought it... if this is how it was done the primary mold wold have to be a jet mold as it's larger pick up box can fit an insert to change the style to O/D......

Default she made the mold and sold her babys?

so what happened to the white cigarette 20' that was in the first advertising?

in that first black and wight ad the boat was listed as a 19,7 and offered with an out drive only....

seems to me the boat in the ad had to be built well before any other 19'7 as you must market to sell and the ad ran in 1971...

if the other two 19' boats built built before the hin was added and one was black and the other was red neither can be the boat in the advertising.....

this may explain why my boat was gel coated white with a silver water line over the red gel coat at the factory.....

see I am an art director and do advertising for a living,,, and when you do news paper advertising the only black and wight advertising done today you have to plan on your ad running on a lot of presses you need your ad as light in color as you can get it........ this way you can still read the ad even if the printing runs darker at one press then others.... and if the ad was planed as a black and wight the boat needs to be wight so you can see it.....

now I am not saying I have the boat in the ad... but I have a boat that was wight from the factory that was built before the other two 72 cig's as they were both pulled from a production mold......... there were only 3 built with no hin and two sold and the boat in the ad had to be built in 1971 and was white at least over the red gel coat.. LOL

Having a tough time with mine. Its a 69 28' that was raced production class......That was 1973 (pre-hull #). Brownie is trying to help verify it.... Supposed to be one of 7 made in 69, but we havent verified this yet.

toomuch,

interesting find and a nice project great work . does make sense that the plug would be out there.

this is what we know about the black and yellow cig 19 that member cig19 here owns.

the boat as lived on our lake it's entire life. it left the factory with those colors. the previous owner made no small fact that the boat was purchased fron Don A. off the floor at the NYC boat show the 72 show which at that time was held in the old NY coliseum and would have been dec of 71 for the upcoming 72 model year. the old owner told everyone who would listen about how he shook hands with Don to seal the deal.

HIN's became mandatory on any boat produced after NOV of 1972 for the 1973 model year

this one has no HIN and no handwritten numbers like used at Donzi when Don was there. Mechanics who went to get the boat after the purchase recall how the boat looked like it was a rush job sort of ruff around the edges. Probably rushed to get it ready for the show circuit.

the boat laid in storage for quite some time and had sunk at one time or another. Cig 19 bought it and the boat was restored to original condition with the exception of stainless marine exhaust risers over the old chris craft logs. paint was used instead of gel for maint reasons. and the original motor was gone thru. chris craft 330 hp small block chevy volvo 270 outdrive ( corvette motor)

I am not a motor head but this summer he burnt a valve in the motor and when the heads were removed they found that the valve seats were brass i think . the shop said that they were not salvageble. Later talking to a friend who knows GM smallblocks those heads were only availbale in 1971. so we know the boat was definetly put together sometime in 71.

we are not sure if this is the first one or not, but really just want to know the history of this boat. they are really great little boats . hope that helps

also the bottom of this boat is almost exactly the same as a donzi 18 classic in proportion of course it is bigger but the design is very similar.

24 degree Vee, rounded keel , full length outer strakes and short inner strakes that end short of the transom

I have pics of the project somewhere i see if I can find them.

keep up the great work and keep the info coming ,

That lower right picture is right at the entrance to the TNT canal on 135 street. I lived there all through the 1960'S and 70'S

Hi all. Hoping this thread can pick back up. Getting ready to put TRS rebuilt Outdrive back on my boat. I would love to have people to tap into!! I bought mine this past July, for my birthday, in NJ. Once the Outdrive is dialed in, then comes paint, upholstery and so on. HIN is 099, January of 1978 and has Lucky Strike and Perfect Match on the engine cover. Been wondering about the first owner, if it was first owned by Phil Meshinsky.

A few weeks ago I purchased a 1984 20' Cig. We are in the process of making some updates/changes to it, but look forward to being on LOTO come spring!
