Started stripping the bottom. It has fairing compound from front to back. I will have to paint strip the bottom to keep the factory body work or blue printing. stripping her with a blaster or 60 grit will remove the bondo and the bottom is level where I did'nt have to grind...... I can use the spots of gel coat in the rear aria where the jet pad was that was under the added glass to map the shape and give me the levels to fix the jet driive hole.
But I am starting to think she well need to go all factory. Now that I am seeing under the paint.
she seems to be in a coat of gray mold primer on top of the faring.. is a shiny gray primer this is most likly whats making the paint fall off the bottom...

Talked to Phil at lip-ship as he has seen the producshion mold for the 20' and the running stakes are in the mold. The mold used today has been changed some time in the 80's.
Like any one who works with boat he agrees faring the full bottom was not how the boats were built. And it may be the plug and prototype But can not say as he did not work there and is not looking at the boat.
Fact is this is how u build a prototype not a boat. And you use a prototype to make a mold. And if you don't see a nother boat with wood chine as clear as I am showing I have the mold plug by defalt. Lol

after looking at all the 20's on the site not one seems to have a full inner chine,,,, both jet drive and out drive seem to have the chine stop a foot or two from the transom.... love to see that mold that cigarette has.. if the mold has a full chine that's been filled from the in side of the mold it will seal the deal.... I'd have mom.. that is if there using a 38 year old mold... still its strange..... Phil told me that skater he ran 130mph had wood chine that the builder didn't know where he wanted them yet, some times race boats were put out for testing before the production mold but 20's were not a real race boats and Phil agreed that they were cheep boats to make a quick buck making it in probable at best that is was a race boat.... at that point he even seed maybe it is the plug and it was give to an employ or some thing but who knows....
no question she was a prototype as all the other 3 boats sold in 72 and after have glass chine, making her build date most likely 70 or 71 before the ny 71 boat show where the oso members boat was bought.... I'd think that if some one bought a boat they saw a boat meaning they got hull number 2 seeing as 1 must have been at the show and 3 has a HIN meaning it came after the one bought at the show.. I think they'd be displaying a production boat at a show in gellcoat not paint...
I am just blown away that I have a prototype here.. I do not think it will make my boat faster, stronger or worth more money as I do not sell what I work on ever. but still it tricks me out that I am working on some thing that Don Aronow most likely closely over saw the construction of no mater if it was a race boat for some one or the plug for the 20 and in any case it safe to say the boat was also run by Don Aronow to see if the boats was ready for production as this boat was not pull from a production mold meaning Don Aronow had not made up his mind on the chine position when this boat was first put in the water...... I will check to see if there were any other holes filled on the inside of the hull to see if chine position changes were made other then the removal of the inner chine...
This will change my build plan a little.... I can not sand blast the bottom, I can not 60 grit the bottom. I will have to paint strip and 320 grit.. I can not ultra mod the wind screen like the new 20's, I can build a bolt on new style screen and restore the factory screen, the factory interior will need to be redone think I still will do a modern interior and build some nice stainless brackets to swap seating , the factory hot foot and throttle will be re done and also designed for swaping to newer controls,, the engine vents will stay there will be no blower scoop, I am still cutting the rear seat and putting a piano hinge on it to make a hatch and glassing some stainless angle in there and a latch system. I am still putting a 650hp dart block and blackhawk, payed 3k for the drive got to use it.

well I stripped her with paint remover the bottom paint just fell off side paint did not... there are two kinds of filler on the bottom one is red and below the red fill there is white filler, you can see the white poking thro the red fairing every where.... I do not get the full in side chine at all, why dose it runs to the transom?
the photo is of the striped bottom,,,, the fairing.......
