Bullet rebuild

After taking out my new purchase it's time to make it right. The gembles need replacing. Took off Everything on the out side of the transom last night. One gemble Looks like I can rebuild it the other is still do be determined.

Taking both drives to get opened up and gone through next week. Motors are coming out next week hopefully also. Transome plates will be removed to insure the gembles are done right and going to reseal the transome plates to the transome.

The bilge will be cleaned up. Was painted about 3years ago with the freshing of the motors. The wires and hose's were not neatly done. Just kinda laying around in there randomely mounted. Also going to change out the water pickups. Has the original through hull still on there. Hopefully no more surprise will be found while doing all of this.

Subscribed. Lets see some more "before" pics.

And the surprise found on the drive oil drain plug! Both drives headed to Allan marine in baton rouge. One of the beat and lat TRS people.

carter38 06-24-2012 10:01 PM

That sux! Sorry to see that.

TexomaPowerboater 06-25-2012 05:25 PM

Bummer...........but a pair of 540's pushing a pair of old TRS drives..........probably shouldn't be a big suprise. I'd get you some Konrad's. I saw a pair of konrad trs conversions on craigslist here http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/boa/3035773555.html

caseyh 06-27-2012 12:20 PM

oceanperf 06-27-2012 03:20 PM

If you want to watch something of interest and on topic go to www.mercurymarine.com/.../mercruiser-products/ or Google mercury repower or mercury remanufacture. Kinda cool. Chris.

caseyh 07-01-2012 09:30 PM

Motors are undone ready to come out. Daral Hughes (powerplus marine) pointed and handed me tools for a few hours. He's helping me with this rebuild. Went very well no surprises. Waiting on the hoist to free up to pull them out.

TooTall 07-02-2012 09:58 PM

lots of zip ties !

caseyh 07-02-2012 10:35 PM

Yeah the air tool was in a bad spot.

There is not really any method to the way it's wired up. Very messy in the builge. Will be cleaned up!

caseyh 07-04-2012 04:03 PM

Didn't want to take the hatch off. Flat bar made a great braket to hold it at 90*. http://i902.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/bee3f260.jpg

Good Luck! It will be awesome when you are done.

caseyh 07-09-2012 08:49 PM

Getting the trannys beefed up to match the 540s. This part is new to me. Going with 8 disk and it's being done by zimmer gears in baton rouge.

TexomaPowerboater 07-10-2012 09:13 AM

I 'd be very concerned about those brown streaks coming from transom assembly and bolts........they are an indicatiion of rot.

caseyh 07-10-2012 12:11 PM

Transome assembly's have been take off. No rot was found.

caseyh 07-12-2012 09:41 PM

Earl zimmer called me to day Changing the original trans build we were going to do. Zimmer gears/huber marine is next to my shop. post details when we are down with them.

caseyh 08-12-2012 09:46 PM

Still waiting on the drives and trans. The gear supplier sent a bad lower gear set. It was .125 off on the shaft. Sent another gear and sent a bravo lower gear. Hopefully they will have the right one this week.

The trans are on the work bench now. Getting 11 disk put in them. Same set up as they use for illmor motors.

Been cleaning and getting ready to fill in some holes in the transom. Old style merc-a-those system, speedo tube, and may redo the water pickups. All new wires and Cables for throttles and tans.

caseyh 09-21-2012 03:17 PM

Been busy around here finely back working on the boat. Have decided to scrap just about all of the stuff the owner befor me has done to it! Not sure were to start with his way of putting things together.

carter38 09-21-2012 04:38 PM

At least that way you will know what you have, and make it the way you want.

caseyh 09-23-2012 08:17 PM

It's going 100% to the glass!

Thanks Casey it looks like I have the top 2 pieces might have to make the bottom ones. I have a ram and the pump under the seat and I think I just need the ones that mount to the stringers.
