Had a few unexpected surprises, a few dollars spent doing the same thing twice etc. etc. Right now we are just focused on what it needs to go boating only!! |
I cannot even count how many times I had too pay twice for a better outcome. Was just not happy with the results, like buying a decking board cutting it and needing to get other just to gain the 1/16 of a inch back that you cut off, to fill the cap better to make a better result. At times it can be hard not to just hammer it out and get it done. For some reason those money trees are hard to find. Keep up the great work and keeping us posted, a great read and info for all.

We should have the engines back from Joe at Fast Forward here in a few days!! The new spray bar has turned into quite the project lol
Joe's CNC guy made some cosmetic changes to the first one and it did not fit the block right... CNC guy is cutting a new one now as he is back on Joe's page. :angry-smiley-038: Good news is once the first one is done Joe will have the CNC program saved and will be able to make them in no time!! The new completion date is going to have to be pushed from May 1 to around May 15th now. But as long as it is running be the end of June I can still make the Saint Clair Run!! The 4th of July party in our local mud puddle is a must too!! |
Wait, St. clair? I thought you were in FLA? If you're going to be up this way, I would love to check out your boat. It would help me a little to see what you did.

Ok! Spray Bars are done!! Joe at Fast Forward Performance just finished machining the blocks for them. Now all we have to do is run the oil feed line. If you look at the pictures you can see the -3 fitting in the block where we will pick up an external oil supply to feed the bars!!
Damn that is sexual!! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps47a0153c.jpg Another! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5494cb50.jpg |
Nice :drool1:

Those turned out great.

I have everything back from Fast Forward!! Joe actually brought everything out to my house last week, I have just been really busy with work. I will start assembling the engine here shortly!!
Some of the parts Joe got for me below!! Custom Diamond Pistons http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...psb82d9890.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...psbcef112e.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...pseb619d82.jpg 20.6cc Inverted Dome Pistons!! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1e1aed45.jpg Accumulator Groove. Help stop ring flutter! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps04eb07c8.jpg Double Pin Oilers! These pistons use Heavy Duty Spirol Locks (One lock the size of two normal locks) And we have .205 wall Pins!! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8ab4e028.jpg |
|
Crane Wide Body Gold Rockers! 1.7 Ratio
http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps138acd38.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3d9861bb.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps078a95e4.jpg Clay Smith 6 Valve 140gph Marine Fuel Pumps!! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps29050c84.jpg New Quick Fuel Regulators. 1 for each carb. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps61868753.jpg |
Getting close, should be a outstanding engine.
|
Joe installed all of the bearings and measured all the clearances for me with his dial bore gauge.... All I have to do is give the blocks one more final wash and start assembling! I might check my $100 bore gauge to see how accurate it is to Joe's $1,200 Bore gauge :lolhit:
Rod Clearance http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...psa307806d.jpg Main Bearing Clearance http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps15cb7a53.jpg We did everything to these blocks! Line Hone and trued up all the main caps + Tighten the main cap registers, Square decked the blocks so the piston are all the same exact height in the block, Bored them to 4.530 with torque plates (Bores were held to two ten thousands of an inch!! .0002!!), Checked Lifter Bore Clearance, Taped all the bolt holes... etc etc!! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps561745a7.jpg |
Few more pics of the blocks...
All wrapped up on the cart when Joe dropped them off http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8339f440.jpg On the stands... Try to get them final cleaned tomorrow http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps96ef2971.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps801b5fcb.jpg Here is how Joe machined the blocks for the spray bar stands! http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01437e14.jpg |
Awesome work. Where in Central Florida are you located? Im in Winter Haven and love it, you dont see too many Cigs around here much.
|
Checked my bore gauge against Joe's... Came up with the same bearing clearances!!
Mic the crank journal http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1cb67d7a.jpg Zero the bore gauge in the Mic. This sets the bore gauge to the same size as your crank journal http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps37d2c586.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps42a9546e.jpg Insert the bore gauge in the bearing your checking http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps563d078b.jpg Same measurement Joe had!! .0035 http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7b05b8bc.jpg |
Washed the blocks one last time, blew them dry with air and got them ready for paint.
Painted Blocks http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps70af0592.jpg Put the freeze plugs, galley plugs in and started assembling the short blocks. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...psfd9d5609.jpg Crankshaft Endplay http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...ps649208c7.jpg |
A lot of work but should be well worth it. Like how the lesser priced gauge is just as accurate as the 1200.00 dollar one.

Short blocks are going together smoothly! Should have some pictures in a few days.
I have decided to dyno the engines. We are behind schedule and it will help get us back on track instead of taking time to tune the boat in the water. |
Great looking job .. will follow your project too.
|
:ernaehrung004: good idea!

Joe from Fast Forward came out tonight. We checked everything below on both engines!
Joe Degreed both cams Checked piston to valve clearance with a dial indicator. (Had a mile of clearance!!) Checked Valve radial clearance (Again had a mile of clearance!) Measured Pushrods. Both engines use the same length pushrods but never the less we measured both engines! Checked camshaft position with the lifters Checked Camshaft endplay & Thanks again for all your help with these engines Joe!! Action Pics (Cam Specs we needed were in the book!) http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...psd7b1c1bb.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/...psaa7f50d7.jpg Mr. Fast Forward himself!! WOW shows how rewarding being maticulous can be! Great job your doing
|
Joe scheduled my dyno time in 2 weeks! I have some work to do now!! :lolhit:
