He wants to buy it done right? So what's wrong with buying the boat and paying you for your services now? Lots of people buy boats and contract restorations right away. But you know it all good luck with your business venture.

Not to mention with that power it's only going to run 55 mph with 420's.
|
62-63.....
|
I'll be nice and say 60 .... Been in a bunch ..:lolhit:
|
If they were new, tight 420's, and actually made the HP. TRS were setup perfect and good props. I'd say 61 low on fuel.
Rebarbox's Cafe is nice for the coin and it has been for sale awhile. I think it will sell this spring |

guessing we all came to the same thought. Mine went for we will call it 40k with fresh 540s and paint stripped down to the bare hull and deck.
I also had a prior boat painted with a similar PPG system you speak of. The clear is t hard enought tic will scratch instantly when a fender hits it. Going with " better deal on paint" might as well use the money as kindling and burn it. You need awl grip clear or equal to. Bottom line it isn't worth 60, the clear is wrong, interior your cheap ing out on, you seem a bit over zealous on this build, side not love the a rendering of the paint sceme with what looks to be #6 hanging off the back. |

1. i said the 46 skater im trying to get which lil red told me to have him give me money to buy... was 60 grand... i never said my cafe would pull ANYTHING near 60g LOL 2. the PPG and exalta systems weve used before have worked fine. maybe you got a different mixture not sure what you used. awlgrip is another possibilty. i havent bought the paint yet. 3. where did cheaping out on my interior come from? its fully rebuilt wood/foam and complete custom cockpit with livorsi gauges? 4. yall think im going to sell the boat just stripped? and motors just stripped? not sure with the people posting what they actually have knowledge of doing it themselves and what it takes. SO! ill be happy to post up many many high res photos once its done. and **** ill even take whoever wants out on a ride if they come to the river. until then, keep saying what you want. this boat is just shy of nut and bolt build. i have an engine builder who's built all the motors in the area for the last 35 years. i think the motors will be "tight" like you guys are saying. the drives have ZERO slop and surprised my motor guy to excitement on how tight they were. the stringers and transom are fine. but hey, i know ill catch hate until the boats on the water. so on that note, ill talk to you guys in a month. |

No. My cafe is not destroyed. The mixed emotion skater is destroyed. My boat had old paint and old interior and I got it for a song. My cafe hopefully will be in paint in 2 weeks with the paint drawing I posted most recent

well keep up the hard work

I base my opinions off the Facebook post way back when.... and the fact that I seen some threads about restored jet skis you did and had not to satisfying buyer/buyers.... so lets see what happens... not sure about skimping out though.... I know when I redid my interior there wasn't any wood used.... :)

yes, because a $1000 jetski thats going to get thrown into a truck bed, is different than a 50k boat.

Being that the last 3 of us posting have done these projects time and time again, I'll say that you will shock all of us if this thing sees water in a month.
|
Don't worry J, he's honna show us how it's done for no money ...

Man, you guys are brutal. He's what, a 19 year old kid? Who didn't have pie in the sky get rich quick ideas at that age? He may have a rather tenacious grip on powerboat reality, but he does have ambition, drive and determination, all admirable qualities. In all reality he is probably going to end up taking a pretty good bath over this venture, but its those early experiments and failures that set use up for success as we get older and wiser. If any of you think you knew it all at that age, your currently more delusional than a 19 year old with dreams. Give him advice, tell him straight up something isn't going to work but don't be the class bully that stuffs the new kid in a locker for trying.
|
got to agree on that!
Let's give the runner a chance! |
we have all been in his shoes. I personally have learned a ton of valuable information from some of the older, wiser, more experienced offshore guys on here. ive made a ton of great connections and many many now close friends. the difference is I LISTENED to them and didnt "talk back" to the guys that have been through it. I learned from advice i was given and saw and understood the mistakes other members have told me they made in the past on builds. @ 33 yrs old im not afraid to learn and the bigger more performance projects i move up into im still not afraid to ask the questions i have and listen to the big boys.... key word... listen

His proprietary methods of repair and going to show us all how it's done doesn't get taken too well. Idk maybe I'm just an a$$hole but I call it as it is.

why don't you all just give it a rest and let him prove himself. you can jump all over him if he fails or better yet give him some good advice and encouragement. way too much negativity on these forums. who cares how much hp his truck has or what ball hitch he has. he simply came on here to share his pride and joy with what he thought were like minded people that would a nice cigarette build thread. enjoy the threat for what it is and the pictures that everyone always wants to see. i hope he succeeds and continues on in the marine world, as there are fewer young people in the sport every year. keep up the hard work
|
btw, i've seen way too many older, more seasoned, experienced boaters in my life that really didn't know shxt about boats. age doesn't always give you knowledge and there are some people that will just never get it no matter what
|
appreciate the kind words cig92 and jeff32... to everyone, i never said that i knew it all, but on the repair side of things, i work at one of the most respected boat repair places in the state. im learning from "old and wise" guys. full force, i told you or whoever it was to f off because you guys were blowing up the Facebook page about the difference of normal ply and marine ply and then openly admitted after MANY people told you your wrong, you finally said you went on the argument based on what google told you... maybe it wasnt YOU but whoever it was. i take advice from people knowledgeable. someone who pays a shop to do glass work, and pays a shop for paint, and then motor work. then tell me how im doing it wrong when glass and paint is what i do, i will not take your advice. anyways, like i said, ill let the boat speak for itself and let it put my future shop on the map. not claiming this will be the fastest or even fast for that matter, but it will be one sweet restored cig thats not like every other cig thats been redone, and not going to be asking the sky for it like some boats being sold. But im headed back to the shop today so im outta here.

Theres a cafe in classifieds with external steering , TRS, innovation engines, Stelling headers, for 30k. I'm sure one with 420s, cable steering, will sell for 60k. :helmet:

Cig 92 I hear where you coming from with the lack of younger people invthe sport and get it. All who know the sport know it's cost and it's not a cheap adventure. There are a few problem areas of this Cafe thread.
1. This was bought on a shady deal in which another member posted it fur some help and insight yet instead reviewed nothing period. This young man ended up with it. Money I. Hand yes I understand but as fellow boaters I feel that's just repulsive. 2. He is a bit over zealous and green to what this really will cost and doesn't seem to have the capacity and comprehensiveness to get the realistic amount if capital to what this will cost and what profit margin there really isn't there. 3. Facility he is working in doesn't help the situation. I do not know if he paints in there but it would cause an issue for the Harding , gassing, ect of chemicals hardness epoxies as most know. These are just a few things I see. Am I way off base possibility of course. Do I have a pretty fair idea of it,?id say yes as I did a 3 year resto on an 87 from the bare hull and deck to finish product. I know what it takes and cost for the most part. I did all labor besides paint. Just an observation is all this post was not for against or prodding |
315duramax................what would you charge to replace the full transom in a 36' cigarette w/marine ply?...........and yes, the engines are still in the boat!

Those tires will sandblast it for you and you'll be ready in the fall. You could do your engines that way too. :D And I don't think anyone had a problem with your tow rig. |
