Cafe with custom engines and stellings headers for 26k |
im not playing with stock 454/415's. start going through big boy power and see what it costs. In my 572/750's i dropped a valve seat out of a head and hit 7 pistons at the end of last season. so i was able to save the crank, rods, luckily the block and 1 head... do the math.AND I did the top end of the other motor with all new valvetrain, and new balancers, and new water crossovers on both. and serviced the 5 gallons of drive oil in my speedmasters.
Had a BRAND NEW swim platform custom made to fit my transom. (not as much room as a bravo/trs boat) when you start playing with big boy power and parts they cost a few bucks more than little 400hp stuff. I am fortunite enough to have a extremely talented engine builder. He is VERY reasonable with his prices. and i do ALL of my own rigging. so ask anyone on here thats been through it for what i did this winter i got off cheap @10k carry on boys |
Yea at 10,000 I say you did good... As you know Tim, I do my own work too and still adds up FAST... If done right

" I'm not getting wrapped up in a pissing contest with a bunch of middle aged guys. If you think I'm some illegal business doer comparable to selling drugs than you're ignorant. Ya I'm sure that Ben franklin was probably told there's no such thing as electricity. And that Steve jobs wouldn't make a computer.. Offshore exscursion... I didn't know you owned a boat shop and knew everything about building boats better yet what my margins are. I'm sure paying 3G for powder coating and 10g for a motor rebuild I wouldn't have any margin. Come see what my boat is before you run your mouth or make one more uninformed comment about me or my business ventures and ideas. YOU sir are the problem with current America. And yes, I don't normally say someone is wrong.. But in not sure your education or back round, but the definition of economic profit is creating wealth that was not there in the start. NO actually I do not need to pay myself for hours, anything bigger than my BOTTOM LINE. Is by definition economic profit. Have you ever started a business? Cause I'm pretty sure when you do so, from day one your not paying yourself a salary. We'll actually, you seem like quite the business mogul so maybe you did. So your telling me, should pay myself hourly wiry mowing lawns? And what my income I get every month is more than what I expense for the month.. REALLY ISNT profit?? Their must be magic happening or something because I've been supporting myself since 13 doing so.. so sir, why don't you not bother responding because I'm not sure google will give you an answer to what I just said. Yes sure, call me any time! 315-247-3146 I'm sure when I post pictures they will be JPEG instead of PDF and there for not acceptable to you.
Your so called "Gas Monkey" version of a boat building shop is illegal Your boat shop is NOT the same as what Steve Jobs accomplished..................You are just another hamburger stand trying to compete with Mc D's You have not proved anything with facts You are not making enough Profit/income/paying yourself/whatever you want to call it, there is not enough money to be made on this project to keep yourself in business. |

"Have you ever started a business?"
Ummmm.....:lolhit: At age 15 I started "Kevin's Kustom's" out of my parents garage. At age 17 I moved into a commercial building where I partnered up with a Paint and Body shop that I already had been sub contracting work to. I had vender accounts, connections, etc. But I was still technically illegal tax wise and doing "side work" like yourself. But My business was still closer to being legal then any of yours are. Kevin's Kustoms was a profitable and successful business/side job that I really enjoyed. But I was ready for something different and my friends thought I was crazy for not continuing to grow the business. At age 20 I started a Cornwell Mobile Tool Truck. 100% legal business. 100% on my own (plus the business loan that was near impossible to get). I was one of the top dealers in the country. If your not familiar with mobile tool trucks or franchises here's the scoop. I, the dealer, had to buy the truck, purchase 100k of inventory from Cornwell, and prove there's 25k start up cash in the bank. In turn I get to use the Cornwell name and purchase tools from them at dealer cost. At the time Cornwell Tools was the closest Mobile Tool franchise to being independently self employed. At age 23 I helped my girlfriend Kristy "nevrthrottleback" start her Cornwell Tool Truck. Also one of the top dealers in the country. We loved our tool business's and our customers. But grew tired of northern Michigan weather raining on our weekends off and being 90 and sunny mid week. We also soon realized that having 2 business's (plus investing) and all this money did not matter if we did not have any time to enjoy life. So we came up with a way to have more free time in the summer and sold both business's. We decided to live life debt free and below our means. At age 24 we started Offshore Excursion's high speed boat charter business. Traverse City has millions of tourist visit each summer and our customers loved their experience on the water. But we needed something in the winter and planned on starting a snow plow company. But Kristy had been complaining that we don't travel the country enough and she wants to see the sights. So.... At age 25 we started Gearhead Haulers specializing in vehicle transport. (our current business) After Gearhead Haulers took off we closed Offshore Excursions so we could take the summers off/semi retire. We found more value in TIME than in extra money. I also have been investing, buying and selling for over 10 years now. At age 29 and 30, Kristy and I live our lives debt free. We have been taking the summers off (may 15th thru Oct 15th) for 5 years now. We also vacation most weekends in the winter during our travels whether it be boating in Lake Havasu or skiing in Denver. You can take all my post however you want but all I am trying to do is help you bud. In the long run you will understand. Offshorexcursion Great story of a young person working hard to make a living for themselves. Also going at it the right way. I'm in the process of starting my own construction company. I have been a union carpenter for 12 years and need to do my own thing. I'm 31 and have built a lot of things in 12 years but I always have an open ear to listen to other people that have been there and done that. I enjoy learning new fast, maybe even better ways to do things. As for 315 duramax I hope you are going about everything right because your reputation is what is going to keep you in business. If you have stars in your eyes you will underbid everything, short change things, and it will show. Sometimes closing your mouth, and open your ears might open your eyes to things you may not know. Interested in seeing the out come of this project.

well, considering it looks good, but I can also see its a little dry, making wet sanding suck more, I lay my paint jobs wet to need very little sanding....and as far as pics go, lots of things look great in pics, my boat looks new, its not and its 29 years old in person lol

If the paint is laid down flat it does not matter because I think that is a ugly pattern.
Wow lets paint it white with some big ugly red stripes!! That is the newest best paint job ever in the offshore boating world!!!! |
I'm not trying to put down 315's skills but I don't think that paint fits the boat. Being a classic Cig he should have done the classic "Hockey Stick" stripes on it or just all white canvas for the next owner. If 315 wanted to do red on the boat a classic hockey stick in red with silver and black accents would be sweet!! Not many people buy a classic boat that has been made to look like a new boat. You either want a new boat or you want a vintage boat that looks like a vintage boat.
|
don't agree! look at todays tread ''cafe paint''
old cafe, with today's colors and scheme... it's all and only a matter of personnal opinion. I had hockey type stripes and went with a ''crayola crazy paint '' and was much better for an older boat! But that's only in my opinion, not everyone else of course! |
Not a fan of that paint either, but its not my boat, I love the red/black/silver stripe on my boat, clean and simple....
even all white with a boot stripe aling bottom would have looked real good, less is more unless you go nuts then it can look cool.. |
Problem I have with the Café hull in general, is they are very ''Cockpit forward" by design. Meaning, they just don't have that traditional long nose look. I think this paint scheme will take away from the length of the boat from a visual standpoint. Long horizontal lines help make the boat look longer, like the hockey stripe style stuff.
However, paint is an opinion. Personally, I liked the retro look the boat had before. I would have stuck with that and just refinished/restored it. I am not a big fan of doing a drastic modern paint scheme, then keeping the whole ''420/TRS/Cable steering" thing. I love older boats that get stripped, gutted, repainted with wild paint scheme, but then fitted with a pair of #6 drives and 1000's. Old school paint with old school hardware goes together. Just my opinion. Either way, good to see some work getting done on it. |
totally agree with this....

im partial to old school paint with big power and speedys lol both of my boats are hockey stripe paint
boat is looking good. now custom build a blower hatch, throw some 10:71's on it and some konrad replacements!! |
|
It looks good so far. For those of you that don't like the paint job, well; only one person has to like it. Or maybe two in this case. Regardless, I've seen a LOT worse designs.
At 19, how much retro shlt did any of us consider? |
hah funny to seem the same 4 guys still ****ting on it. if i did a hockey stick with red silver and black i woulda gotten "cool, do what they did 30 years ago" boats not done yet... this is just the paint. im keeping it old school but not redoing what the factory can already do.
|
If the kid had painted hockey sticks on the boat you guys would all be grumbling that the kid has no originality and just copied the old tried and true. The kid is trying to get a start customizing boats. To make a name for himself he needs to put his touch on it. Maybe in the end it will work, maybe it wont, but its a hell of an undertaking for a kid. How many of you were laying down your own paint designs on a cig at that age?

you are pretty strong about your opinion on what this young guy is trying to do and you keep putting him down,I think him trying to update a boat is a lot better than sitting on the couch watching TV or playing on the internet, I dont want to call you out on this but,you keep putting him down on his workmanship ,,but on the other hand you put in the wrong seal on your trailer and somehow its ok?lol I have done that job before and its easy to see the seals are not correct for the spindles,,all you have to do is dry fit them before you install them, measure twice cut once kind of deal, lol not interested in arguing with you so no need for you to reply, carry on putting this guy down.. |

Ok buddy well maybe when you redo your own cigarette YOU can repaint it any damn pattern YOU want but since its HIS boat I`m pretty sure he`ll paint it the way HE likes. |
