Cool thread thanks for the amusement!
|
Is there any blocking under the boat? Or is it just held up by stands? I've never taking a boat off a trailer before so I'm probably wrong in satin that the stands are used to keep it level as the blocking underneath is used as the weight supporters.
|
Wtf do you know ??? You'd prob try to use a lift and ratchet straps... Pictures might exist lol
|
Don't forget I use fenders also.
|
I supported mine at the Keel and midway up, the stands should only be used to keep it level. I used a chain from side to side to keep them (stands)from sliding out while I was working on it.

^ that is the correct way to block a boat. I use an automotive hydraulic lift to get it off the trailer. Takes all of 5 minutes chalked up and on stands. I understand not many have the access to one but I've done it many tines with jacks and blocking takes a bit longer but still done correctly

The sandles tell the whole story need not look any further
|
so? any new pictures? I know it can't change 100% in such a short period of time, but curious to see the progress!
|
25 days to go!?!?!? Right?
|
I'm lucky if my toilet is done in 25 days that would be a miracle and all I need is 1 motor installed , 1 drive lay floor and put seats in. Sounds like a weekend rite??? Never ends up that way. Waiting on parts Other that have your parts ect. Still done see tho getting done on time frame or even close to breaking even if it does sell. This sh1t will nickle and dime your pockets if you use the correct epoxy adhesives hardware and the like.

Damn you guys -beat up on this dude so bad I~m surprised hes still a member

I`m on Lamebook, I seen it, bunch of know it all bullies picking on a young kid trying to do his best... how he didn`t tell all you clowns to go **** yourselves is beyond me. I don`t get the animosity he aint fixing YOUR boat.
|
I get what your saying but he was very cocky even before it got ugly and that shot runs people the wrong way.... Let's face it you and I both know your not gonna restore old cig for a big profit in 60 days in a shop with no heat and sandblasting engines that are assembled ... I am all for having drive we all do.... But do t get all cocky when people who have been there tell you it can't be done.... Especially in a shop with no heat!!!!

Lol then you buy the boat when done??
|
He had unrealistic goals.. wow yeah I`m thinking of writing my congressman about it, maybe the FBI can water board him till he gets his $hit together!!!

My feeling is this azz hole it am be that as it may. We are here to help one another correct? I sed it as that way anyone but when some one is looming for help and info being a new guy we should do what we can for them. Not this goat banger, he goes checks the boat leaves says it junk then goes back the next day and but it. I will not help you like you sell you parts or give you any info that may help as I restored one so extra parts specially machined pieces I made extras of that who knows night need them ect will stay right in my tool box. I've given away many parts just because they needed it. A smile and fellow oso'er on the water far exceeds anything monetary. But for this young sheep sleeper good luck, treat those as you want to be.

boat was supposed to be in paint this weekend but the temp didnt hold and i found a few little things i needed to tweak in the body work where i had to fix a couple cracks. i didnt want to rush it into paint. hopefully in primer tomorrow night or tuesday. then paint mid week. wet sand/buff over the weekend. i dont know about you guys, but all this work that you guys think takes forever really doesn't, i sanded my boat in 2 days, did all the glass work in 1, sanding and filling took 2 days.. stripping the boat takes the most time and i did that over the winter when it was cold in the shop. i just ASKED about if you could sand blast a motor assembled due to i havent done an assembled motor before... i think the only hold up on this boat is that ralph is taking for ever on the interior and wont return my calls. i found a local guy 5 mins away that does kick ass work and understands time frames so im going to use him from now on. and yes, my shop does not have heat yet, but you realize its spring time in NY right...its been 70 for the past month whats your point about no heat? were planning on insulating it and adding heat before the winter if i stay in this building. what do you think this is? alaska? :stooges: when you know what your doing with paint and body and how to do it efficiently it isnt a big task... what will take me the most time will probably be redoing my dash... oh ya and the trailers almost done too :eekdrop:
its really not too hard to not tell these guys to eff off because once the boat is done, on or close to time frame AND my budget, none of them will have anything to say. my budget is right on track and i stand to make a 5 figure pay check easy. my motors checked out 100% in the leak down. along with the vast amount of people who have PM'd me saying keep up the good work and not to worry about the D bags on this site who just jerk each other off when one guy has a problem 7 of their buddies jump on boat with them and end up just running people off. i am trying to make this a first class business down the road. make it my living. i never claimed to know everything but am very knowledgable. i learn quick and make connections. i already have a motor guy on speed dial who lives 2 miles from my shop and another guy who helps out who loves what im doing so much that they stop by just to see how its going. Im at my shop 7 nights a week till 2 am to get this done on time. every business starts somewhere and you would think having a young, educated guy with drive and talent and the bank account and connections to really have a shot at making a mark on the powerboat scene being a one stop shop for anything you want done to your boat, not going to a paint shop, then ship it to a rigging shop then to the motor guy, then fix the trailer while your there, people would be all over it. its just like politics, your not going to make everyone happy, always going to have someone who disagrees, like i said, i felt bad for the guy who missed out on the boat but i feel like this boat was far over his head and when he saw the boat in person he probably would have walked away. but yall have a nice night, i just got back from the shop. hitting the sack, gotta mow clients all day tomorrow then back at it. |
I applaud you kid. Most guys on here couldn't/wouldn't even attempt what your doing. I really hope your enthusiasm and ambition keeps up. You don't have to answer to anyone on here, just remember that when people try to give you a hard time. I chalk up a lot of your attitude to your age and due to how you've been treated on here but seeing your posts on here and Facebook, I think your a good kid with great intentions. If they think your bad, they'd have been in for a rude awakening when I was your age lol.

The fact you "asked"about sandblasting complete engines is enough.... 5 figure paycheck... ? sale yes, profit no...
More power to ya bud, but I wanna see very detailed pics posted of all the repairs and finish to make opinion sway, otherwise this is a slam and dump job... I have done all this before and know what kind of time and money it takes, been there before, hence my opinions.... |
just go for a ride any were and it would be nice not to put the heater on in my truck on the way home......
|
If your doing the boat correctly there is no way you last statement is true for on budget/profit margin. Give it hell keep your receipts to show quality product use and not just a lipstick on a pig job. Have you check the gimbal bearings side pins top pins for play? Transmissions check out? Trim indicator cables good? Are repodercoatibg the gimbals trim tabs? Getting all new hardware ie stainless nuts bolts washers nylocks? Are you using tin wire and gel infused heat shrink? This is where the money adds up. In powder coat hardware and trims indicator hardware I'm at 2800. Side note if you do a new dash with new gauges senders aren't the same those are a kick in the balls also

Phil I applaud your tenacity and drive ,and I like cheering for the underdog...I usually keep my mouth shut on these type of threads But I have to say you're a cocky little prick...I have seen your FB pics of your fiberglass repairs on your jet ski's and paint jobs along with reading your comments on different threads and they leave a Lot To Be Desired...Just because you have worked some hours in a professional boat shop along side Qualified professionals Does Not Make You One...Building & Repairing boats is a Learned and Acquired skill that takes Decades to Master...At 19 years old You Have Not Mastered Paint Prep and Application or Lamination or any other facet in boat building & repair...I'm based in Rhode Island and your weather isn't much different then here and you haven't had 70 degree temps for the last month..I'm a month behind with my outside Awlgrip work and fiberglass work because of the temps along with the rest of the repair yards in the Northeast...There is a huge difference between ambient temp and substrate temps when dealing with catalyzed products and if you don't learn to control the two then it will seriously come back to bite you in the arse ,repair wise and liability wise...Seriously You Need to Lose the Cockiness and All Knowing Attitude and Listen and Learn,,,Their are some great guys on here with an incredible wealth of knowledge that could become Great Assets in Your Endeavor...I have been in the boat building & repair business for almost 30 yrs now ,highly skilled & trained & part of management in very high end yards building multi million dollar yachts and I Still Don't know it all..It's a constant learning experience to stay on top of your game because the products and application are constantly evolving...I have seen more people come and go in this business then stay and the majority of them where like you "Cocky" and just enough experience to be dangerous but not Skilled...Don't be stupid like them ,Learn the Trade and Apprentice with a Highly Skilled yard for at least 10 years,,,concentrate on your strengths and be smart enough to realize that you will never master every aspect of the trade but learn them...I wish you the best of luck and hope you lose the cockiness...

1 old pretty much what I've been saying of the course of my posts, side not where in RI and what do you run
|
I'm not sure what road island has been doing but I'm pretty sure I've seen the thermometer inside my shop...I'm not trying to come across as I know everything, but when I say things like temperature and someone from another state tells me I haven't had those temps, and then tells me with out ever seeing my boat that I'm throwing this boat together it's annoying. Ive been using all US Composite materials, down to my putty knives. All 3M Roloc disks, snap on sanders, Durablock sanding blocks, sata paint guns, need I keep going? And wait... You paid 2800 for powder coat on trim tabs?! That sucks. I just paid 100 for 4 valve covers blasted and coated, got them back next day. 150 for my tabs. LOL like I said... It's all about connections.. And tim... That sucks. Come out this way and we can get you a hell of a lot more for 10g. I'll be sending you photos via FB soon. And back to the jetski ****... All of that was before I worked where I work. And learned the new ways. And things take time... But fixing fiberglass is pretty straight forward and when you do it 8 hours a day 5 days a week, then after hours on your own boat you tend to learn to perfect it very quick.. Those jetskis were thrown together just to get beat up... It's like saying I can't build a car because I threw a go cart together to run around and beat up. But I'm sure it'll keep getting brought up even later after multiple boats get done. "Ya he can't build a boat, did you see what he built when he was 15!!!!!"

Before you support 315duramax
How would you feel if he illegally ran a business that competed with your legal business? Is it ok for him to give advice to other members that is wrong, will cost them to waste money, and is unsafe? Try searching all threads started by 315duramax and read up a little. He feels its ok to illegally haul boats, even if they are over width, with improper equipment, no DOT, no cargo insurance, all while undercutting others who are trying to make a living the legal way. Guess its ok to support him if he sells drugs also? There's a lot more to this kid then just a cocky attitude and this Cig build thread. IF this was just a kid trying to restore his OWN boats, even if he was cocky, that would be one thing. This is a kid that is trying to run multiple side job style illegal business. HE IS THE REASON THAT THE REST OF AMERICA STRUGGLES TO MAKE A LIVING. He undercuts others driving the price down for the real business's. Just like the rest he will go out of business and then the next guy will come in and attempt the same thing. You think he has drive? Drive? Or just Daddy's money? Would the drive still be there without Daddy's funding? 315duramax (Phil?) I honestly hope you can learn from us and eventually become a valuable member to this community. I hope you can find a way to put your connections and funding to good use, along with some real drive and self motivation. I will start to respect you once you become legal. There is a lot more to running a business then what you THINK you have figured out so far. I have NO problem with you making mistakes or asking silly questions. They are good entertainment for OSO and we still WILL help you out, of coarse that is if you become legal. Seems like most of us agree that your current project will NOT make profit. You are not adding up your numbers correctly nor are you paying yourself (which actually needs to be reinvested into the business) enough for you time and work. etc etc etc etc etc. I could go on and on. Good luck and PM me anytime if you want to chat on the phone. I have no problem helping anyone out. What I do have a problem with is sugar coating my thoughts! |
Detailed pics will tell all
|
You donkey banger can't read I see. 2800 wasn't on trim tabs mine are perfect wow dumb and illiterate. Surprised you could find the cigarette forum with out the ability to properly sound and spell it out. The US school system hard at work I see.

Hahahahaha I'm the problem with America? OK. Daddy's money? Sure you can think that. I towed a few boats off uship to pay for trips to visit my gf. Far from "illegal business.. " I'm not getting wrapped up in a pissing contest with a bunch of middle aged guys. If you think I'm some illegal business doer comparable to selling drugs than you're ignorant. Ya I'm sure that Ben franklin was probably told there's no such thing as electricity. And that Steve jobs wouldn't make a computer.. Offshore exscursion... I didn't know you owned a boat shop and knew everything about building boats better yet what my margins are. I'm sure paying 3G for powder coating and 10g for a motor rebuild I wouldn't have any margin. Come see what my boat is before you run your mouth or make one more uninformed comment about me or my business ventures and ideas. YOU sir are the problem with current America. And yes, I don't normally say someone is wrong.. But in not sure your education or back round, but the definition of economic profit is creating wealth that was not there in the start. NO actually I do not need to pay myself for hours, anything bigger than my BOTTOM LINE. Is by definition economic profit. Have you ever started a business? Cause I'm pretty sure when you do so, from day one your not paying yourself a salary. We'll actually, you seem like quite the business mogul so maybe you did. So your telling me, should pay myself hourly wiry mowing lawns? And what my income I get every month is more than what I expense for the month.. REALLY ISNT profit?? Their must be magic happening or something because I've been supporting myself since 13 doing so.. so sir, why don't you not bother responding because I'm not sure google will give you an answer to what I just said. But I'm sure I'll get the "your cocky" and "your wrong" just take the liberal approach, Proove with facts and they just call you racist. Have a good day sir, I have better things to do than get in a pissing contest with a middle aged dude. Yes sure, call me any time! 315-247-3146 I'm sure when I post pictures they will be JPEG instead of PDF and there for not acceptable to you.
|
what is the purchase price of the boat, renovation cost and selling price? we will see what happens, of course I am sure the numbers will be fudged to make you look right, but I know what you paid, I know what it takes to do the job right, and I know old Cafe's are not pulling muvch more then 35,000 AT BEST with small power, and I doubt even that.... if you do all glass work and aint in a week I can gaurantee its not done right.... I dont care what you know and buy, things need to sure properly.... the paint will be shrinking on the new buyer right after you sell it if you can sell it...I am sure the engines will be advertised as new too....
|
Where is the "teaser" pics... if I was doing all this work this fast and bragging I would have tons of pics to show us wrong....lets see the "in progress" pics....or you hiding stuff???
