Rob, did you stick with the XR lower and then SC lower versus the SCX lower for any particular reason?

I did, i stayed with the xr as they were supposedly faster than the scx lower, however they should have given a little more speed and they were very deep, so i went with the sc -2 as it is faster than the SCX, i will check the gears and as long as i am not tearing them up i will stick with it. it really freed the hull up and got me the rpms i needed, but half inch down should bring the bow up more even though i am already turning in.

Kind of what I figured. The SCX lower seems like it has a tendency to be an anchor for straight bottom V's. Too bad really as it seems to be a really strong setup. Be nice if IMCO would make some better gears to go in the SC lower instead of using the Mercury gears. The SCX/SC setup seems to be the ticket for not losing speed.

offshoredrillin 08-29-2016 12:16 PM

I agree, and as long as I dont start tearing up gears i will use them, or if I do ill go scx and have wilson do them

Its going to be repainted over the winter

why the repaint, I love your boat, that paint is classic cigarette style.

Thank you, its just time for something different, the original owner did this and he had his twin step done the same (minor differences)... The deck is now faded and chalky, But I am going to have Richy Rich do a custom job, that will make it look like a newer model and he has some artistic freedom to make it look even better, still going to be orange.. after all it is "The Orange Palace"

Quinlan 08-30-2016 03:16 PM

I lost some speed for sure with the full SCXs. But the dependability - 4th summer now- far out weighs. BUT maybe I need a couple lowers for a nice Speed run this Fall! Hmmmmm

or have them done by wilson and post the results to see if its true or myth, 2k per drive

Quinlan 08-31-2016 06:16 AM

I was thinking that too. Time to pull them this winter and let Imco go thru them just for peace of mind anyway.

BobbyB 09-01-2016 06:43 AM

Rob, I cant wait to drive the crap out of your boat this weekend and spill drinks all over it :lolhit:

offshoredrillin 11-12-2016 06:18 AM

Been a while since i updated, ol girl is at Richy's in Miami. I took it down the week after the hurricane. Richy sent me some pics, i have the whole interior out and at Valentine Upholstery here in Md, i had that brought up after the boat was de-rigged. When Mark at rage redid the gas tanks, he noticed that the boat was put together under a bind from the previous tank job, so that may have contributed to some stress cracking. Richy has some great subs that know boats fixing them in prep for paint. The deck was the worse shape as the gel had become chalky. I'm excited for the progress. Ill update as Richy sends me pics :)

Ill have upload pics later, they aren't loading from my tablet.

LivinVIP 11-12-2016 06:56 AM

Rob,

Hope all is well with you !
Great to hear that you are always improving The Ol Girl
Richy is definitely a great choice ! Are you keeping the original graphic design or going with a new theme ?

Have a Great Weekend,

Victor

Hey Victor! I'm changing it up, more vibrant colors. The old graphics were great and did us well, but Lincoln, the original owner had a ts done the same way so there is a duplicate. Now everything is 100% mine. I picked some graphics that i really liked on a couple of boats and have combined them for a custom design. There wil be some ghosted logos but to me the graphics will be simple and elegant. It has great lines and the should be accentuated not hidden in gaudy graphics, kind of like a beautiful woman wearing too much make up. Base color is still orange though, gotta keep it the orange palace ;)

Also feel free to follow Richy on facebook https://www.facebook.com/RichysCustomPaint/?fref=ts and reach out and tell him Happy Birthday today the 12th :)

LivinVIP 11-12-2016 11:38 AM

Rob,

Thanks for sharing, she is a true beauty !

Every time I see her it brings a tear to my eye of so many good memories. My wife and I met when I had the Tiger, time flies !
Can't wait to see the new makeover !!

All The Best !

Looks good!

Question - What is the purpose of the naca ducts on the fairing? Cockpit ventilation or do they run to the engine room?

exactly right and doing it right isnt cheap... i should be ready for memorial weekend. while its being painted the interior is up here being done by Brandon at Valentine Upholstery, so once the boat comes back it should all bolt together quickly. I also upgraded to a 9 inch garmin touch screen and a gps speedo and all new autometer gauges through Bill at Diamond Performance, all the bolsters and dash panels are being redone as well...

kvogt 03-14-2017 02:12 PM

Can't wait to see it finished.

Sweet! Keep the pics coming. what's your target in water date? Is paint the only thing left?

Are you going to do another Bimini run? Dave and I will load up the Gun and meet you down there this Summer....

shooting for memorial weekend, after its done in paint it goes up to Rage for bottom blueprinting and paint, then back home for interior and new stereo.

frickstyle 03-17-2017 07:39 AM

Wow, going to be a brand new boat! How long do you intend to keep it? Only asking because I think of selling mine versus keeping it "forever". I would convert to fuel injections and Arnesons if I were keeping it, but the amount of money to do that, I should just buy newer technology.

offshoredrillin 03-17-2017 08:44 AM

I bought it in 05, it will be like a new boat but it has a great history. well maintained, race winner etc... Im 53 so not sure how long, if someone comes up with the right amount everything is for sale, but it wouldnt be cheap. the only thing this boat wont have beside a new one is steps... I still have the 20 and am looking at another to have as a party cruise boat.

Looking good Rob! Richy has crazy talent!

offshoredrillin 04-01-2017 07:45 AM

thanks chad, yea he does, there are so many colors he has left, diff shades orange, a little yellow, more blues and some green in there as well. these are all base lines with back taping and such, soon he will start overlaying the other colors and he just bought an 1100 bottle of special flake... so its gonna sparkle too lol

frickstyle 04-01-2017 10:46 AM

You are a brave man. I just had touch up done on my two tone paint job..... Not nice

You must be awesome at docking... Don;t tie up to anyone, that;s how half of my boat got scratched.

Great looking project.
