On dyno close 900 with base tune at 5500 and 28° timing, now to add timing and adjust boost and see where it comes in.

frickstyle 07-09-2015 07:20 AM

Sweet, should pickup some nice power with adjustments. Good base number.

offshoredrillin 07-09-2015 11:30 AM

Thanks, im pretty happy with it, i would like to be at the magical 1k, once we add in timing and adjust the boost it should fall in nicely. I dont want to be on the ragged edge all the time either.

sleev-les 07-13-2015 11:26 AM

Looking at your goodies in the shop makes me want more power lol

offshoredrillin 07-13-2015 08:28 PM

Me too, lol

offshoredrillin 07-14-2015 05:41 PM

Dave got it all dialed in and it idles like a dream, keeping it at 850ish for now till i get them in the boat and see how it likes it, we are at 7lbs boost with a 5.000 pulley. Im thinking it should put me in low 90s and if so I may just do small tweaks and enjoy the reliability. other engine goes on dyno in the next day or so. mefi 3 wont go over 6k rpms so Im going to see where it likes to run at 7lbs and 5600-5800 rpms.

Quinlan 07-15-2015 08:40 AM

Excellent!! I have been tossing around Whipples my self Hmmmmm. Chillers AND stay under my original hatch!

offshoredrillin 07-15-2015 09:03 AM

Exactly, and Daves dyno is a true number, it gets run and tuned dressed as it would be in the boat, with all pumps attached and cmi Etops, so my 850 tune is really 850, if you decide to do it pm me and ill give you the ins and outs of ordering and what the kits come with. Also this is on pump 93 and we never set off a knock sensor, as i mentioned above I'm going to see how the boat likes it and how it runs, im starting out with stock 30 props and will need to tune it and get used to it. I talked with a buddy that has the same engine and i know i can go up to 9lbs and still be safe, but if it is only going to affect a number on the top end no sense going for that, Im sure a tiger at 90+ will be fun enough and have the reliability.

sleev-les 07-15-2015 10:19 AM

IN for a ridealong lol

I am so excited for you I can't wait! As you and I have talked about the X dimension can definitely effect those numbers. I was really hoping to see 100mph. but I am right 94-96 depending on seas and load. I started at 91mph put with playing with props and the X dimension I picked up a few. The boat will be the most fun from 50-85mph. Ok now I want to go for a ride:drool1:

Thanks Frank, im excited as well. I have plenty left, but like we talked about I'm going to see how the boat reacts. Ive never been one to try to get the top speed number. I think im going to get the sc lowers over the winter and use the rest of this summer to test and take notes.

Looks great Rob, you got some great numbers on the dyno, I just wish I had that much room in my bilge, mine are going in this week, that's if I can get Blue Thunders butt in gear...lol, really, he's the one that's been pushing me, to get mine done... just curious what sparkplugs are you running in your motors...

offshoredrillin 08-01-2015 09:47 PM

Dave has always preached ngk so thats what i do. They have been life savers for me with maintaining it, im so busy at my shop that my time is basically zero. Any time anything needs to be addressed dave and his crew always seem to make it right in a reasonable time. That being said being in the auto industry myself i try hard not to be the customer i cant stand... the old saying says cant rush quality.

scarabman 08-02-2015 06:05 AM

Is that a Whipple Stage secret X upgrade with an electric box fan to force feed the superchargers? Swweeettt!

Looks good!

offshoredrillin 08-02-2015 06:32 AM

The leaf blower was broken, lol.... its been africa hot and humid and dave and tom have been in that bilge, no wonder they are skinny. We also ran into the "might as wells" i have to have another survey for insurance and all the hoses got replaced too. Many of the bilge pump hoses and intake hoses were dated 1999 when the boat was built for the calender year 2000. While i was down looking in tom showed me the date codes and everything was replaced. I would hate to have everything on the bottom of the bay for a few hundred dollars of new hose and labor. MDG has always taken the smart approach which i belive is one of the reasons this boat has been so much fun, hard to believe ive owned it for 10 years now. But after seeing all the rerig and new hoses it give me piece of mind knowing that attention to detail will stop the nagging "what ifs?"... also when drilling the transom for the new pickups and dumps for the intercooler the holesaw brought out solid clean wood, so the 15 year old transom is in perfect shape.

Biggus 08-02-2015 07:23 PM

Wow, really looking nice! MDG rocks!

I'll be there around 10 or so. Maybe earlier if I wake my azz up haha.. Also hoping I'm imagining things with the motor I just had the top end redone on. I was hearing a faint sound when flushing the motors (cant hear anything while running or hatch down) wasnt a tick, but would last for a split second then stop. Would happen at random times... Of course Im worried now, but nothing looks to be running bad or not as it should.. def crazy haha

Panther 08-05-2015 08:47 AM

Really happy for you Rob! Can't wait to see it in person and run together!

Hoping its only that easy. Going to check around the manifolds and see if a bolt is loose or anything is going through..

I just want to really see Robs boat run haha :).... I love the Tigers and his upgrades are badazz

sleev-les 08-06-2015 08:51 AM

Rob, was just talking to Dave about the noise coming out of my boat and he was telling me how badazz yours is.. That got us on the topic of potential 600's in mine as the jealousy set in lololol

offshoredrillin 08-07-2015 06:12 AM

Well he is the guy to do it. I read on here and see so many guys getting jacked up by shops that are over promising and under delivering. Dave is 100% the opposite, very real with expectations and is just as happy as the owner when it exceeds it. Its a great business model. So many hidden details in a redo like this, when you think of money just upgrading from 1/2 inch to 5/8s inch fuel line that whipple says i need it over 500 dollars per engine for the good fittings and steel braided hose. Also the timeline for getting things done, you really need to have as many parts their in the beginning, or you can lose weeks waiting on shipping. We talked about it yesterday, to do something like this in march when a midatlantic marina is slow, you have to have everything ordered by nov, dec at the latest.

I think people forget it is like building a one off custome hot rod. There are never 2 a like. Lots of R&D. It's a labor of love for sure!

Nice to meet you yesterday, Rob.... The Tiger is badazz. Hope you got everything set and get on the water next weekend.....

What's up?

offshoredrillin 08-27-2015 07:22 AM

Insurance just got bound yesterday after survey, im hoping to get out this weekend, but so busy at work . i still have to put the fenders and wheels back on the trailer but am at work from 7 am till 9 pm

frickstyle 08-27-2015 07:55 AM

Did you do something with agreed value or market value?

If you want to get your boat appraised and insured on agreed value (above market value if even possible), who do you use, a surveyor or an insurance agent (or an independent appraiser?) to get the $$ value.

offshoredrillin 08-27-2015 08:02 AM

I had it insured based upon the old appraised value of 127k, with the upgrades it came in at appraised value of 130k market value and that's what i did it at. The insurance company wanted it, but I also wanted it to have it in writing the actual upgrades and noted the actual parts with serial numbers and such. Use a sams surveyor as they take pics and have the survey in a way that the insurance company likes to see including pics.

frickstyle 08-27-2015 10:46 AM

Awesome info, thanks. I have mine insured at a certain amount, which I think was fair by just requesting the amount and sending in a few pictures myself, BUT, I would feel much more comfortable if I could increase that value 30% minimum.

I know it will never be insured for the amount I have into it, or even the addition of parts, but getting that number as high as you can makes me a little more comfortable.

mmb 08-27-2015 11:21 AM

My insurance made me get a survey and the surveyor said my boat was worth about 40K more than we paid for it. The higher number was also the number the insurance agreed on. I might have kept telling the surveyor what I thought it should be worth also lol
