switch panel I am working on solution, had him label and paint then found out I can’t find older style switches in white, the other switches I have partially cover the label, gonna call lipship again today to see what they have, or redo labels on panel

deciding white or red wheel didn’t get that far yet, have 1 of each here

frickstyle 02-12-2018 07:44 AM

Let's go boating.

Ran into a friend of yours yesterday, Dustin? Had a Marinette.

Full Force 02-12-2018 07:55 AM

Yes let’s go!!

Dustin from Parma? Mechanic?

frickstyle 02-12-2018 08:37 AM

I did not ask him his life story, he just mentioned you, said he knew Turner too.

Full Force 02-12-2018 08:50 AM

I didn't say anything you wouldn't have said yourself. Looks like a lot of dirty maintenance to do, but that's to be expected in a boat of that age.

I'm ok with the mess, boats in great shape, price was right, I rather make it mine then pay more money for one done, I enjoy this as much as it can suck at times, the end result is always the payoff.

NIce work!

Rick G 02-13-2018 06:10 PM

Hi Tim , just a thought wouldn't soda blasting have been a cleaner option ( and not hard on the aluminium) . I am consider redoing my 5 drives and having stripped a number of vintage cars valve covers and other various items the idea is not as much fun as it used to be . Just a idea especially for the rams and drives with all the small spaces .
None the less its going to look great when you are done .
Cheers RG.

Thought about it, but I have a hard time being at the mercy of others, say it's a week, then a month and so on... so I just do as much as I can myself, even if it is not fun lol

frickstyle 02-14-2018 07:02 AM

Why not just scuff and shoot? Leave the previous paint/primer on for the paint to stick to?

I have a good write up on how to do drives if you are going all the way down to bare metal, if you want it.

Full Force 02-14-2018 06:26 PM

These messed stripped down, I got the stuff to do it just time consuming

frickstyle 02-15-2018 07:05 AM

Huh? "must be stripped down", Is that what you meant? Cause of all the corrosion, or?.... Do you have to sand them smooth?

Just curious, I have decided to scuff and shoot mine, see how they hold up. The process is pretty involved to take it down to bare metal, and if you don't get it right, you get to do it all over again in a season or two. It's pretty hard to get into all the voids/pitting, etc without the proper solvents/prep work. I am sure you know what you're doing though, I'll just keep to myself.

this works pretty good, depending on the size of your compressor.
i use mine a lot.

don't know why the link doesn't work, but it's a portable abrasive blaster, harbor freight.
makes a mess, use outside

I have a about 6 hours into stripping, not too bad, the reason I do so much myself even if it takes a while, is I HATE waiting on others.... 4 days turns into 3-4 weeks... all the time.... I cannot handle that... rather do ,myself and get my boat done, I am not one to miss seasons waiting on others... so few can come through in a timely manner...

Keeping it white and factory, at least for now... I cannot paint where the boat is anyway, just cleaning it up for now..

Rick G 02-19-2018 08:30 AM

Too bad Tim , ZP is right , I did my transom in high Gloss black gel ( air dry gel coat with 40% duratech 90 ) and it hides the scum and stays cleaner ( doesn't exhuast carbon up either ) .
RG.

Full Force 02-19-2018 08:41 AM

Oh I get it, just can’t do it now, boat is rack stored so it’s easy to clean and maintain also, I clean my boat every weekend as it is lol

Naysayers be damned, period correct and nothing looks cooler! Love mine. A comprehensive rebuild and GGB inserts, make them quiet enough and lots cheaper than two new wet systems.
