Ran into a friend of yours yesterday, Dustin? Had a Marinette. |

Dustin from Parma? Mechanic? |
I did not ask him his life story, he just mentioned you, said he knew Turner too.

I didn't say anything you wouldn't have said yourself. Looks like a lot of dirty maintenance to do, but that's to be expected in a boat of that age.

Hi Tim , just a thought wouldn't soda blasting have been a cleaner option ( and not hard on the aluminium) . I am consider redoing my 5 drives and having stripped a number of vintage cars valve covers and other various items the idea is not as much fun as it used to be . Just a idea especially for the rams and drives with all the small spaces .
None the less its going to look great when you are done . Cheers RG. |

Why not just scuff and shoot? Leave the previous paint/primer on for the paint to stick to?
I have a good write up on how to do drives if you are going all the way down to bare metal, if you want it. |
These messed stripped down, I got the stuff to do it just time consuming
|
Huh? "must be stripped down", Is that what you meant? Cause of all the corrosion, or?.... Do you have to sand them smooth?
Just curious, I have decided to scuff and shoot mine, see how they hold up. The process is pretty involved to take it down to bare metal, and if you don't get it right, you get to do it all over again in a season or two. It's pretty hard to get into all the voids/pitting, etc without the proper solvents/prep work. I am sure you know what you're doing though, I'll just keep to myself. |

this works pretty good, depending on the size of your compressor.
i use mine a lot. Attachment 575239 don't know why the link doesn't work, but it's a portable abrasive blaster, harbor freight. makes a mess, use outside |

Too bad Tim , ZP is right , I did my transom in high Gloss black gel ( air dry gel coat with 40% duratech 90 ) and it hides the scum and stays cleaner ( doesn't exhuast carbon up either ) .
RG. |
Oh I get it, just can’t do it now, boat is rack stored so it’s easy to clean and maintain also, I clean my boat every weekend as it is lol

Naysayers be damned, period correct and nothing looks cooler! Love mine. A comprehensive rebuild and GGB inserts, make them quiet enough and lots cheaper than two new wet systems.

Paint the transom . Will look nice with fresh painted drives
