It looks great, I did a similar deck off, bulkhead out, total rebuild to a Formula F-302 in the early 90's so I feel the pleasure and pain (I still think I have chronic glass itch to this day). I was truly amazed the Formula factory put the F-302 together so badly, it was an 80's boat so i assume total mass production in the Miami Vice days... Screws, nothing but screws ........I mean they screwed carpet covered panels between the cockpit and cabin and called them bulkheads, same drill separating the cabin and v berth ...... they screwed the deck and hull together via the aluminum rubrail and i swear they used plumber's putty as a bonding agent ....... absolute crap. (1/4-20 at 6" centers +5200 was the fix) After an 18 month re-do, it was truly amazing the fist time I took it out in 5 footers off Newport RI...... launched and landed off the swells and nothing shook or vibrated :drink: I went all white and never looked back....... I used Awlgrip on the hull, I did consider variations of white eg pearl but the painter pointed out crap happens and hulls get dinged, touchup would be a lot easier with plain old white Can't wait to see your finished product !!! |
Ok so got some test panels and had a buddy who mixes paint come Over and we mixed a few different white pearls shot them on some test panels took them outside and looked at them in the sun. I’ll get some pics up but I got to say we found a white Pearl that is kick ass against black I think it’s going to be Pearl white and her name is going to be white Pearl!!!!

Here's an old picture, you can barely see it. They are fixed mount. Provide great flow, and good for 5-15 psi depending on speed, never had an issue. I forget what size feeding the big Hardin dual stage strainers 1-1/4"? Like B18 above, it also has the drain plugs through the mounting plate. It's a nice setup, I think mine were custom made. Possibly off the shelf, forget this was about 6-7 years ago. They stick under the running surface but not much, maybe 1/4" .
B18, where yours are full dia, facing forward, mine are cut more like the bottom surface of the hull (flush). Water almost shoots "up" into them. Picture all that force pushing down from the hull, when the water leaves the back edge of the running surface, there is a lot of pressure (displacement) that is relieved and in turn pressurizes the pickup tube. This way you create less drag (but on the non step hulls I would bet any "speed gain" very minimal) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3d7997ed4c.jpg |
B18cls69, you feed both engines and both intercoolers with that pick up ?

Put a Tee in bilge ? One single pickup feeds a strainer, then from strainer to a two-stage water pump. One inlet - two outlets: one to engine, one to intercooler. Pump below, kinda hard to see. Just (1) one 1-1/4"dia water feed to pump. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fbc45f7106.jpg |
