Was there more than one?

I've seen several variations in different pictures now. And I read that Don had a Cary hull or two in the states and one in Europe?

Great question Cigracer I have too wondered about the whereabouts of "The Cigarette"

there was a post a long time ago on here (cant remember any details) but someone said that it was stored in a barn somewhere....... one of those posts where someone hints that they know something but wont spill the beans

I popped the question to Bud Lorrow (sp) at Cigarette about the origonal coming from a Cary mold and his response was "no it was a Cig" "Cary came after Cig"

Wrong. Sorry, but "The Cigarette" was a 32' Cary hull from a Cary mold, and Cary technically came before Cig. It was called "The Cigarette" not because that was the manufacturer or the hull, but (if I remember correctly) to pay respect to someone or something up north. Not sure if that explanation made any sense, but what the he$#.

Jack - So true! Even though it had "Apache" all down the side, it had a round Squadron sticker on the aft sides! Which amuses me when the Apache 'experts' say Don Aronow had nothing to do with Apache. Don was involved in the first one, Jerry Kilpatrick's boat "Apache" , AND Benny's '41 Warpath.

Wait a dang minute! The boat was a 32' Cary. The plug was built by Nick Chapman at Hydroglas Corp., in Hialeah, Fl., 1969, to a Harry Schoell design (a very slight mod of the highly successful full height 28' Magnum). Nick cut the chines on my band saw at Nova Marine.

"The Cigarette" was also the name of Don's #16 Formula 233 that he raced in the 1963 Miami-Key West race. My 233 was named after another rumrunner, "The Hijacker", #69.

Don had so many non-competes (which he didn't give a s**t about) that in the end, he would have needed taller boats to list all the names.

The First Cigarette "the Cigarette" Was Out Of A 32 Cary Hull And It Was Named "the Cigarette" In Respect To A Friend Of Don. If Your Lucky To Find The Book "searace" I Would Get It. We Have Had Ours For Over 12 Yrs And Back Then It Was 69.95. What Ever It Cost Now It Would Be Worth It Cause That Is The Encyclopedia Of Offshore Racing
