Richie, when Don rigged my first Top Banana, he used Stan Irwin engines and I got to know Stan very well. Stan told me the story behind the engines of the Miami to NY record run. He said if the boat broke down, everyone would be told that they were Custom Engines by Stan Irwin....BUT if the boat broke the record with no engine problems, then the PR release would state MERCURY engines were used. Stan just laughed and said, everyone knew who really built them anyway.
