The cockpit transformation is coming along good. The cockpit area was filled with fuel tanks and extra aluminum for the bracing of the canopy. A couple of hundred pounds of aluminum where taken out for that. The cockpit floor area had extra's that had to be cut out to get back to the old floor platform. this week I am welding in the new dash panel the full length of the top forward edge of the cockpit and edge of the deck. I found a very good welder that will dime weld it so not to have to grind down the welds to keep that machine look. I have the floor panels cut out and the sides of the cockpit will be diamond plate.
I also added a picture of the inside bow structure. Remember this was built in 1973 when most aluminum boats had regular plate stringers and ribs. Most of the Rascal's structure is bent aircraft aluminum for strength and less weight.

Here are a couple with the wind screen put back on. Pre fit and drilled before stripping and painting.

It's been a while since she wore that hat. I didnt think the engine hatch intakes would look good with the wind screen but they look perfect together. It's going to be a year or two before power is installed but this nice weather is making the wait hard. Starting to shop.

Had the privilege to talk to Phil Caricoff this week. What a boat designer and building Legend! Sent him some pictures of the Rascal. He has not seen the boat since his company built it in 1973. What a thrill it must be to see one of your works of art thirty nine years later. His boat designs are spread out from Italy to the Hawian Islands. What an accomplishment.

The decision has been made. Staggered 540's with 13/4 drive shafts out the back of transom on the surface with single rudder. Simple and sweet.
