Skippy, Thanks so much for the shirt. That's so nice of you. I really appreciate the gesture. We will talk soon.

Cary29, great looking boat!!!

Is anyone here watching the new Netflix original series "Bloodline" set in Islamorada, the Florida Keys? Just after the opening credits in the fourth episode, there's a scene with a red Magnum 27' Sport anchored just off the beach...followed by an interior scene of 8 or 10 illegal immigrants locked in the "cabin" (obviously a set, not the real boat) then it clips back to the Magnum running offshore, on fire and ultimately exploding. Next scene, the salvaged hull is being investigated by police while hanging from a forklift or hoist, and the cut in half and burned boat is actually a 1976 29' Cary, with the telltale Jean Claude Simon deck...which had been for sale as a project in Fort Lauderdale for ages. Shame seeing it cut in half and burned! They couldn't have used a Bayliner?! :angry-smiley-044:

Yes I remember seeing that Cary for sale a while ago. It's a shame that most people don't realize what these boats really are. The first Cigarette Don built was actually a Cary. He had a no compete agreement that kept him from building it himself or having it be a Cigarette. The the 32' boat called "The Cigarette" was a Cary. The quality of the building and ride is unbelievable. Bob Latham was picking up the boat I have as they were taking the sign off the building and putting up Blackfin. Those are the original Cary hulls. You can read countless articles about the hulls and the offshore capabilities. Brownie rigged my first Cary which was a 1973. Hull number 3 with staggered number III drives. 482 ci special kiekaffer motors. The rods actually had that forged on them. There were only 25 of those engines made. Cool stuff to find out.

Cary 29 05-03-2015 05:49 PM

BTW that boat I had purchased also from the original owner and it's a 32' with a Jean claude simon deck as well.

Cig35Mistress 05-03-2015 08:11 PM

I am intimately familar with the history, and tried to buy your old 32' as a matter of fact - way back when, when it was in Dania, at American Offshore Marina. All white with a grey/silver bootstripe, three man stand up, Target trailer...remember it like it was yesterday! Greg Gluck and Jerry Fusco were the salesmen/brokers there in those days. Probably 1999 or thereabouts? I remember the boat came from the 1000 Islands area!

If I'm no mistaken mythbusters destroyed what looked like a Cary ,the boat had the tell tale deck.

Anymore pics of this. I saw this boat as well when it was at American. Good looking boat with timeless lines.

Cary 29 05-04-2015 06:17 PM

A guy named John ... Bought it finally and is restoring it with his son. They are in South Carolina I think.

Cary 29 05-07-2015 12:41 PM

Btw I lowered the price of my boat in the classifieds to $42k. Thanks Cary

Cary 29 05-27-2015 06:42 AM

Yeah it's funny how the very early built race boats seem to have had the flat decks and the Jean Claude decks came a little later. Most every one that I have seen that wasn't a dedicated race boat was a Jean Claude deck.

At the 1975 Ceder Point Ohio race I talked to Jean Claude as my friend was racing this 26E Cary. We were docked next to the Beep Beep Modified class Cary so when Jean came by he ask us how we liked the lager cabin the 26E had, we replied it was useable. Because we were racing in the production class we sleeped on the boat @ out of town races to keep the cost down, it worked. Many of the production boats like the Magnum sport @ that time had flat decks & unusable cabins. From what I remember Jean thought this idea would work, but this look was not for everyone.

Cary 29 05-28-2015 04:14 PM

Yeah people love it or hate it. My wife thinks it's art decco looking. It is more usable but my setup is a floor level with the cockpit. You have to crawl through the bolsters but it's not bad once you get in.

Cary 29 06-02-2015 06:43 AM

I just lowered the price to $40k on the boat. That's a really good deal for someone considering I have that much in the engines and props alone. Thanks Cary. I can send more pics to anyone interested.

Be patient my friend, everything has it's worth. Your boat is a very special piece, done to a level beyond, the right buyer will come regardless of where you price it. For that money I should buy it.

Cary 29 06-02-2015 06:36 PM

Thanks Peter I appreciate the kind words. I'm just trying to be realistic with the economy being what it is. Give me a call sometime. I've been thrashing on the Bertram trying to get the motors back in and the interior as well. Hope to be at the River in a week or so.

Been quietly sitting here watching this thread of yours. Just don't do something you may live to regret, that boat is one hell of a piece, one that you may never be able to replace, just saying. The Bertram is another thing all together, buuuuut!!!

We may be into August before we hit the river for the season, Samantha has some surgery set for the end of this month then the looong recovery period. Little preventative work on the Biotch, maybe get cozy with the Whipple folks, then back in August. Why I am touching these things now is beyond me, Memorial Day weekend the boat put down numbers it has never run ever, but all the experts say it is time for some work.

Cary 29 06-03-2015 07:21 PM

Well you will do it right. Tell Sam we said hello and God Bless. We will get together in August then. Thanks for the sound advice Pete. Your thoughts are always welcome.

Cary 29 06-03-2015 07:24 PM

Never have seen anything like those before. Neat.

32' Cary and a 26' Cary. Ask Sonny, he'll tell you all about the 26'.

Jeff

Cary 29 06-23-2015 07:08 AM

It seems as though no one can appreciate the advantages of outboard power unless it's on a center console. Medium to bigger offshore boats anyway.

Cary 29 07-22-2015 06:51 AM

I've decided not to sell my boat. I'm selling just the outboard motors and accessories. Putting motors back in and surface drives. I can't believe the response from listing the power on Scream and Fly. Thanks for the encouragement Peter and the rest.

Cary 29 08-04-2015 11:24 AM

Just sold everything on the transom to one individual. Thanks for your help and patience everyone.

Cary 29 01-25-2019 07:35 PM

Just wanted to update anyone who cares. I'm going back to Outboards. Merc 300R s. Sold my motors and Arneson surface drive s.

From a rigging complexity standpoint, I don't think you're going to be disappointed at all. From a performance standpoint, I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised. Good luck and keep us posted!

Can’t believe I never saw this thread Cary.
Just read it from the start.

Gorgeous pc of history.
It would be a tough hull to sell.

Good to see you pulled the trigger on the motors.
Cant see you being disappointed.

Just got back this morning from my trip to Fla collecting motors for my project.

Please keep me posted on details.

Cary 29 01-26-2019 06:16 PM

Will do Gary. Thanks for the kind words. Yeah I'm excited. Glad to see that you are getting things done. A guy from Miami called me to talk Carys. He just bought a 26' 1974 setup for twin outboards. Had Johnson s on it. I told him about you.

Too Stroked 01-27-2019 08:31 AM

Cary, Great talking to you yesterday! I sent a couple of e-mails to the address you shared in post #1. Tom

Cary 29 01-28-2019 10:51 AM

Might be the same Jean-Claude Simon Cary 26E that sold in Jersey 8 years ago? Had Johnson twins.
