Scippy, haven't seen the motors yet. They tell me I might not be able to till June.. i'm hoping that's not the case but what can I do...
|
Lars, this boat is not that 26' Cary. That went to a guy in Florida. He actually called me awhile back but for some advice. Great guy.
|
Sorry just realized that you were correct. I read that wrong... Forgive my stupidity, yup that's the boat. I thought you were referring to mine. Duh

Thanks for the kind words both of you. I will try to let you know when I get the process started on the next phase.

P.S. Match that AXA. So have you bought outboards yet? If you are still looking give me a call, can pass a tip on to you. |
Cary, your passion for these classics, the history behind them, as well as the work you do with them never fails to impress.
I want to know about this Bertram? Is there a thread on it? Pete, glad you're getting your hands greasy, it'll wash off some of the waxy buildup. AXA? isn't he doing the trawler thing? As of this a.m. my non-classic hull and deck were still in the molds. :) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f5a587f6b8.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ed46190460.jpg |

Smart? Maybe back 12 years ago when I bought this boat, hard to argue with 12 years of ownership / use based on gas, oil, filters and a bucket of wax. I've been very well rewarded with this purchase. Most would say it doesn't owe me a thing, my gut says it owes me 12 more on the same terms. Then I will have one for the perf boat hall of fame, 24 years on gas, oil, filters, and one valve job.

Hey Cary, all is well! and yes a CC.
looking ahead..."retirement boat" lol low fuss, low maintenance, easy to get around on, keep, and efficient. no more stooping, crawling, jumping, climbing, or standing on my head for me! Shoes? Rain? Potato chips and cracker crumbs? Spill your soda pop? Need to take 3 coolers and a half-dozen beach chairs for the day? NO PROBLEM! admittedly reactionary to being burnt out after 28 years of perf boat compromises, but it's my reality. I think I'll really like it. over 80 sq. ft. of floor space 9'3" beam, big tank 400+ mi range, huge head, ridiculous storage, LeBroc captain's chairs, nicest T-Top in the industry, everything well thought-out and laid-out, gets near 3mpg at just under 30 cruise and runs 50mph on Yam 150's Took 18 months to find "the right boat" from the "right builder" through the "right dealer". I live 20-25 mins from both A-Bay and Henderson. I just want a roomy Lake Ontario capable day-boat that's easy to run the hell out of all over. If I get a hair to overnight again someday 25/7/9' 90's Sea Ray cruisers are everywhere and cheap. Frankly with the filler cushion and the aftermarket bow tents/enclosures they have now for CC's it can be done on this if I want to. |
Amen Randy to all the points you make. I wish we lived closer to the River but forced to keep trailer boating for now. I agree with you on the theory at our stage of life. You will definitely enjoy hassle free, peac peacefully. I can't pass up the ride quality in my older boat. Restomod with the new efficient power and I enjoy both. But I have to compromise the layout at rest. Do have a nice Bimini that stores and collapse s though.... God bless...
|
hopefully Cary, I won't be shunned for going this route :picard1:
I had no interest in the typical "busy", "sit on the floor", "only one way forward" day boat. I wanted to sit high from the waterline in a big comfy seat, with my feet up, in the shade :drink: deep far forward entry and some flare for Lake O They brought this to the Miami show a couple weeks after I ordered mine so I at least have an idea of the appearance I did have the Haze Gray bottom color brought up to the style line nixed the T-Top rod holders and a few other small accomodations. They have been great to work with. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1577213900.jpg |
back to the classics. Apologize for the interlope. :D

One of my favorites.
Screams, pure class! Circa '1974 or thereabouts, Strohs Grand Nationals at Cedar Point Ohio. Cant tell in the picture but yes I have wood ;) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8b41ae2d63.jpg

That's why I posted that...
Lines, shapes, red/white colors, tasteful graphics and decals...just epitomizes clean classic hot rod race boat in every single way possible. |
Randy that boat is beautiful, dont 'let anyone tell you otherwise. You will not regret it. Functional boat out on the water is precious. Life is too short the one dimensional performance boat like mine is restrictive. Real boaters enjoy and have a passion for all types...
|
Besides Cobia has been building quality boats for many years. They have it all figured out ..
|
My buddy Charles from Montreal still has his Bertram. Probably going to sell it soon. No power ..

Rumor has it she is a handful up around 27 on the GPS, but if you get up on the wheel you can drive thru to 28.395 on a good day. |
I believe Cary said 300R's?

So when is the new addition due to be delivered? This could begin to resemble the old Ball Buster thread. |
Yes Peter 300R s the new V8 4.6l natural aspiration,

So when is the new addition due to be delivered? This could begin to resemble the old Ball Buster thread. and with Cary waiting patiently on power for who knows how long, and you taking a couple seasons off to change those couplers, we got notin' but time and space 3 weeks build time, bla bla bla … early May? gotta get moving on the trailer which takes 2 weeks. Today. Had interest in the new Mercs on mine but between the headaches of finding someone who knows what they are doing to rig it, and the unknown ETA on the motors, I just went Yamaha factory rig. EDIT: There's nothing too high-tech current cutting-edge about those Yamahas, and they are fairly ugly to look at... The new Mercs and even the G2's make 10% more torque on 10% less fuel HP for HP but they are a well-known proven commodity that can find service virtually anywhere if needed. Lots of tales of them going 7-10000 hours strong on nothing but oil changes, timing belts, and water pumps. I did get the 6 year warranty. Again nothing special as they are all offering extended coverage promos of varying lengths at any time. |

he told me it runs 29? how long till Dave finds this? certainly he can see this thread from the plane? 3 dimensions implies he "sees all" |
just got pics from Kent.
Outta 'da molds https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...560f9dee44.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0d3b28ea98.jpg |
Nice Randmeister, it's going to be gorgeous...
|
Any boat guy will enjoy these. Interesting stuff regardless of brand.
MGB/Cobia is active on the net/forums and is quite transparent. I emailed big cheese there today and I had an email back in 15 minutes, and it's not the first time. #1 selling CC in the country 26' and up. That says a lot right there 'cause these larger Cobia CC's are generally not first CC's, or beginner boats $$ Their market (for fishing) is Atlantic 50-100 out day trippers. Huge in Jersey and it often gets mighty unpleasant out that far in that neighborhood. So I think in terms of comfort on the River and the Lake I be just fine. :D with as much bottom as there is fwd, and beamy there's almost as much boat in the water as the 353...roughly about 30sq. shy don't miss the aluminum plates in the layup 261 walk through. The now 262 has an all new console, larger top and new integrated to console top frame no legs on the floor or pipes aside the console taking up walk-though space. Also has a new bolstered console seat. Head now has molded-in FW sink and cabinet/storage Like the rod holders on the t-top frame, I nixed the rack behind the seats as well. It protruded into the deck space Good thread from THT on tooling a new model. First post has a link to a previous tooling thread as well. Makes it pretty clear how much time and $ a builder has into bringing a new model before a dollar is made on it. https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating...bia-261cc.html you guys... Pete, Cary that know me will totally get why I bought a Cobia. Closest thing there is to a Formula CC. |

Pics out of the mold look like some pretty clean chit. You might get away with a gallon bucket of wax. Just walk out of work with a box of them procto gloves to keep that carnuba from under the nails.

|
Very nice, Randy she's a beauty....
|
Gorgeous lines, perfect amount of flair. Excellent sheer line as well...
|
I liked the lines myself obviously including the bustle drop, shapes and angles.
in this segment egress from one side of the platform to the other is not universal. it's getting a lil more common now but as seen here on the Cobia, there is a minimum walkway ahead of the motor well this was important to me. Again, this isn't a Yellowfin, Regulator, ect. but it wasn't 200K for a 26' either. In the world of mid-tier production boats, the Cobias are at, or very near the top of the class especially in terms of layouts, features, access, rigging, build, and performance. This took so long to find/decide because every other contender lacked one or more, even if they did others very well, quite frustrating! going to get the trailer wed. I have a big stack of electronics to install dual Garmins/transducers, lots of stereo (as usual). went handheld VHF |
Yes Boston Whaler,Cobia,Pursuit and even Grady White are considered the top for production builders. Cobia being one of the smaller ones is probably one of the best in that category... My dad has a new 23' really almost 26' with the molded walk around transom, Whaler and it's amazing quality.
|
my buddy has a mid 90's Grady 225 with 250HP on a bracket. That is an amazing little boat! boats on the Lake exclusively and we've had that thing out in some pretty big eastern end crap and it just a blast. The bracket has a lot to do with that.
I looked at new Grady's but the $ is ridiculous and I liked the layout and finish work on the Cobia over the Pursuit. |
Wow! That's like lickem', stickem', and done, instant boat! How long was the build? Was like only a short while ago you had pics of it just out of the mold.
Looks good, enjoy! |
