Repainting my boat Project (With Pictures)
#51
Jon,
Awesome work so far. Ig ive you a lot of respect for taking on such a project. I am in the middle of my own project too. I am restoring a 1979 Spectra 32. I started by putting on new wheels, tires, brakes, and leaf springs onthe trailer, then I rebuilt the engines (454's), freshened the TRS's, Rebuilt the trannies, installed new floors, and started fabricating the interior of the cabin. I still need to build the cockpit interior, colorsand the hull, wire, plumb, and then enjoy. My hull was painted all white by the previous owner, I think that I'll simply do Vinyl grafics untill I know exactly what I want the boat to look like.
Great work!

Audiofn the checkerboard may be hard to tape but the rest of tomcats graphics are quite simple. Depending on what type of paint you use and how much time you have to set aside at one sitting you should be able to paint it all in one day. I painted everything but the bottom in one very long day, the key is having the time to let it sit long enough to tape over wet paint. I think I had to wait about 3 hours between colors.

Audiofn - I'm glad you like it, but I just want to say that I know nothing about taping, painting or applying vinyl. Just because it's easy to draw on a computer doesn't mean it's easy to do in real life, so the advice from others on this board who have done this kind of thing is more important than my little picture. Good luck!

You guys are great. I initially put this thread up so that others could see the whole process. I am quickly seeing that I have learned from all this as much as some of you. THANKS Cobra Marty for that really nice link!!!
