Default Which harmonic balancer?

Good morning.

Merc 454 Mag going 177 blower. Looking to replace old dried out balancer. What do you smart guys recommend? Motor will never see 5000 rpm.

Thanks!

I've been told by many reputable motor builders to stay away from Liquid filled balancers. Boats sit to long and the liquid will settle which in turn will break the snout off the crank.

Excuse me for a second since I have known and helped swampy for prob over 12 years. Swampy, Don't get the dampners linked just above my post. A bunch have separated and flown across dyno rooms even. Doh !

Swamp, are your current 454's mark IV, gen V or Gen VI.

This is what I’m running on gen 6 502s. Recommended by Joe (mild thunder) timing marks all the way around and seems like a nice piece so far.

Also run the same brand on my Mark IV 555. Nice piece for the price.

You’d need that before balancing a Gen vi yes?
