What a nice piece you have Darren! :Score-101010: I was talking to Dave the other day, the 35s he's building you should get you real close to that 125 mark - which is phenomenal for a 32' cat with a pair of warrantied outboards on the back. Congratulations, you've got to be happy! :ernaehrung004:

Thanks Dale I appreciate it!! It's a super fun boat. Looking forward to this weekend to spend some more time running it.By the way, your 30 Skater is one of my all time favorites!

Friday morning run. 2 guys 60 gallons of fuel. Took Cowisl for a ride.

noli 08-22-2016 08:30 AM

.

You might hit 125mph just on the cooler temps I think

Yes, we still have not moved the motors up, just switched props.

cowisl 08-22-2016 08:48 AM

Awesome ride DK. The boat rocks!

Flightplan 08-22-2016 08:51 AM

So now we know there is not a hard limit at 7000rpm. That's pretty cool.

Were you hitting a soft limit?

Looks like you are very close to were you need to be.

Well done on the set-up this early.

There actually is a hard limit at 7000. It just overshoots the 7K slightly as it's reducing power. You can feel it in the boat. It is very noticable. Cowisl and I were talking about how the boat accelerates SO hard right to 121-122 where it hits the limiters and it holds the motors back.

NHbaja 08-22-2016 09:18 AM

My father was in Alton on Friday and sent me a few pics of your boat. Very impressive. I have no clue how to post them.

Nice! So these were a different set of props? How is getting on plane with the over hub props?

These were the small hub Merc props. Gets on plane like a ski boat. Effortless..

Thanks DR!

AZMIDLYF 08-22-2016 10:04 AM

Cats are better than Vee hulls using over hub props. So water pressure still giving you room to raise motors a bit more?

Skater30 08-22-2016 10:29 AM

Looking good Darren! I'm guessing you're at 1.5" above the bottom right now? From what I hear, 1.75" above is about the limit with those gearcases. Great setup you have, and I'm certain you'll get 125 once you get the 35s from Dave. Have you sent your 34s back to him yet?

ktron 08-22-2016 11:00 AM

AZ, yes water pressure is good.

Thanks Dale, I actually sent the 34's back to Grant and I think he is sending them out for someone else to try. Not sure when the 35's are coming.

Skater30 08-22-2016 11:37 AM

Is that large screen on your dash linked to your Vessel View? It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a Vessel View below the larger screen above it. If so, did you do that so you could view more data at once using both screens? I've heard that a Simrad screen will link to the Merc stuff, as Simrad makes the screens for Merc.

Yes the large screen is a Garmin 7612 and it is linked to the vesselview7 below it. I use the Garmin primarily for Nav/water depth and the stereo but it does have the ability to show all the engine data.

Your dash is the way of the future, looks very cool! Are you using the trim indicators through the Vessel View? I've heard they can get off, and they need to be re-calibrated from time to time. The X-Cat guys are all running mechanical indicators still. More pics of your interior would be great, you guys did a stellar job! :ernaehrung004:

Yes, I use the trim indicator through the VV7. I have it set up to show % rather than lines. It is much easier to glance at and know exactly where you are at. I have a little over 20 hours on the boat and I just double checked it and it is still right on. I will definitely check it again once I get a little more time on the boat. I will get some more interior pics soon. Still waiting for my carpet but should have it soon.

AZMIDLYF 08-22-2016 04:32 PM

What are you thoughts on a foot throttle in this set up?

kap328 08-24-2016 09:28 PM

Congrats Darren:

Your boat came out awesome in every category.

Hope to see you at an event or two. It would be nice to run with another DW :).

I would really like to see the boat up close one day.

Thanks Kap!

I will be doing some runs next year for sure. I would love to check out your DW as well. Your boat was a huge reason I ordered mine!

kap328 08-26-2016 03:25 PM

Thanks for the kind words it means a lot to me.

Let me know we plan our boat schedule a year in advance. We will probably be doing the Tickfaw 200 again in 2017 and or LOTO.

:)

I will definitely let you know. Looking into LOTO and some others. It will be cool to meet you in person after following your build!

Have you put enough time on the boat to figure out your best cruise speed vs mpg & gph ?

MIke

So far I have 23 hours on the boat and from what I can tell my best mileage is 3.1 mpg around 74 mph and just over 2 mpg at 100.

Boat looks great on the water Darren! Glad to hear it's doing so well on mileage, not quite what the XSs get, but not too far off. I get about 3.2-3.3 mpg at 75 mph (burning 11-12gph per motor) and right at 3.0 mpg at 90 mph (burning 15gph per motor). I never checked at 100mph, but I know the mileage drops off significantly at WOT - right around 2mpg when running WOT (115-118mph w/ two guys and fuel). When you factor in that the XSs are burning oil at a rate of around 30:1 (yes guys, I go through about 2 gallons of oil for every 60 gallons of gas burned), the cost is probably about the same per mile. I hope you get your 35s from Dave soon, can't wait to hear the results!

Dale, I received the 35's last Friday but did not have a chance to run them. I am hoping to run them the weekend after Labor Day and will post the results. Thanks!

boat looks great! nice attitude running too! you sit low in the cockpit as well, I would imagine little to no wind up front!?!

ktron 09-12-2016 07:23 PM

No wind at all in the front seats and the back is not that bad at all. You can talk to the people in the backseat while underway.

Boat flies level and runs very flat.

Lake rat Skater 09-12-2016 07:38 PM

You will have to let us know what the top speed is in some cooler weather with your big props.
