The standard ones I had originally were 15 Diameter if there is such a thing as standard. I say that because I had to ask for the additional Diameter when we built the second set. So happy for you. Have fun and have many hours of safe boating. Steve.

Steve,

Thanks i appreciate it! I wish you the best as well with your Sweet Skater and the continued dialing in. I love following these threads with all the cool builds and info.

Nice!

Is it just me or does that look huge for a 32?

cowisl 07-13-2016 05:46 AM

You are correct. It's a very big 32'!

LAriverratt 07-13-2016 12:45 PM

it looks great! the additional height was a great touch! not sure how tall those guys are but pretty sure I'd like the feel sitting in it! the 28 skater was a little to shallow for me. 308 is deep and much larger all the way around. your 32 look to similar in depth. congrats!!!

Thanks LA!

The two guys in the boat are Grant and Andy and they are both 6' tall.

Did some prop testing with Mercury Monday and Tuesday. Boat loved the 33" Merc small hub props.Ran 121 consistently on the limiters with a good crosswind. That's with 95 gallons of fuel and two guys. Acceleration was incredible. We got 2.23 miles per gallon @ 100MPH.

Question...with the 400Rs on this hull, were different static balance adjustments made in the rigging/lay out compared to say a 300XS set up? Have you had it out in some rough water yet and seen how she flies?

The only differences we made were 80 gallon tanks instead of 65 and the transom is thicker and has bigger supports. We did not move the batteries forward or anything like that. You can always add weight to balance the boat up front but hard to do the opposite. We ran the boat in some very windy conditions with a 2' chop but it was not super rough.

AZMIDLYF 07-21-2016 02:59 PM

Tanks in the same location, just bigger? I was just interested in knowing if any rigging differences had been made for the added rear weight balance.

Yes same location within a couple inches and bigger. Batteries and amp are still in the back.

Sorry about all the questions. Are the motors on hydraulic plates or manual?

Not a problem with the questions at all. Heavy Duty CMC manual jack plates.

.

I've heard from people in the know (don't want to drop names here) that the large case that the LU has on these 400R motors are actually helping the lifting of the rear of the hull when under way.

Not sure if its just during the planing speeds or the actual cruise speeds or top-end, these folks have observed this over the last 2 rigging on the DW32 and thus wanted to "exploit" this knowledge on this(third) and possibly future rigging. This is probably why the weights(batteries, etc) have not been shifted to the front.

will have to watch and listen some more as info is shared to me. Sharing this info so that other cats currently being rigged with 400R's may look into this.

Ran the boat all last weekend. Incredible boat and setup. So easy to get into the boat swimming with the bustle. Can't wait to get my Merc props!

Nastybug 07-28-2016 11:02 AM

Hey Darren, What props are you running while you are waiting on your Merc props. And did you run both the over hub and the small hub props from Merc. How was the comparison between the two. So glad to see you're enjoying the hell out of her. The wait is so tough but totally worth it. Steve.

Thanks Steve! We did try both over the hub and small hub on my boat. The boat likes the small hub props the best. I ordered a set of the 33" small hub props which are going to be my all around props. Mike from Merc is going to send me a set of 34" small hubs to try with a lighter load and slight diameter change to see what we can get for a big number. Right now I am running 34" over the hub Dewalds that I borrowed from Grant. The 33" small hub Merc props ran back to back to back 121 on the limiters with 45 gallons a side @98 degress and super high humidity so there is definitely more there.

That's great Darren. I am glad you got her home safe and using the boat.
Funny how all these boats are different in what they want for props.

Yes, learning a lot. it's incredible the variables involved.

I'm a little confused with your terminology... "over hub" are you talking about "thru hub" like a Bravo w/ a barrel? - "small hub" are you referring to over hub like Mercury Racing cleavers and Dewalds with not barrel? I am just trying to make sense of different applications.

Now, are the props spinning in or out on this beast?

Sorry, just referring to the different styles like I was told. When I said "over the hub" I meant like a Bravo style prop, Small hub is like a #6 prop. Dewalds are over the hub like a bravo prop.

If I had a new 32 Doug Wright with 400R Mercs on it ............ You guys would be sick of all the pictures. "Just sayin" ;-)

I agree but I think you have the next best thing. The 30 and 32 DW are to big for the water I run in. Now a new 28 DW would work for my application. Please post some more pics or videos when your not having a blast in that beast. Congrats again Darren!

Not to thread jack but, this is a new DW designed 28 coming along nicely. Twins or a single varieties available...

So what RPM range are you trying to get the motors in with bigger props?

We are just trying different pitch, diameter and drive height combinations to see how the boat reacts to it because there are several of these boats coming down the line soon.

That is great to hear and also not surprising. I mean 120 in a 30+ foot cat with twin outboards is just awesome. Thus the orders should be rolling in. :)

ocean goer 08-08-2016 03:54 PM

If I had your boat Steve all DLB'rs would hate me because of the pics and video's I would be posting daily...... LOL

ocean goer 08-08-2016 03:56 PM

What would a 28' cost with 300xs motors?
