Default Pros/Cons external water pickup

My mechanic suggested I switch to an external water pickup. His feeling is the Bravo doesn't allow as much water to the impeller as an external unit. The Bravo water feed is 3/4", compared to the 1" water pump hose.
What are the pros/cons?? Thanks!
For what its worth the boat is a 24' Sunsation class 6 boat.

i have heard that you might lose a mph or 2 depending on the way it is mounted.

I don't see why that would be a problem in a Class 6 boat. Don't you guys run relatively mild enigines? LWP on a Bravo should feed plenty of water to that engine. It will also be lower in the water for when you guys are running in the rough onthe course.
