WOW!
I can’t believe this thread is still going. I guess that my 1984 Excalibur 31 was one of the last before the switch to Wellcraft. It has a pad bottom & notched transom hull #NAP11412M84A I forgot to come back and post after I finished my re-rig. I swapped out the merc trans with TRS for bravos. I set my X dimension at 19 inches and am running bravo 1, 4 blade 26 pitch props. The boat is a completely different boat, it carries the bow so nicely, now. It’s a real pleasure to drive. I have only used the boat one summer since my re-rig. I apparently have a crack in my port fuel tank near the back at the top. I’ve left my boat in storage the last two summers. Hopefully I can get to fixing the old girl next spring. I have too much heart & soul in the old girl to give it away at current market prices. Here’s my dash, before http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...al-dash03b.jpg after: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...s-sa401178.jpg transom before: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...il-rear-b4.jpg after http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...s-sa400474.jpg http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...s-sa400471.jpg |

I found a 1979 Chris Craft Excalibur 31 for sale. It has a solid hull. The transom was recently rebuilt. The boat has been profesionally painted red and white. All cockpit seats and interior have been reupholstered. It is on an aluminum trailer. It used to have twin 454s but they were removed. All the boat needs is to be repowered and you would have one hell of a boat. I wanted to get it and finish it for the poker run and boat races here in Key West, however, with my other ongoing projects I just can't afford it. I figured I would let yall know incase anyone was interested. It is located near Charleston, SC. If interested let me know and I will give you the contact info.

Excalibur lives on in the Active Thunder line. Thunder 31and the 32 was a Excalibur bottom with some small changes and a cored hull and the deck was designed by Bob O. Take a close look and you will see what is oveous. Zanie Keep the old boat alive. You have one mint boat. \NICE/

|
I'm interested in selling my 32' executioner... with or without power, most likely without as the price would be stupid for the power that's in it... anyone interested should contact Alan @ [email protected], or www.akracing.ca

I may be able to fill in a few of the emply blanks in this ageless thread. Without question, the Farmer designed 31 and 40 Excaliburs were ahead of their time in hull, top deck and bottom design. The 38 Excalibur which was a Tommy Adams' Signature was also an outstanding design and performing boat. Lloyd Barker , an Oldsmobile dealer from Cleveland, had a 1982 red 40 Excalibur Hawk (glass boat)--he later moved to Florida. The blue and white 40 Excalibur(pictured in this thread) named Jet Prop Commander was an 82 Kevlar boat (67mph) owned by Dave Maruna of Cleveland. There was one other 40 Hawk in Lake Erie, other than mine, yellow in color which was a glass boat. All the foregoing boats were built by Bill Farmer. By 1982, Dick Genth (President of Chris Craft and a friend) eager to get Chris Craft into the sport boat business made book with Bill Farmer and began building the 31 and 40 Excaliburs with Chris Craft badging. They were called the 39 Stinger or Scorpion with raised deck and the 31 Stinger. A number of the early 1982 boats were built at the Excalibur plant with Excalibur HIN numbers. When Chris Craft began there own production in 82 they cheapened up the boat and in late 82 the Coast Guard stepped in and mandated the strengthening of the hull and decks. I ordered a 39 83 Stinger and fortunately or unfortunately it was the boat which Chris built for the the Coast Guard inspection in the fall of 82. I think they put more glass in it than a 50' cruiser. No matter how much power I put in it, I barely saw 60mph on a good day; It was truely an anchor! The first Excalibur Eagle 42 I saw was at the 1983 Miami Boat show. I believe that were asking the astounding price (at the time) of $125,000.00 and I think it is the only 42 Farmer ever built. Wellcraft built a bunch starting in 1985. Wellcraft purchased Excalibur in 1984. In my opinion, Bill Farmer put himself out of business with the Genth deal. Chris Craft was selling the same boat with an upgraded interior for 35% less--not the same quality but it looked the same. By 1984, Excalibur Boat Co(for a limited time), Chris Craft and Wellcraft were building the same boat from the Farmer Excalibur molds. In the fall of 1984 in collaboration with Gus Anastasi of Wellcraft I order a 1985 Excalibur Hawk 40. It was somewhat of an experimental project for Wellcraft. It was a gray hull, gray top deck with Kevlar hull, airex core top deck and nomex rear hatch with notched transom and 1" raised X . I ordered it with 330's and thru the prop exhaust as I purchased the Maruna engine package from his Hawk--482 Chevys and Gill exhaust. This boat was super light and when I docked next to a glass 40 it sat 4" higher. The boat had the number 40 on each sides of the bow, an airbrushed hawk and the name Excalibur on the sides. It was spectacular and attracted a crowd anywhere it was docked. In 1985 it ran an honest 70mph in fresh water and was faster than many of the race boats then competing in GLOPRA. Don Able may remember this build at Wellcraft. In 1988 I ordered a 42 Eagle. Well, that's my story and I just loved my Excaliburs!

Hello Goldeneyee, Any pictures of your 40 you can scan and post. Our Black 40 was ordered and was to be the last one built at Farmer's shop, but because of some mistakes ended up being the first or second built at WellCraft. Thanks Jon
|
Jon: Both my 40 and 42 were at Monroe Boat Club for the GLOPRA races during that time period. I do have some pictures, however, they are at home and I'm in Florida on vacation. I'll post them when I get home. Bill

My old 83 40ft Hawk was a white hull with blue and red stripes I think its still at LOTO next to big thunder??? I was told it came with 650 turbos and it had SM #3s on it.

goldeneye - Thanks for the post. Nice read.
Thought I would add to this thread a pic of 3 40's from last summer. http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy99/TxHawk/2.jpg |

My very first boat in 1979 was a 1975 24 excaliber , built in sarasota. Black sides, white deck and below water line.. brown "fake suede" vynil interior, mercruiser 454 375 HP, TRS drive, Hynautic steering mounted inside the boat, thru hull exhaust... I was very cool in it's day.. would love to know what happened to it.. It had gold leaf lettering on the side "MOTOR CITY SHAKEDOWN". last seen by me on northern lake st clair in about 1990...

My 42' Excalibur was out of Flordia named EARL-Y-BIRD.

does the 42' eagle share the same bottom as a 38'?
I have measured from transom to front and it is only 38'. The rear has "add ons" that are molded to the cap. Kinda like they took the 38'bottom and made an extended cap for it? which would make it 42' over all... What do you think? Johnny |
I always thought the 42 Eagle had the 40 Hawk bottom with the taller deck and swim platform added.
|
Correct. 40' hawk hull, Eagle 42' top deck...

1979 Excalibur 24'
Hi guys, I'm new to this site. Grant Allen (Mr.Excal) shared it with me and I'm the owner of a 1979 24' "Long Deck" serial number NAP04439M79J. We've had this boat in our family since it was new. My family built the Excalibur cars in West Allis, Wisconsin (Milwaukee area) and we licensed the name to Bill Farmer to use in the boat industry. In return we received one of the 24' boats. It is nice to know there is still a following out there for these special boats. As soon as I can figure out how to post photos, I will.

Ran across this thread while looking for information regarding Chris Craft Stingers. I'm the owner of www.chriscraftstingers.com and I'm looking for all historical info on the Stingers in order to create a comprehensive history for them. Would be interested in hearing more about how Chris Craft got the molds and what happened to them. Please feel free to email me at [email protected].

1980 27ft low deck outboad with twin 200 mercs. GPS reads 72 mph lite on fuel with 2 people on board. As long as we are asking questions has anyone ever run one of these with big power? I'm about to put a pair of 300x mercs on mine. Here's a couple pics from a few weeks ago. |

I want to thank everyone for the pics in this forum. My Friend has a 79 excalibur he has refinished and was looking for the double-edged sword graphic. I was able to re-create based on the pics found here. thanks again.

Hello,
First of all, I want to apologize for my bad English but I'm French. Congratulations for this topic and all the fans of this brand. Maybe some people here could tell me more about my boat. I bought last year a "Scarab 27' Sport" in France. The boat have a fantastic hull for me and a nice deck for mi wife.:) I did some research and I found only one other boat like mine, in Italy (I brought mine in France but it also came from Italy, there are many Scarab Italy). I start this topic (Scarab 27' Sport information) in the Scarab section of OSO but I didn't have many help. I also start the same topic on another forum and an owner of Excalibur told me that my hull was the same as his 27 '. I made a lot of research and I have now learned the story of Ecalibur. Does anyone here have pictures or could inform me about the 27' Opensport ? Is It The Center Console model ? My Wellcraft has the HIN PBI0027860029 (27 ', year 1986 and hull # 29). PBI is "Paradise Boat Inc." In Miami FL, someone knows ? Here is after I finished his refit. http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/550/47709502.jpg http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/7809/49788765.jpg http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/9529/45683545.jpg http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/5...1256615956.jpg http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/8206/sam0106h.jpg Thank you in advance, any information will be useful. Best Regards. |
That exact same excalibur open console design pictured above is sitting in the back of brownell boat yard in Mattapoisette MA. I noticed it sitting their and unfortunately after lifting the rear most floorboard up i found the boat to be filled with water.. damn shame too.. it had a pair of mercs on it and has probably been sitting there since the mid eightys.

Ouch, I can not understand how it is possible to let destroy a boat like that!
I talked by email with shark2 the author of this thread: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/e...-question.html He sent me pictures of his Excalibur 27 'cc. It is the same as my Well. except that my bow where it has a cuddy cabin and the transom who is open. I'll ask him if I can post 1 or 2 pictures here. |
Here is some pictures of shark2's 27' Center Console.
His hull # starts with NAP. It's an 1981 boat. http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7371/62384323.jpg http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9748/23991527.jpg http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/381/46202538.jpg http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/7568/99504496.jpg http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/2682/46636282.jpg Thanks to him for these pics and our discussion offline. |

Has any one started an Excalibur owners site yet?
|
I've been involved with 2 Excalibur design boats (1978 hull designs) recently. One is a complete restore which we added triple outboards (3 Suzuki 300DF's) with a swim platform. The owner bought the boat back in 1983 from Don Able. I have pictures of the current restore as well as her sister ship. Both are currently in SW Florida.
|
Wow. I'd love to chat more about the Excaliburs. I'm currently involved in a beautiful restored 1978 Excalibur in which the owner added triple outboards. The hull is the same. I have many pictures of 2 boats but having a difficult time finding a way to post the pictures. My email address is [email protected]
