For the absolute best MPG, horsepower for the $, weight to speed ratio, longetivy, and flexibility of fuel the Turbine Marine TM 1800 is you best bet. Only draw back is forget about insuring your vessel because no company will do it. Twin set up will net 3600 HP top speed remains unseen. Will work on 42 and 47. Both excess of 150 MPH @ 3,000 LB lighter than twin 1075 SC.
If you must insure your boat then Nor-Tech 900's will outlast Mercruisers before their scheduled ovehaul two to one. About 120 hours for the top end.
Next option for durability is Teague TCM 900EFI About 110 hours before top end service and will rocket a 43 Donzi ZR at 26+ MPH. On Fountain 42 must be 30+ MPH. Also lighter than 1075 Merc.
Cheers! to speed..

The 38 with 700's will run 115mph and I would expect around 110mph in a 35 with 600's, both of which are better in terms of maintenance and insurance. If money is no object, go with a 42PR with 1075's. It will take a cat with big power to outrun you.

If you're wanting to run in the atlantic off New Jersey, you'd be much better off in a 47. It is a much larger, heavier boat and not that much slower with the same power. You will be more comfortable and drier when the seas abruptly turn on you which tends to happen there.

26k to rebuild a 1075 would not be so bad. brace yourself got quoted 95k for his two from merc along with some other work. now that is some serious coin if you have to do it every hundred hours or less.

I am not sure I understand, we never built a 42 triple and the 47 triple 700 boat was not what Reggie wanted in comparison to the performance he acheived with the twin 700 boat. The rebiold question is tough because everyone boats differently but I would say top ends 250-300 and motors 400-500 hours. The most we have seen is 275 hours with no problems on a set of 700's but we have a very short boating season.
Hope this helps.

I would have thought the 47' with triple 700's would have been an awesome package for someone who doesn't want to deal with the shorter maint schedules on a twin 850 or twin 1075 boat. Guess the performance wasn't anywhere close to the ~ 115mph of the twin 1075 despite similar total HP. Guess it's another instance of the inefficiency of trips when compared to twins.
