Fabbing new water pickup. |
Way cool!
Looks awful deep , in my 42 a few years ago I cut a 1 inch or so relief down the keel about a foot or so long which fed a 1.5 pickup same as this to a single monster separator which fed both engines , worked great with very minimal drag .
This is same type. Last year we had to lower it 3/8 of an inch. Couldn't get enough flow. I'm running dual impeller water pumps on both engines and with the CMI big tube exhaust that has the 1 inch water dumps.it needed that much more. We just made a new pickup because the old one was hacked together from lowering it last fall.

Hows the Poker Run holdin up? Haven heard any updates...
Question - On the Cats, Skater in particular is ramping the water pickups - Any fountains have this as that looks like its deep to be extremely functional but scrub mph at the same token?

What size water line are you running?
-20 from pickup to sea strainer then -20 out to each pump.-20 to bell housing then 2 -16 to cross over. 2 -16 from intake to exhaust.
Is a -20 big enough for both engines?
1 1/4 inch hose. Yes same setup that they use on the race boats. A friend owns the kilo boat it is set up same way except pickup is on the back step.
measure the fittings they are smaller than the hose size by a fair amount. I'd run 1.5 inch hose.
your pickup looks deep and big, so I'm thinking your restricting flow after that.
Yes it does look that way. But that is the end result of achieving what we were after. Our water pressure doesn't vary more than 3 or 4 pounds from 30 mph to 110 mph.
I may loose a few mph but that's ok with me I would rather have the steady pressure. |

The hose connected to the shutoff valve is an air bleed. It exits low on the side so when the boat is off plane it is underwater. That way it doesn't suck air. When under way it bleeds any air that is in the strainer. You can fine tune your pressure by the size restrictor you use in the hose. When we are going it pushes water out this is how I am sure we have enough flow. |

Beautiful rigging Keith, nice touch with the 12 pt fasteners! If those sheet metal intakes don't meet your expectations I want to be first in line, lol. Charlie
ill never forget blowing the hoses off the oil coolers the first time we went north of 150 the water pressure really builds quickly at 170 i think it was over 400 pounds into the strainer..... its quite a balancing act to have enough at low speeds and not blow things apart at high speed....... intercoolers do not do well over 20 pounds of pressure even well taken care of they have a short life superchiller says 3-5 years...... awesome job on the quality rerig!
Thanks for the compliments, most of it should go to my son Shane he has been the one that has done most of the contortionist moves to get this project to where it is today.
Perfect chop for that pass, well done.......and by the way its cheating using child labor for those tight spots.....:D
Haha he's 25. Yes it was a nice day for it.
Crystal clear skies here in the northeast today, perfect day for a fine run.
Congrats on one fine project, your attention to the little details say it all. |
I know blue steering wheel will be here next week
If you want to sell the steering wheel i want to be first in line

Was hoping you were bringing this to Kuttawa Cannonball Run!
Fortunately for us we have been busy at work. So in these conditions I'm not going to complain. Hopefully soon enough we will get to take time to travel.
Every time it’s even more baderasser!
