Check out sterndrive engineering. They sell an alpha replacement dirt cheap like $1100 complete. We put one on a buddies boat last year, it fit just like merc, and he hasn't had any problem behind a 400+ hp small block. This guy loves to race jetboats from a deadstop too. They have a 3 year warrantee no matter what the power too.

SEI lower is $795 brand new. Made somewhere other than USA I think,but unbelievable no fault warranty.Used several,no issues at all,lots cheaper than rebuilt and they are brand new.
