Engine Rebuild/ New to OSO
#1
Hey there everybody. I've been reading the post and checking everything everybody seems to be pretty cool.
Well I finally got me a boat - a 98 353 fastech w/twin 502 mags. the other day I was out and the starboard motor failed. Oil and water all over the engine hatch. Got the motors pulled and the starboard motor striped down to the block. Looks like the the intake failed at rear where it blocks the rear water port on the head. The intake rotted away right there and dumped water in to the valley. Is this a common problem?? Any remedies to keep this from happening again? Rest of the engine looks good the motors where quicksilver repowers the tags say 04. the water jacket are pretty clean no scaling, didnt bend any rods. So i think i can get away with honing, rings and bearings. Does any have or know where i can get lower intake? Best place to get a rebuild kit? Any thing else i should do while there out?
This is my first personal boat and it was the first time out takeing the fiancee out (she was thrilled about the motor after we just spend the money to buy the boat) But i dont think anyone could have known it was going to happen. Bad luck i guess.
I appreciate any help.

Was it a salt water boat?
The fear would be how is the other engine?
If you are rebuilding it yourself, we can get you the rebuild kit, otherwise you would be best served taking it to a local engine guy where you can get service and support. Make sure they stand behind the product and have a good reputation.
Sorry to hear about your situation. Welcome to offshore boating!!
