It seems to work pretty well with FMO and I hope I'm not talking out of place, but none of the FMO runs are races and there's some "really" fast boats, but these guys know when they can get some speed on.
They wait until we're in open water and they spread out, that's cool, if god forbid there's a problem, it's not due to a spectator boat or from a wake of a boat that's in front of them.
We went to every run but one last year because we were out of town and not once did I ever see anything stupid or anything like I've been seeing in these videos coming out.
You can't give or make someone have "common sense", mostly because it's not that common anymore, stay safe.

Yeah, pretty boring on the left coast......
Seriously, I applaud your decision.
Mr. Safety (Stu Jones) is totally on top of these threads as well and hearing our concerns. I grabbed a beer with last night and after voicing my thoughts, with the Key West run just around the corner, he said "we've always had strict rules, it seems now is the time to really enforce them"
All though he can be pretty annoying when he gets worked up he has my utmost respect when it comes to his concerns for our sport and well being.
While I haven't met you in person, Bob, it appears as you have the same values.

Mr. Safety... does run a well organized event and safety is indeed a major issue and discussions during the drivers meeting. Other runs I attended pretty much have the safety issues in the rule book, while yes there is room for improvement and changes to upkeep with current event, power, speeds, spectators etc. No additional rules, ideas or gadgetry will solve the problems unless ENFORCEMENT takes effect. I have no issues some one flexing their muscles or pocket book at the right time and place. With Stu.. (FPC) I have some issues, mostly enforcement of violators and the tacked on insurance fee. He needs to penalize the ego drivers and not pass on the liability for the divers with lesser ego or hardware. (not that I don't have a huge one. lol ) I would guess the insurance issue would be less of an impact if the underwriters would feel comfortable with the implementation and enforcement of the safety protocols. And that's what I been preaching. Few years ago at an awesome FPC run in Ft. Myers, one of the "big boys" with turbines. ( I think it was JBS? I have to look at the vids) was extremely attentive to be just "one of the boys" during the run. No strutting his speed and capability during the event, wasn't first at wherever, and it was a really enjoyable event. We all knew who got the "top gun" in the pack. There was no need for fly by's or aggressive maneuvers. Pretty much after the even has closed, on the way back, he was out on open waters, conditions optimal for hauling ass. No one around for miles and he did with some great video coverage. (Well.. I am envious of that part, but it's all good.) A good example when everyone followed the rules and a place an time to let the boat do what it can. Good job Stu and JBS on that day. (just an example, when to do it and where to do it)
HP500. no one can kick you off the "water" but all PR are private events and organizers have the right to enforce and ban the trouble makers from events or the club.

On the edge??? In 2012 a quite a few of the "fast boats" blew by the pace boat and the rest of the field on Lake Charleviox, then got on plane IN the channel at Lake Michigan causing a dangerous situation for the rest of the field. Can't comment on this year, but will say that the general lack of courtesy and some downright dangerous driving by some was a factor in our not coming back this year. Too bad because otherwise it is a lot of fun and most of the participants are good boaters and great people. This whole situation in general is just another example of a few screwing up a great thing for everyone else.

The vid has been pulled. Probably more pissy PMs making the rounds.
