Come to think of it it has to be that Americans think they can get by with English everywhere and are therefore considered ignorant to put it mildly. A true story Now in the 70īs a national broadcast here interviewed people at one of the airports people leaving the country about the sauna and what they know about it and aired it live. All others being ok in their answers until an American who looked more like an Arabian terrorist with his beard threw a fit and started hitting the interviewer:eek: Well the Cameraman kept on shooting everything and when the police had taken him to the ground and asked why about his behavior he stated he didnīt understand the question ( presented to him in plain english). * Priceless. Talk to us more about Baja's and the other boats being made outside the US. Bigger ones in Italy. Cigarette 38 flatdecks splashed in the 80īs and called HiTech 1st edition by the guys who founded NorTech in Norway and Sweden. There was a Norwegian court order to destroy the molds. Cigarettes nowadays in the High tech country of Turkey? Chris-Craft had a plant in Italy in the early 70īs making cruisers What else do you want to be enlighted with? |

I do a substantial amount of international traveling and the global language is English. When the Korean and the Chinese and the Russians get together they speak English. Not because American's are ignorant - we are not forced to learn another. Anyways this isn’t debate about any of the above. Hope all is well in Finland. Thats why they build the big boats and labour costs being cheaper in the mentioned countries. Remember also that Spain was in the 80īs a below par country regarding quality in general. I might add in Turkey they copy everything they can get their hands on and Skaters are truly above their Turkish splashes. I donīt have a hard time believing that when you take a fisherman to build boats or cars the result canīt be as good as a steelworkers/ boatbuilders at least not until the fisherman has become one but thatīs some bean counters do have a hard time believing and the failures are proofs in my book. Regarding Asians and Russians well with Asians I speak English or Finnish with them Iīm not forced to any other either But try any (North) African country and you have a hard time getting by If you canīt french..same goes for Canada too in some places... In Europe you might also get in trouble with just English. Especially those places were English speaking arenīt well looked on. Russians start mostly with German, and that might be strange. On the other hand Russians when Germans invaded took mostly them with open arms as they were seen as liberators of Communism and a ticket to free enterprising and ownership. Guess Somebody has altered your History education. Must be the same guy who told that Soviets/Allies liberated Europe... but forgot to mention what happened afterwards and how people really felt when the Allied Red Army advanced... even in Russia people jumped over to the other side and hated them by millions. Soviets at least punished those they cought so they took a stand even after the war so have to gice credit for them about "Staying on the course...." Remember that phrase :grinser010: Stop Crying about Christ will ya. Well should coulda But DIDNīt..you were their Allies and shaking their hands smiling (and licking) at the time. Regarding designes and tracable off course they are..everything is, wake UP. Just look at powerboats and their history. But your mistaking the Bear for The Bull. The Bear is a bigger and faster plus more advanced plane and has little in common with B-29 Hindsight is a bless ainīt it. My Both grandfathers hated Stalin and Commies To their Last breath and they got wounded and Fought against them, protecting their ATTACKED Homeland. No-one in Europe wanted Russians on their soil, but you helped them in that. A small history lesson for you. So a Big thank you. * Donīt GET ME STARTED ON THIS...anymore. I often wonder how Stupid the U.S. Central "Intelligence"/ foreign policy REALLY is because thereīs hasnīt been nothing but failures in their efforts. And the U.S. Citizen pays the price among others. So no wonder Americans are considered not that bright in general. Even in Russia or China. Well, have to inform you all Russian cars are licensed, itīs cheper to occupy a country ( with free ammo and guns) and steal the factories so actually who did it benefit and who shot itself on the leg ? Afterwards they have also built mainly licensed cars. AK-47 and STG 44 have nothing in common not even the caliber. I guess you have loaded assembled and fired both of them ? I have and AK47īs derivate RK62 and its different versions to boot. What was the subsonic Ruskies shot down ? A Rockband has a similar name... And youīre saying they have nothing even close...well close enough to take one down and end the program right there. The main goal with usually to GETITDONE in those circles. Oh boy here we go with the Pissing contest again, unfortunately. Have a Molotov Cocktail...:drink: Back to topic. I wish the Spring will bring up the markets too and it looks the banks has to bite the bullet and open their purses by lowering the interests and look at the big picture, if they donīt everything will halt to stand still fast. If they canīt and have overcredited then some other nation has U.S.A by the balls, China as we speak as thatīs whose money U.S. Banks has loaned out. As we speak the one and only quality products that I can think of and is Exportable is powerboats from U.S.A. If the make in question is a quality one that is. * Think Global and that thereīs competition too out there, the Stars And Stripes ainīt much to go for nowadays. It was like 20-30yrs ago but those days are Sadly over or was I just young and narrowminded back then ? |

Utter piles of squaky plastic rubbish even the Cadillac STSes and their leather seats..what are they made of..buffalo ass skin or? But the AudisīI have driven havefine leather carbon and wood allover.. The Brand new Jaguar V12 XJ-S was like that too back in the day we had, one of 11 XJīs together. So was the MB 560SEC. And all built like vaults, just to name a few I coulda been your friend..ready ax the roof of your datsun. My Wife had a brand new 280ZX. But a Firebird doesnīt have a frame.. or any other Ponycar or Muscle Mopar. So what Pontiac was he stuck with ? And Iīm so tired of all these POS in my garage.... My serious have 12 point rollcages..all 3 of them. The one I work with do have a Frame ( not the flimsy one US rigs do) but it pulls also 130Klbs totals daily. |

We went thru 20 yrs ago a crisis where Banks did go bankrupt nationally so we know and remember whatīs it all about. Just watch ... Unless the USA hit's some world wide lottery that has about 500 trillion dollars in it I fear we are done. Witch will end many good boat companys if they sell world wide or not. I love the US but I can't see away out. I have made more money each year but my wife was/is in the mortage biz and went 125k less this year, 100 last year and about 90 the year before that. She is right now in an job interview with her uncle to manage his body shops and picked up a part time job as a personal tainer. I geuss we are lucky she can still get a job, and more people might be painting older cars if there isn't any new ones to buy or they can't afford one.
Maybe are great Gov. will just pass a law that the 1000 richest Americans have to hand over 90% of their worth to save the US before China or Russia owns us. Or the worst will happen the dollar will be gone the USA becomes the North American Union with Mexico and Canada we change are $ to the Amero and I have a guy telling the people that own my biz. that he will do my job for 1/4 of what they pay me. So save all your money people in Finland there might be some good boat molds and tooling for sale soon. Sorry for the downer guys but it looks bad and NO president could fix this in three terms, I think Obama will be our last democraticly elected president . We just owe to much and I smell some big time fruad on our Gov. part, only time will tell. |

Do you want to see a Baja with a Made IN Spain plate attached too ? I think I can arrange it. So why do you keep buying them? Now they classics are offered twice the price even as we speak I got them for. Did that answer your question? |

If you have blown it away then or being overoptimistic then whoīs to blame? Maybe are great Gov. will just pass a law that the 1000 richest Americans have to hand over 90% of their worth to save the US before China or Russia owns us. So save all your money people in Finland there might be some good boat molds and tooling for sale soon. But are you Implying we can do hulls cheaper or better, with our taxes even? Which is it ? Highest taxes we have for ownership is 29%...for wages 75%. Iīm at 29/30 on both. Sorry for the downer guys but it looks bad and NO president could fix this in three terms, I think Obama will be our last democraticly elected president . We just owe to much and I smell some big time fruad on our Gov. part, only time will tell. If they could then the Big3 wouldīve got their help already. It Didnīt happen so do not look for the government for aid. The Bank themselves has to let the interest float so people will continue to invest in American products. And the Big 3 better support the American this time and not outsourcing everything. I remember 15yrs ago when my friend did a seat cushion machine for Lear seats but they turned it down. This fall I heard while foreclosing a company that this company I was closing did buy that tool and sold it to Chrysler and Didnīt get paid... With examples like that U.S.A will isolate itself also as the rest of the world does fine without it too. Like Iīve said before * Think Global. |
I am 38 and a Motorcycle tech / shop Foreman with a GED, I make 125k a year.I don't think I could retire on what I have saved, unless I am only going to live to 40. I never asked the Gov. or anybody for help and never will. I am self made never had any money given to me unless you count a the 60k I got when my parents died. My wife and I are good with money we have a house on the water thats worth twice what we owe and have had/have nice boats and other stuff. I know how to make money my fear is not being able to do it in this country.
|
I am not saying you can build anything cheaper or better than the USA, I am saying if we don't fix this HUGE problem we have here there will be alot of the boat molds you say we (the companys in the USA ) should sell all over the world for sale because the company is gone.
|
I never knew Finland was such a GLOBAL SUPERPOWER :hitfan:
|
Larry Smith has to sell his boat molds everywhere because you cant live on selling 1 boat every 3 years here. The 80's are over. Americans want Fountain, Outerlimits, Nortech, Cigarette, Not larry Smith, I looked at one of his Scarabs that was for sale it was a great boat but I couldn't find another one to compare it to.

Thenagain we donīt have to insure ourselves for healtcare or retirement funds if we donīt want to. Fact is Americans have accustomed to a life standard they canīt keep up and now they are taking the setback/ adjustment. New inventory of all brands is piling up........
Repos of all brands is piling up......... Lenders are leaving the industry.......... Economy has slowed so that no one is making huge cash....... Car dealers are folding left and right trying to sell a product seen by many Americans as a necessity.................... Think the free flow of cash, parties, real estate Mcmillionaires is all over for the rest of this decade and maybe into the next. Think 1970's America. Keep in mind Cigarette (the brand with worldwide adoration) has gone broke many times over its existence through the 5-6 owners it has had over the years........ |

So could you retire right now and not change your lifestyle and just live off the intrest of the money you have and investments without going to a job ?
Yes the cost of living is very high here, puplic trans. sucks they don't even have any where I live and I could not live in a city. My standard of living is not that bad aside from boats and I sold most of my toys that I don't use, I don't eat out, I pack a lunch 75% of the time, I live 16 miles from work, my truck gets 20+ mpg my bike 45. But when you make a plan then your wife takes a huge hit in pay and the economy face plants it hurts and I have dug into savings big time, I have 2 kids that want/need to get some kind of education after high school so thats going to cost me. |

I'll put this thread back on track. Maybe?
IMO the market for new boats may come around eventually, but even if it re bounded this year and new boat orders instantly and magically returned to normal, you are still going to have an entire years worth of new inventory that is sitting unsold on the lots that will need to be heavily dicounted in order to move it. My oint is that the used market can't rebound the way everyone thinks that it will. Prices won't go up because they are a direct reflection of the price of a new one. With new heavily discounted models on the market, the neew production models will also have to be discounted to entice sales of a new rig. This will affect all big ticket consumer items like cars, boats, etc. Just a logial thought, but maybe I am wrong. The math works out though. You also have to take into account our declining job market, which will decrease the amount of consumers for a used boat. So many other factors that point towards no recovery. Oh well. I'll let you guys get back to bashing each others countries.:angry-smiley-038: I just hope that the guys that owe way to much money or their rigs are happy with the ones that they have. I hope the guys that can afford to get into a newer rig have the patience to really wait for the prices to come down, because IMO they are just now actually where they should be. The discounts havn't even showed up yet. |
