congrats to My Way new and old

BILLS 1st run was 201 with MY WAY :coolcowboy:, Bill said the 2nd run might be late to day or in the morning. by the way GERRY KNOT RIGHT bought the 1st MY WAY without power and rigged it for 1200hp big blocks abot 5 or 6yrs ago and then said it wasn't fast enufffff; and rerigged it with t53s and its real fast again with the t53s.[when it was my way it had t53s but were taken out for new boat and sold without power] so if anyone wants to add t53s to there boat get ahold of KNOT RIGHT he knows all about both turbines and motors . he has helped me with my project of rigging a konrad ace set up on a boat that had a b1 drive. and hp500. we had to rerig everything for the DEAN GELLNER 572 1071 BLOWER motor ,higher X, add gauges wiring custom motor mounts steering pump, alt brackets that he modified at his shop. he also has a good paint guy, but I think he is just as good after seeing him tough up custom paint work on boats. my boat we should be testing next week shooting for a 35mph increase in speed with the 28 saber. so if anyone wants to look into t53s I'd talk to Gerry 1st he could put a package together that would surprise you on what it costs compared to say big turbos or blower motors for what they cost. Art:coolcowboy:ps thanks Gerry for having the talent to do what you do. you are gifted human being and a great friend over the last 5 years.:coolcowboy: so to the guys with the big boats ONCE YOU GO TURBINE YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK.:D:D:D its like being a ROCKSTAR when you pull up to a dock people come out of the wood work to see what sounds like a 747 is doing at the dock, even the blow boters come to see WHATS UP!!!!!! with that strange looking exhaust hanging out of the boat. good luck to the turbine boats it time for 211 mph. Go My Way!!

TRL505 08-27-2011 07:44 PM

Keep it in the USA.....someone needs to top that Kanuck tomorrow. And I hope its a piston powered boat...

Problem with turbines is you can't insure them. Regardless, congrats to my way and crew!

If you can swing the cost to own a turbine boat, you can swing the self-insurance cost as well.
That's not real-world boating anyway. Who's lake boat runs 90+ on here anyway? Probably 15-25% do. The rest are just living vicariously though others.
Th real problem is that a turbine burns almost as much fuel at an idle as it does spooled up & working.

Jason Smith stated that the problem with turbines is that they burn as much at idle as under load..... with the 1000-2000 hour lifespan before major service in a marine environment you can stand on them so much more than pistons.. In the Miss Geico - project X forum... Miss Geico sold their big motors ( T55 @ 4500hp - 5.4 GPM of Jet A) to the My Way Mystic.

Dyno report for the T55 is post 1 in the forum

It's all in how you look at it.

Personally, I hope a piston boat takes the cake. But that's just me:D

Flying yet???

Reliability, power-to-weight ratio & simplicity are the driving factors for most to go turbine over piston, in my observation.
There is nothing about boating that is affordable. Turbine power pushes the justification envelope, but they're so unique to most, especially in a boat they score major cool points that outweigh the extreme cost factor.....as far as the ego is concerned.

Mine has been wet once this summer. It's in the building right now needing 16 new injectors and a new owner.
Come by the #19 houseboat (1st dock closest to the main water) dock in KC if you're out that way. I'll buy you a beer.
Boat's name is "Y-Knot"

Thanks. I just heard someone say our 2nd run was 126. I'll have to check race control tomorrow morn. We will make 1 final run right in the morn with cool air. Our carbs are jetted for cooler air, the motors were a little flat today.

Young Performance 08-27-2011 10:11 PM

Jason, your second run was 125. Im looking to do the same by getting another in first thing in the am. Should run over 130. Im still trying to get used to the boat. That is a VERY impressive run with your boat. Good luck tomorrow. See ya.
Eddie

Young Performance 08-27-2011 10:26 PM

Jason,
If you keep going I may have to go get some pulleys and good fuel (I'm running 93 octane). Im giving up about 700 hp to you. I might need it:lolhit:

Th real problem is that a turbine burns almost as much fuel at an idle as it does spooled up & working.

with the fuel true you burn alot at 60 or 120 130, 140 and on to 170, but it costs about 20 grand or more to rebuild a 1075 to 1550 hp motors or more every 150 ,200 hours. about 10 times longer for a T53 = 1500 to 2000 hours .fuel on a blown or turbo motor around 900 to 1200 hp ,I'll find out next week but friends in that range say between 60 to 100 gals per motor a hour. the turbine would be about 100 to 130 per hour per motor.I got this by going out with Gerry, if I am way off maybe he will chime in. when we go out in his skater 46 and its calm or 5, 6 footers he runs 100 to 120 cruise speed going to block island say. and its a lot nicer ride than any vee in the 32 to 38 foot range I have been in. I am sure a vee in the 41 to 52 foot range might ride better than the 38s but not as a skater 46. in the long run turbines are the way to go and in a 40 or 46 skater is it. and I love the open cockpit. there needs to be more 42cigs 46 rough riders and OLs with turbines and guys should talk to Gerry. piston motors try to self destruct by stopping at the top of the stroke and then at the bottom. and a turbine just spins in a circle this was a quote at loto to day. plus with a turbine you do not need any water coming in the boat. to cool anything:coolcowboy:. so no water lines to break:eek:. well its late I am buzzed from watching the PATS get there butts handed to them. congrats LIONS. good night all. Art

+1 - he's paid his dues- learned from each boat and each boat he has built had has a detailed plan of attack... he just took the right steps in his carreer to financially be able to up the anty on himself let alone with the go fast running next to him

Yeah, he is Canadian but if it makes it any easier - the rig is American made :lolhit:
