I just got back from a ride in the new 29 with Mike. Boat is unbeleivable runs perfect, no chine walk, no tab needed. Very smooth over 2-3ft waves, and yes top speed was 94 on the rev limiter. It will go close to 100 when Mike is finished playing with it. These are not whipple boxes so lets not start that.
Are the speeds above that I have read from previous posts correct with the associated power? This conlcusion is solely based on the pictures and posts in this thread. It is a nice looking boat, and the windscreen does look similar to a DCB in styling. |

Tex, I dont think OL would ever have any intention of making such a 28.
If someone wants an OL w/ all of those ammeneties just get the 41. By keeping the 29 simple(one design), it will keep the costs down. And why would you like to see OL do all this? I know that pantera and saber could do almost all you are asking for already. Or you could easily see OL do all what you are asking for... just need some $ to order your fleet of them. Why you ask? Wouldn't you like to design your own boat? We all have different needs....... |

Let me understand this, in post #91 the protype boat with a 525 ran 87 mph on gps. Your test ride was 94 mph, and on the orange boat with the 600? The orange boat on display has 600 sci Mercury motors which makes the 94 mph very credible. Pictures from an earlier post of the motor. Based on the posts in this thread I am to conclude that there are two 29's built, the orange boat (600=94mph)and the prototype (525=87mph)?

It's a beautiful boat, very sleek lines. It's nice to see a new boat without the same-old Crayola graphics and seats so loud you wonder where the volume switch is. To each his own. Nice to have variety, nice to see some class. Very polished, professional looking interior.
There's a ton of boats out there, and many are the same old thing. With some of them, I can't really tell whether they're from the 80's, or just a few years old. I'm sure their owners appreciate them, which is all that counts. |

1996 my father came up w/a concept/design for a 40ft walkaround sport fish express. No one was making it... he had to find a builder to get'er done. (and no bigtime/big name boat builder would ever consider it) You CAN find a builder to get what you want done! Just may not be OL... that's all. And what you ask for is not unreasonable, but why even ask OL? They've made a design... you dont like it. Nuff said? The 29rockit seems more of what you want need in a boat. A pair of ilmor v8s/indy drives/ gen-a/c w/ drop down rear bench seat... only gonna set you back 250-280.(guesstimate). |

Thank you and thanks to the other guys that defended my criticism. I'm relatively young compared to a lot of the guys here. So maybe its a generational thing, but my generation expects more.
I would like to see OL make a 28 hull design that does it all including, but not limited to: 1) I'd like to see a cabin that is big enough for AC and portapotty and can sit 3-4 people. 2) I'd like to see a 28 hull design that is deep enough to be used in a sit down configuration or a stand up - whatever the customer wants. The option of drop down bolsters for the back seats would be nice because you could stand more people. 3) I'd like to see a 28 hull design capable of twin big blocks or single. 4) I'd like to see a 28 hull design capable of having an extended cockpit and carry up to 3 OB's. With any luck maybe have a spot for a generator to power the AC. 5) I'd like to see a 28 hull design with two different decks - one windshield, one with a fairing. For the obvious reason that no windshields are allowed on the race course. 6) I'd like to see a 28 hull design that can be an open center console or cabin boat. |
I want AC, a head, twin big blocks and a genny too.

The Pics of the boat in the water do it a lot more justice then at the boat show. OL will build that boat any way you want it for the right price. I wonder if that 600 sci has stage 1, 2 or 3 from dustin already in it.

It just went 87 with Eric Colby in it, but OL made more changes and got more out of it. This was the plug, therefore it will go faster than 90 with a 525 with the production hull and deck. They expect to see over 90-92 with the 525 and 98-100mph with the 600SCi. |

Apache can do all this as well.......and in a carbon kevlar hull if you want or whatever other kind of layup you want. I'm sure they could arrange to have skater lay it up if you really want to go fast. They can even add a bustle if you want. Come to think of it............the entire hatch design is eerily similar to the 30ft Rebel design, which is nothing more than a 28 brave with a bustle. I guess there are only so many different ways you can design a bustle. Would be nice to have the option to build the boat without a bustle.
