Based on my converstion with them at the Miami show, they test ran the plug with a 525. The orange boat at the show is the first one out of the mold and had not been in the water as they had just finished it in time for the show. I am guessing that after the show they dropped it in the water and have been test running it to provide the latest numbers. My real question that I havent seen answered anywhere or by them at the show is what the true running surface of the boat measures? I believe it is less than 30' LOA but with the bustle and notched transom the actual bottom looked pretty short when I was looking at it.

I read it has a notched transom. Is it 28'2" minus the notch as far as running surface? Maybe a little under 28'?

I would like to see OL make a 28 hull design that does it all including, but not limited to:
1) I'd like to see a cabin that is big enough for AC and portapotty and can sit 3-4 people. 2) I'd like to see a 28 hull design that is deep enough to be used in a sit down configuration or a stand up - whatever the customer wants. The option of drop down bolsters for the back seats would be nice because you could stand more people. 3) I'd like to see a 28 hull design capable of twin big blocks or single. 4) I'd like to see a 28 hull design capable of having an extended cockpit and carry up to 3 OB's. With any luck maybe have a spot for a generator to power the AC. 5) I'd like to see a 28 hull design with two different decks - one windshield, one with a fairing. For the obvious reason that no windshields are allowed on the race course. 6) I'd like to see a 28 hull design that can be an open center console or cabin boat. |
Hey Dustin, you working for OL now?:party-smiley-004:

You are correct. But the 600 will go faster, its on the limiter right now with the 600 and they didn't bring extra props to Miami. They'll test it again at the factory in RI, as the customer will use it in Mass.
The 87mph was the test boat and actually, it went 90mph. It just went 87 with Eric Colby in it, but OL made more changes and got more out of it. This was the plug, therefore it will go faster than 90 with a 525 with the production hull and deck. They expect to see over 90-92 with the 525 and 98-100mph with the 600SCi. Nice boat. |

Thank you and thanks to the other guys that defended my criticism. I'm relatively young compared to a lot of the guys here. So maybe its a generational thing, but my generation expects more.

I'm all for bigger cabins, stand-up enclosed heads, AC whatever. At my age, I want space to sit, space to sleep aboard, all of that. There's not that much in the performance brands to cater to someone that wants a faster, roomy 28' that you could spend a weekend or more on. Most of us looking for a boat like that, find their match in a pleasure boat, which is where that market exists. Some people love Corvettes and Porsches, others prefer a 4-door Mercedes or other performance sedan. Many of us are still looking for that perfect match, which may never be built. I'm not as speed oriented, so a Chap 285 seems like a good fit for my boating. |

Texoma, Enjoy what you have & don't b!tch about you'll never have. It just makes no sense. Is OL going to hire you to design their next boat? Nope. Will they change what they have already built based on your critiques? Nope.

Come to think of it............the entire hatch design is eerily similar to the 30ft Rebel design, which is nothing more than a 28 brave with a bustle. I guess there are only so many different ways you can design a bustle. Would be nice to have the option to build the boat without a bustle. Why you ask? Wouldn't you like to design your own boat? We all have different needs....... |
Just got home from Miami. -Loved the 29OL. It looks incredible in person. Nothing like I expected and really like the hard lines. A good friend is very interested as it would be perfect for our lake and very different from everything else. Dan had offered a test ride and we're taking him up on the offer. I'm really looking forward to running this fine piece!
