I'd hope anyone who is the captain of their vessel, responsible for their passengers, would have the common sense not to put that many people on their boat, putting all at risk!

Very sad day for the boating community. Regardless of how careless the vessel owner was. Three children lost their lives. No one should ever have to bury their child.

Prayers to all the families involved.

I am far from perfect, and I don't think you need to be "perfect" to realize that it's common sense not to intentionally put the lives of others aboard your boat in danger. Hopefully you manage to figure that out. In the meantime, I, along with anyone aboard my boat will remain imperfect, and SAFE!

Aren't life vests required for kids in N.Y.?

I believe life vests are required for ALL people on board, child or otherwise. The problem with life vests is they are like bulletproof vests......they arent much good if you don't wear them.

This is why I make everyone wear a life jacket at night or in rough weather. I also put whistles ($2) and strobe lights ($10) on all my lifejackets.

And 27 people on a 34 foot boat?!

Yes for children under 12 - except if they are in the cabin.
