Why is LOTO so great?

My favorite thing the LOTO locals say about the rough water is: "The lake isn't bad during the week." Really? What lake isn't?
I love how I have an oil ring around my boat that takes acid to clean off from a weekend of boating there, even though my boat doesn't leak oil. Oh, the water tastes like gasoline too!
Honestly, I think it is a neat place with lots of bars on the water, populated by folks that don't know it is way less expensive to drink beer out of the cooler rather than at a bar.
Oh, don't forget it is the 3rd most dangerous body of water in the USA,lead only by the Colorado river & Atlantic ocean.
Yup, LOTO is where it is at! Make sure you keep it there!

I grew up on LOTO and have seen it become what it is today. The property may be cheap compared to California but you can get more for your money nowadays in Florida! LOTO does have something for.everyone. The lake changes drastically through the mile markers, higher numbers equals calmer water and much much cheaper housing. 34mm and under, it's ridiculous houses and boats and rough water, and a lot of fun!
Yes I do get an oil sludge line on my boat....When I go to party cove, the shootout, or any event where there are literally thousands of boats gathered. And its mostly from the hundreds of generators running on the cruisers.... just go out for lunch and a cruise, no oil line...
LOTO is cleaner than it ever has been! They've eliminated almost all of the faulty septic systems and outlawed Styrofoam. Anybody remember the floating foam balls in the 90's? Debris everywhere!! It doesn't have algae problems or barnacles.. and the e coli problem is only because the MEDIA tests for it at Public Beach 2 where all the idiots feed the hundreds of geese!! Its been proven over and over and is isolated to that area.. they even tried to eliminate the geese until the tree huggers freaked out.

Not to date myself but I learned to water ski off the docks at Sportsman's Cove back in the early 70's.
My Dad's SS 235 Slickcraft was one of the largest boats on the water back then. You could "channel ski" and not get laughed at. The water was clean and clear. Of course over time everything changed and I changed along with it.
I still like to go a few times a year but now I'm glad to live and boat in FL. I've had the opportunity to boat all over North America and a few places around the world and so far like or not, there is no place on the planet like LOTO. BTW I never heard that acronym used until it started popping up on OSO. It was always just "The Lake" or "The Ozarks". To me it should be "Lake of a million condos".
Anyway, if you've never been there put it on your list.

We started coming down for a weekend here and there for years before we bought our place on the North Shore and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We are down almost every weekend and live roughly 365 miles to the Northwest.
We could boat at Truman, Table Rock or others that are closer or as far but we like what LOTO has to offer for us. Some people think Table Rock is the perfect lake and it might be but if you like to cruise and stop at a new place every weekend your out of luck. At LOTO we can either go out in the boat or hang out near our cove with the neighbors.
As far as being a dangerous lake most of the accidents that get reported involve jet skiers or other pleasure boats and on the rare occation a performance boat.
Getting back to the original question would we boat at Havasu or somewhere else if it was closer, probably but at the moment this is in our backyard and we love it...
