I'd like to get my buddy out with his old dinosaur. Slow as a snail, but this thing is unbelievable in big water. Ive never been in a 41 apache in big water, nor a skater. I have been on a 38 Flatdeck cig, and while that too is a awesome ride, this old USA racing cat would out run it in the big stuff imo.
A few years back, I had my old 402 Formula. 24* hull, heavy as they came, true 40ft Vee. My buddy and I had planned to run up to chicago from hammond for the day. We rolled out of the cal sag, and got outside the break wall. Holy mother of god I thought, here we go!! I did everything I could to keep from busting my Formula up into small pieces that day, and stay on plane. Ran about 35-40mph max, as that was about all i could do. My buddy next to me in the big old cat, was doing well. Finally, after about 10 miles of this, he had enough waiting around. He nailed it and let that boat do its thing, and man did it do it. It crushed about everything in its path, and watched him stand that boat on its tail a few times. Finally we arrived to chicago. I spent about 30 minutes in my cabin assessing, fixing and reattaching the damage. He just sat there drinking beer on his boat with a smile. |

Man that video is awesome! Miss those waves. Sorry but no 40 skater is gonna get out in that chit and run on top of them especially if its just a fun run. talking broken backs and lots of broken chit. i'll take being in a 41' any day over that water. ask Parn what he did to his Saber in 5ft waves. 6 to 8ft waves are nothing to mess with especially on Lake Michigan where they come at you from all angles. 6 to 8s in the ocean when they are really spread apart yea all day but you won't be hitting high mph. but then again there are some guys on here telling me they were on Lake Ontario running 100mph in 6 to 8s. me and all my buddies must have no idea what we're doing out there when it comes to being in waves cause no way we're running high mph
Dude put ur tidy whities on an deal with it :party-smiley-004::poopoo: Jen |

1st off let me say I am a big fan of Apache,Skater and AT. Owned a 36 Apache and have been in 33 AT and 37 AT with Pat. Love yours and everybody else's enthusiasm but that video was no where near 6-8's. I can ensure you there is no way in hell anybody not in a bolster will not be bouncing off the floor(hell at one point in the video Pat nonchalantly is looking at his cell phone) in TRUE 6-8's. In this onion run I am rooting for the Apache. But unless you get REAL 6-8's the Skater may have the atvantage. The video posted from MI with the 36 Apache was in 4-6's with some nasty holes maybe up to 8' here and there. Watch how that bow is going up. I have been in real 6-8's with my 36 Apache and lets just say the amount of air hang time would leave Michael Jordan jelous:angry-smiley-038: It really is not for the faint of heart and is very dangerous. Other then that carry on:ernaehrung004:

Very few people out there know's what REAL 6-8 ft's are. Many people go out there and it a little ruff and automatically concider it 6-8 when theyre real 3-4's....Go striaght out of haulover inlet in fall/ winter with crossing winds and seas and than you'll really know what 6-8's with occational big holes are. Ive been to the LOTO Shootout many time and know how busy it gets when everyones leaving. That's a small washing machine....Nothing like Lake MI and i have been in that pond when it's ROUGH. It's fun as hell for the first 15-20 mins after that it hurts but very few can take that beating.

Actually the 6-8s were between Government Cut and Haulover. I only saw one dumbazz in a boat out there and it was me. And it truly was 6-8s. I was only glad tide was going in and not out or Haulover would have been a poor choice to enter. And on your topic, put me in the Apache. Saccenti on the throttles, of course! |
