I'd like to get my buddy out with his old dinosaur. Slow as a snail, but this thing is unbelievable in big water. Ive never been in a 41 apache in big water, nor a skater. I have been on a 38 Flatdeck cig, and while that too is a awesome ride, this old USA racing cat would out run it in the big stuff imo.
A few years back, I had my old 402 Formula. 24* hull, heavy as they came, true 40ft Vee. My buddy and I had planned to run up to chicago from hammond for the day. We rolled out of the cal sag, and got outside the break wall. Holy mother of god I thought, here we go!! I did everything I could to keep from busting my Formula up into small pieces that day, and stay on plane. Ran about 35-40mph max, as that was about all i could do. My buddy next to me in the big old cat, was doing well. Finally, after about 10 miles of this, he had enough waiting around. He nailed it and let that boat do its thing, and man did it do it. It crushed about everything in its path, and watched him stand that boat on its tail a few times. Finally we arrived to chicago. I spent about 30 minutes in my cabin assessing, fixing and reattaching the damage. He just sat there drinking beer on his boat with a smile. Love it when a newbie shot out into open water from the Cal Sag opening to the lake and stood it on end LOL! |

Preview http://youtu.be/ttN2stWdoeg not sure how big, CJ or Parn would know. Maybe 3 to 5s with some big holes. This would be Big Steve and Valako in Blue Moon. (A couple of the old guys) They were still dialing in the SCXs. He had trouble keeping water pressure up.

Sorry to say I was out there with him and it was not 3-4s. And here comes the old wave height debate... Carry On :evilb:
1st off let me say I am a big fan of Apache,Skater and AT. Owned a 36 Apache and have been in 33 AT and 37 AT with Pat. Love yours and everybody else's enthusiasm but that video was no where near 6-8's. I can ensure you there is no way in hell anybody not in a bolster will not be bouncing off the floor(hell at one point in the video Pat nonchalantly is looking at his cell phone) in TRUE 6-8's. In this onion run I am rooting for the Apache. But unless you get REAL 6-8's the Skater may have the atvantage. The video posted from MI with the 36 Apache was in 4-6's with some nasty holes maybe up to 8' here and there. Watch how that bow is going up. I have been in real 6-8's with my 36 Apache and lets just say the amount of air hang time would leave Michael Jordan jelous:angry-smiley-038: It really is not for the faint of heart and is very dangerous. Other then that carry on:ernaehrung004: |
