Yup, my boat engine cores are based off chevy technology from the 60's.....when we built stuff that lasts.

Calling my engine anything that resembles today's production GM is a joke, my boat was built in NC by Mexicans

I am all for buying american products... When I win the lottery and buy a big boat... I will also be buying a super duty for pulling it. The fact is that MANY Toyotas and the components on them are built in America and Canada. You are right... Many of the new generation with forget the dispicable, sickening attacks from Japan during WW2... But we should also remember that those attacks were avenged.. BIG TIME...

You are posting utter lies to justify your foreign purchase. Why don't you look up GM, Ford and Chrysler employment. First of all I believe you've overstated toyota by 10k ish, but either way GM employs 90k Americans to sell a similar number of cars. Ford over 60k to sell less. Before anyone gets cute and blames this on efficiency, Toyota claims to employ over 300k global people vs GM's 250k or so. Foreign companies per car sold employ less than 50% of the people, which is then multiplied by the supplier effect, etc.

Keep justifying buying foreign crap because they sell you a load of crap while wrapping themselves in the American flag. Americans are fools and they know it and exploit it.

Please feel free to post how the Big 3 have moved production while others build here, the reality is laughably the opposite. The VAST majority of domestics are built in the US, a much smaller bit of transplants. All they have to do is put "made in USA" on the one or two models in a commercial and this is the crap "Americans" spew to justify their purchase.

The tundra is junk. A country that can't buy enough bland Camry's still buy 1/6th the tundra's they do F150's or GM's each.

Edit: adding a link, aka a clue http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2...s-workers.html
Great article, thanks for sharing!

Those buildings are empty because of corporate greed. The big three starting cutting quality for bigger profits, the UAW asked for a bigger portion of those profits (as they should have) suddenly they couldn't afford the overhead they created and starting selling us JUNK!

This argument always starts the same way. Someone calls the best truck I have ever owned jap scrap, even though they never have owned one, and they refuse to admit that American car engineering got cheap the last 3 decades while everyone improved.

1. I got burned on many big 3 cars and trucks
2. I see a difference in quality on everything outside of the big 3, just by opening and closing the door
3. I don't car what you drive, however a few uninformed seem to attack what I drive, which in turn makes me attack back (it's so easy)
4. It's my money, I am going to use it for beat value
5. My truck is the most American truck you can buy, tied with Ford. I don't care how many jobs Toyota created in the USA, I just know my vehicle was built by American wokers in Texas and Tennessee.

We used to be the best at making everything. We didn't care about "being fair" we didn't whine over competition, we just kicked azz. I am so sick of hearing about it, if they can do it we should be able to do it better. And only recently have we seem improvement in areas of quality from the big 3, because they have lost so much market share by selling an inferior product based on a name that was built building years of quality product, that is quite the okie doke!

If you look at my posts, you'll find that I'm one of the few here agreeing with you. One of the great things about this country (for now at least) is our freedom to buy and say whatever we want.

And as for quality, the $16,000 2006 Toyota (Scion) parked in my driveway absolutely blows away the quality of my $34,000 2010 Ford F-150. (And don't even ask how it compares to my former POS 2005 F-150 that almost drove me into a Toyota Tacoma.) Oh, and did I mention that the Scion has 112,000 miles on it and the Ford has only 42,000 miles on it? Yes, my 2010 Ford is far better than my 2005, but there was no place to go but up from that truck.

I've always felt we as a nation held greater dislike for Japan then Germany after W.W. 2 and that dislike continues generations later and is applied via a general dislike of their consumer products.

If you look at some of the trades on the floor and consider the continuing education, intelligence, mechanical aptitude, and physical abilities they require one can make the case they should command as much if not more than certain 4 year degree + office jobs. Not to mention the fact that many of the floor jobs carry the risk of injury or death on daily basis. Something the average white collar worker isn't subjected to.
You're absolutely correct. When I was still a journeyman toolmaker jig&fixture builder the engineers would come out of the office to look at the work we were doing and they were in awe of the skills our shop had.

He then proceeded to tell me how the Chevy salesman had showed him a video that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Ford was junk and the Chevy was the best. I called a friend of mine who owns a Ford dealer and asked him to cue up the Ford video since I was sending this guy right over. Man, did that lead to some head scratching. And you wouldn't believe how many folks fall for them.

What you might want to do it stop at a GM, then Ford, Then Dodge, the Toyota dealer and ask to see their videos. What you'll find is that no vehicle is perfect. They all have their individual strong and weak points. And after all, if one was perfect, would anybody buy anything else?
