Was there a knock off of this boat - TEMPEST XPE-27
It is a Tempest XPE-27... Some came with turbine, others with stern drive..
I like the boat - its just EXTREMELY rare... I was just curious if there was another company who released this same boat possibly....

I am pretty sure this was originally a porsche designed boat that was built by tempest utilizing the same power plant as the 928 porsche.
Only a few were built.

yea, I remember that being the Porsche boat as well. I think I also remember seeing the motors on ebay not to long ago.

Re porsche design - it wasn't this boat... I actually found www.tempestyachts.com today and they have info on each boat... This one came in a turbine model and also a stern drive model.. There was a larger boat that tempest made (a 34 maybe?) and they were talking about it being "the first boat in the USA to have a porsche motor.... I guess its possible this one did too - but they said nothing about it in the video.. Looks like there were quite a few magazine articles about it around 1995 as well - mainly due to the turbine im sure....
Would love to come across one of these in neglect and slowly rebuild it... throw a 496 or something in it.....
I will keep searching for that perfect - ultra unique boat for me..

Actually this boat was originally built as a Porsche design back in 1985 or 86. That's when they first started on the project. I don't remember if it was a single or twin engine boat. My memory is a bit fuzzy going back that far. Lol

it was a single.. either sterndrive or surface drive.
Interesting on the porsche design.. I've dropped an email to the owner of the company for some more info - will share once I have it...

Ha well... A quick google search revealed you are correct.. It was a porsche designed boat.. I had the opportunity to own one of these (in bad shape) for next to nothing a few years ago. I let it pass me by and now I'm quite regretful...
What a unique boat... Just another one to keep my eyes out for again I guess..

There was a Porsche boat for sale on E bay for a long time it was a twin jet boat. Silver with a red interior, they must have gave up cause they wanted top $$ for it & there were never any offers. Randy
