Better come for 100mph ride on rails and through the rough on my CUSTOM built Baja before you make statements like that. Baja might have made the majority of boats a lower budget builds but they were fully capable of building some badazz boats.

Active Thunders are sweet boats but no reason to get down on Baja's. There is a reason that Baja has out sold AT same as Outer limits outselling AT. All great boats but if AT was Soooo amazing thier cult following would extend to NEW boat buyers not just used boat buyers.

Being a past Baja Owner,(Hammer, 25OL, 33OL then finally the 40OL) I saw the Baja and each boat after that as stepping stones, In my opinion, the next step up is the AT, then Cig. Too me, that was the transition.

But the debate between 36 Outerlimits and 37 Active Thunder, is in no real way a fare comparison, two totally different boats, in styling or performance.

I have been fortunate to be around both brands (and many others for that matter) too see and feel the difference in ride.

Styling is subjective, whether you like the "new age" look, or the classic styling, both are great, but again it depends on the person who ends up buying either one. This is the same for the cabin layout.

For me personally, I prefer the "Poker Run" cabin, I have no intention of spending a night on the boat plus I like the canopy boats, so as stated, it is subjective.

I too feel the 36OL and 37AT is like comparing a ZL1 Camaro (AT) to the Z06 Corvette (OL), both have great performance, styling and layout, but it is two totally different ways they are going to perform and the ride/feel behind the wheel, or seat of your pants.

Both are great brands and boats, either one would make any owner feel proud to say, yea, that is my boat!

And just a side note: Anyone who thinks the Baja cant hold Its own, has never been on one in rough water. I would always be with the front runners when the water got rough in my 40, and my passengers were comfortable. The straight bottoms were never faster than the steps, but they took the rough stable and solid.

you guys are both right...I know that Kevin has more knowledge about boats that I likely ever will. I am basing my opinion on the smaller Bajas. The biggest one that I've been on is a 272 so Im comparing that to my 28. I dont know alot about the bigger ones..33, 36, 40.. so my comment may be a little off base. Everyone has different needs and wants in boats so therefore we are lucky to have so many different builders and options. Personally, I will never be able to afford an new one of either brand so I dont have a dog in the fight. lol. I like the older OL..37 and 42 legacy and the AT lines. For me the cabin is VERY important because I have a family. Not a ton of room on the 28 but likely the most for its size and thats what I can afford at this time.

Your right its awesome that we have so many choices and I look forward to even more options in the up coming years!

Orange quatro:
The 33 Baja and 35/36 Baja do NOT run the same speeds as 33 and 37 DDC ATs. The figures tossed around above are off. Perhaps you are confusing the older 32 AT and 37 AT straight bottom boats. But then again, that was 15 years ago.

DreJustice:
I heard the same rumor. I hope that cat doesn't show his face though. I wouldn't want him to be confused with a Baja wannabe.

And all this jostling back and forth about sales numbers year over year.
How many people on OSO have actually bought a brand spanking new boat over $100K? It's a very small crowd. I'd venture to say less than 15% of OSO members.

The comments on this site lately remind me of YouTube trolls.

Yes AT's are a custom build and I don't want to take anything away from that aspect of the boats, but Baja's are a nice fit and finish boat also. All I'm saying is that its almost the same performance as a Baja and there is nothing wrong with that.

A comparable size Baja does not run even close to 75 with 496's. A 38 Special with 502mpi's runs about 62-63 mph and a 36 Outlaw with 500's runs about 71-72.
A 37 AT with with 500's runs 81-84 and with 525's runs 84-90mph depending on amenties and load.

By comparing an AT to a Baja, you have demonstrated your total lack of knowledge about both.

Your right, The 36 outlaw with 490 HP did 81 on the Powerboat test and the 37 AT with 470 HP did 80.6 according to Powerboat testing. So given the 40 additional hp the AT is faster by aprox. 3-4 mph. What was I thinking trying to compare these two boats. So yea its a regular rocket by comparison. Keep drinking the Kool Aid from your Cult leader.

A 37 with 500's has run 90 when dialed in.

I'm not saying that didn't happen, but that's far from a typical number for these boats. With 525's (which make about 50+ hp more per side), most normally well equipped 37's run mid to high 80's for real world numbers and a hair over 80 with the 500 EFI's.
