Here's the race boat running Key West with a broken drive.
Ya think the bottom design works? |

I'm sorry. It was implied, at least I believe, that I use polyester resin and plywood coupled with Autometer gauges.
AT was using full urethane stringers and transom before just about everybody. We have never used anything less that Hydrex pure vinylester resin and high density Divinycell coring and vacuum bagged. Never a hull failure, Ever. As far as Autometer gauges? We combine some Livorsi analog gauges with digital screens as well. I like it. I like to be able to see a red needle when I am running on my tachs, OP and temp gauges. But that is just me. I really have no use for a GPS. The new 33 that will be at the Miami Show in 2 weeks will have 2 new Garmin 8210 GPSs with a 7" Vessel View full color Mercury display. These will be tied into a the new Fusion audio head unit which has bluetooth. Also the boat is equipped with a Nighthawk thermal night vision camera. So we can watch a DVD on the passenger dash at the same time stream Netflix on the driver's screen and see in the dark on the 7" Vessel view. But just in case I want to know what the heck is going on in the back we are putting in 2 oil pressure and 2 water temperature, good ol' Livorsi gauges to make it idiot-proof. Not sure if the gauges take it out of the high-tech arena. If so my bad.....They were all out of Autometers. The new AT 37 Xcess will be on the finger pier in the Mercury display right next to the 36 Outerlimits. You can compare them side by side yourself. I will have a cold Miller Lite in my hand right about 5:00. And if I have to take a leak I will simply stand up in the enclosed head and use an electric toilet. Oh, the comforts of home..... I love my beer. Oh yeah, and Active Thunder is still in business after two decades with the same guy writing the checks. Unlike Baja, Fountain, Donzi, Sonic, Powerplay, Black Thunder, Apache, Powerquest, Wellcraft, etc. Now I am simply selling my brand. , |
Of all the OL's and AT's that I've ridden on, I would rather have an AT. The OL may be faster but I'd rather be in the AT if the conditions got heavy. ;-)
I guess it all co.es down to what's important to you and this is why I said the comparison is bad because they don't really compare. |

These pictures are comforting...as a young single guy I kinda fear the whole wife/kids thing somewhat because I think it could be the end of boating, but after seeing all these pics, apparently not!
Mind you, most of the people saying that because their wives made them get a cruiser and they were bitter. My kids have been boating with us since they were 6 months old and we only waited that long because doctors dont recommend putting suntan lotion on infants. Now I have two Apache's and the kids love them both. Saturday and Sunday mornings I usually ask them which boat they want to cruise on that day. It is what you make of it! |

I don't think Mike is throwing you or your boats under the buss. He is simply selling his brand. I thought that was sales 101. Talk about what is different with your brand. I think your boats are fine. I boat with friends that have AT's. I am just always waiting for them. I think a better comparison to AT is Baja.
I thought we were talking Active Thunder vs. OutLaw this whole time! |
Besides the DDC hull which puts AT in a league of it's own, the one thing that a AT owner has told me personally that has stuck with me was...
"When all my the guys here with 38 Cigs look at the ocean waves and say f**k that, I know it's time to go out and play." AJ - 33AT Edit: the only thing I don't like about ATs is that a lot have the side-by-side loveseat up front which I hate in my current boat. |

I have looked at tens of thousands of boating pictures since 1994. This is one of my favorites—it could actually be my favorite.
Because this is how new people are brought into the go-fast boat world. I remember how excited I used to get when we would go visit my grandparents in Naples. Dad would trailer our 30 Velocity down from OH and even though it was docked right behind the condo, my favorite nights were when he agreed to sleep on the boat. Some great memories. |
