This has finally pulled me out of my cave and wound me up!..What the hell was the APBA thinking???? The "Almost a Super Vee Light..but not exactly World record"...

This is nothing more than a prostitution of the most venerable and respected racing body in the World. Special Events records are for boats that do not fit into another racing category, class, or division. Either OPA is APBA's Offshore arm...or it's not...It is really that simple. If APBA has an Offshore Division than this sham should be eliminated from the record books...not asterisked...not "special evented"...not anything. This is shameful and Mark Wheeler et al should be taken to task....by anyone with integrity involved in the sport of boat racing. I have pushed for decades to have the sport unify under the APBA/UIM banner for all of the reasons listed earlier by Ron...To sanction this phony "record" covers the APBA brand in a very smelly mud and devalues it at the very core of its charter. THe sport is where it is because various boat racing "leaders" over time have gotten "jelly legged" at key moments in the sport's history where a simple "no" would have prevented years of conflict and "gaming the system".

Somebody better wake up and smell the av gas.

What if we just re title this thread "V bottom goes really Fc'n Fast! Faster than that other V bottom boat did a decade ago!" Aside from a tiny handful of you, no one else on the planet earth does, or should, care about the ENTIRE contents of this thread. Congrats to the people that made it go fast. The rest of you are making yourselves look really silly.

Why wasn't it a sham when Reggie held special event kilo record attempts 10 years ago with boats that didn't have to pass any technical inspections either, but still somehow were "sanctioned" to set a World's Fastest V-bottom record?

Good point......This has been going on for decades....However, the term "Unlimited" denotes no restrictions...and as such allows a level, if unrestricted, playing field. Super Vee Light on the other hand......

10 years ago was an open invitation event with multiple sactioning bodies. And yes the unlimited means unlimited . Much different than super vee light!

I have no dog in this hunt, but I have set a couple records in my day (NHRA stuff), and I can tell you ANY record worth breaking takes hard work, determination, and skill. And dollars, of course.
What I would also say is that if I competed in the same classification as a "record holder" that didn't have to run under the same rules as I did, I would be PISSED also! If that Were the case the records would have been completely meaningless, as this one is (not the unlimited 43 record, just to be clear).
Additionally, after reading these 4 pages it is perfectly clear why the general public no longer cares about offshore racing in general, regardless of the acronyms.
That said, carry on into oblivion wondering all the while where all the fans went.

All of the politics in this sport are killing it faster than you can blink.

First to T2X, BRAVO Well said.
To FlnBrian, Either you have never raced and won an honest trophey, or you are one who thinks, "it ain't cheatin if you can't get caught"
To Outerlimits, Beautiful boats. You build some of the best boats in the world. . It's too bad your name now has this stain attached.
